George Zimmerman’s Mom Speaks Out in First TV Interview: My Son Is ‘Not Racist’

George Zimmermans Mom Blasts Media in First TV Interview with Piers Morgan

In a rare television interview, the mother of George Zimmerman appeared on CNN with Piers Morgan on Monday night to speak out about her son and slain teen Trayvon Martin for the first time. Her face was disguised for the interview.

Gladys Zimmerman told Morgan the media has played a huge role in the shooting. By portraying her son in a negative way, she explained, the media has inaccurately shaped people’s perception of him.

When asked what has bothered her the most regarding the allegations made against George Zimmerman, Gladys said “that he was called racist.” She said there were plenty of people who “didn’t bother to come up front and say no he’s not racist.”

Gladys told the story about her son helping a homeless African-American man who was severely beaten. No one came to the man’s defense except for Zimmerman, she said. She also explained that he made fliers and distributed them to get the community together to bring the incident before a city council meeting in 2011.

Morgan told Gladys that her son may not be racist, but there is a possibility that Zimmerman “racially profiled” Martin because he is a “young black” kid. The mother just shook her head in disagreement.

Gladys also recounted how she felt when she had first learned that her son had killed Martin, the moment she knew her life would never be the same. She said it felt like a “nightmare.”

“It felt like I couldn’t believe what had happened. I felt that the world had turned upside down,” she added.

Morgan asked if she had considered that her son may spend 25 or 30 years behind bars if he is convicted by a court of law.

“I believe in the judicial system,” Gladys said. “I believe from the beginning that he is innocent…there is justice in America and I believe in justice.”

“I’m deeply sorry for what had happened, it is a tremendous tragedy for both families,” she concluded.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Martin last February in a gated community in Sanford, Fla. He is pleading not guilty, saying he shot Martin in self-defense.

  Trayvon Martin was a thug, and his behavior in his past shows he was a thief, assaulted a bus driver, and was a druggie. Can’t deny facts, and it seems pretty obvious that Trayvon attacks Zimmerman and not the other way around. I’m waiting for the ‘plea deal’s’ to appear, they have nothing to prosecute for that the jury won’t be offended by, Zimmerman acted as a concerned citizen, he didn’t provoke TM to attack him or to be violent, he has the right to defend himself.
I look at the Casey Anthony case, the media MADE UP STUFF to vilify her and boost ratings, the jury, only faced with actual and real facts found her not guilty, I really don’t see how this will end differently and the DA has to know it going in. I hope GZ doesn’t accept a plea deal.

  They actually have a solid case against him. He racially profiled TM, hunted him down loaded his gun @ 2:42 on the NEN call. GZ being armed put himself in a situation to where he put his life and TM life in at risk. Not to mention putting other citizens in danger.
  He knew the laws and regulations on – fire arm safety; however, still put himself in danger. Knowing he had a gun pulling it and shooting TM without justification and or significant injuries,

It is a tragedy, but if Trayvon had not jumped on GZ, he would be alive today. Which is more at fault, the one doing the provoking or the one provoked? Both, to some degree. To some degree you know when you are being a jerk and unnecessarily upsetting someone, and reciprocally to some degree you know when you are getting angry toward someone because of your own guilt.

But the person getting pounded has a right to defend him or herself. Different people have different options. Another man might have been able to talk to Trayvon in a way that did not upset him. Another man might have had the option of over-powering Trayvon by virtue of his own athleticism and fighting ability. Another man might have been killed by Trayvon.

Sorry for your death, Trayvon, but justice and fairness do not have to die too.

The problem is the Stand Your Ground Law. Based on that law, Zimmerman had every right to shoot Trayvon. The law should be put on trial.

SYG doesn’t apply here because Z couldn’t retreat. 776.012, Use of force in defense of person, is the applicable law, that applies to all self defense cases in FL.

776.012 Use of force in defense of person.—A person is justified in using force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force. However, a person is justified in the use of deadly force and does not have a duty to retreat if:
(1) He or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony; or

I didn’t see where Piers mentioned why she had to hide her identity. Perhaps the racist yelling that “cracka motha f#@&*er needs to pay” or Splke Lee posting the supposed address of his family , or better yet, the new black panthers putting a bounty on Zimmermans head, might have had something to do with it?

Zimmerman should be walking free, but instead, to coddle the black community, they have to play this circus out in front of all the “victims”. My advise, next time you want to “keep it real” and start beating on someone, here in Florida, we carry.

  Got news for you. 911 operators are not the law, and they do not give legal orders, nor do you have to listen to them. Zimm cannot get prosecuted for not listening to the 911 operator.
  
  My wife once had a man trying to kick down our door (I was away working). She called 911, the operator told her (while the man was kicking the door) that if she has a gun to put it down. That was as stupid of a comment as I have ever heard, and it was not law binding.
  
  Zimm’s neighborhood was getting robbed on a regular basis (by black males). It was the cops that suggested that Zimm arm himself after a pit bull incident. Zimm was the neighborhood watch, and it was completely in his legal right to check out and see why a suspicious looking person in hooded sweatshirt was out roaming around the neighborhood in the middle of the night.
  
  Martin had a previous encounter with authorities, where he possessed burglary tools, and jewelry not belonging to him. He was also found to have THC in his system.
  
  Martin attacked Zimm. Zimm was on the ground, getting his head bashed into the concrete.

Here is my take on racism in TODAY’s culture – The definition of racism has dramatically changed in the last 10 years. It used to be that you hated all of one certain race. Being a racist meant that you thought you were Superior to ALL races that weren’t your own. It is now being used as loosely as calling, some one you don’t agree, with a nazi. Recently in the last few years many blacks, as well as some other races, use racism is a weapon. Without it they don’t have power. They shove the “n” word in our face, but then say we cant say it. If we use the “n” word or use any word they happen not to like (but they can use it…) in any context AT ALL – we are labeled a racist. My kids hear the “N” word in songs – that are marketed by black producers and record companies to blacks and whites!!! but if my kid sings the lyrics of the songs that they purchased…they are a racist!! Insane??!! If a white man doesn’t vote for Obama…they are a racist. This is getting out of control. I would go as far to say that if you could snap your fingers and all racism would go away, there would be a huge part of people who would not want that to happen. It’s too much power they would have to let go. Then you have Obama. The biggest race baiter there is. He has no intention of uniting all races – or calling out folks who try to separate people. We are going down hill. Really sad times.

A large chunk of noncitizens belongs to Latino group. Although Latinos pretend to support Obama by attending his rallies, in the heart of their hearts they support Romney and, according to unofficial survey, they will vote for Romney. The reason for this determined support to Romney is the Zimmerman episode. According to state law, a watcher will not be punished for carrying out his official duty. But Obama made a racial comment for the death of Martin by saying he is ‘My Son.’ Although many white boys and girls were shot to death on campuses, Obama never called them ‘My sons,’ and ‘My daughters.’ Obama’s personal intervention in Martin’s case led to the arrest of Zimmerman. Zimmerman has now become a hero of the Latinos. They know Romney will support them. But the arrest of Zimmerman has given the Latinos an opportunity to wreak vengeance on Obama

Zimmerman did his duty as a watcher. State law will not punish a watcher for performing his dutues. But Obama ignited the routine event by making a racist comment by saying Martin is ‘my son.’ When young boys and girls were shot on different occasions on campuses, Obama did not refer to them as ‘my sons,’ and ‘my daughters.’ Only after Obama’s personal interest in this case federal agencies and FBI intervened and arrested Zimmerman. But now Zimmerman has become a hero of the Latinos. This election will give an opportunity for the Latinos to wreak vengeance on Obama.

of course the media has, thats what they do. maybe law suits ought to be filed against the media for false information. or law suits against spike lee, and roseanne barr for the wrong addresses, or the abuse people have had to endure because of thier racism against your son. just a thought, maybe even one against the erik holder group for not silencing the new black panthers who put a bounty on your son. its really strange that this could all go on and no one can stop it.

He just shot a black kid to save his own life and the powers that be in this racist country decided that if everyone shot a black kid to save themselves from being attacked and/or killed…..millions of black kids would perish and crime would fall to a minimum. Then all of the trash judges, lawyers, and some crooked cops, would be out of jobs. Drug use would dry up and all kind of payoffs would too. Now..we can’t have any of that,….can we?
