President Obama Assures Audience Green Energy Is Not a ‘Socialist Plot’

President Obama Promises that Green Energy Standards are Not a Socialist Plot

(AP)

At a $25,000-a-plate fundraiser in Los Angeles Sunday evening, President Barack Obama assured donors that his administration’s pricey and oftentimes risky involvement in the “green” energy is not part of a “socialist plot,” The Hill reports.

“On energy, I’m big on oil and gas, and developing clean coal technology, but I also believe that if we’re ever going to have control of our energy future, then we’ve got to invest in solar and wind and biofuels, and that it does make sense for us to double our fuel-efficiency standards on cars,” the president told an audience that included noted actor George Clooney.

“And that’s not a socialist plot for us to reduce our energy usage,” the president said to laughter, according to the transcript. “It’s the smart thing to do. It’s right for our national energy. It’s right for our economy. It’s right for the environment. [Romney] disagrees.”

Although the president’s remarks weren’t entirely specific, he was probably referring to the Romney campaign’s response to “new auto mileage rules for model years 2017-2025 that will ultimately require automakers to build cars and light trucks with a fleet-wide average of 54.5 miles-per-gallon,” The Hill notes.

The Romney campaign called these new rules “extreme,” and claimed they will “limit the choices available to American families.”

But there’s something else that should be noted: President Obama’s remarks to supporters in L.A. seem to imply Romney is anti-alternative energy. This isn’t entirely accurate.

Indeed, based on the energy plan put out by the Romney campaign, it would be more accurate to say the Romney campaign simply disagrees with how President Obama has approached it.

“[Romney] will allow the wind credit to expire, end the stimulus boondoggles, and create a level playing field on which all sources of energy can compete on their merits. Wind energy will thrive wherever it is economically competitive, and wherever private sector competitors with far more experience than the president believe the investment will produce results,” said Romney spokesman Shawn McCoy.

Based on how investments in companies such as Solyndra, Fisker, and Abound Solar have turned out, perhaps the Romney approach isn’t such a bad idea.

“The goal of my energy policy is straightforward: guarantee America the most affordable and reliable supply in the world,” Romney’s platform said.

“In place of real energy, Obama has focused on an imaginary world where government-subsidized windmills and solar panels could power the economy. This vision has failed … as president, I will unleash American innovation and productivity to make full use of our natural resources,” the platform adds.

It’s all about monetary velocity. If the money slows down, then the music stops. Gotta keep it moving so that they can kick the can down the road. Otherwise, Obama is very likely to be in charge of the country when the economy collapses?

What would generate more monetary velocity than requiring the power network to completely reinvent itself and rebuild a large portion of its infrastructure?

Green energy doesn’t have to be a Socialist plot, Obama can dump so much money, $90 billion, into green energy scams he can bankrupt us without needing to call it socialist or whatever. I love the way Romney shredded Obama for the gas subsidies foolishness when Obama has spent 50 years worth of subsidies in just a couple of years. Obama will get destroyed in the next debate because he is an empty suit fool:

It is just plain stupid and impractical to push windmills (that is so 19th century)

To replace the output of a small power generation station – the Commanche River Power Plant would require a swath of windmills 2 miles wide from Nashville to Chattanooga (that is 124 miles)

Now image that across the country to replace all power plants- there would be no realestate open for people or food production or anything else and let;s not even talk about the acreage required to grow crops to burn in our gas tanks as opposed to good old gasoline

President Obama knows that you don’t need as much energy if the economy isn’t growing. Liberals want to take us back to 15th century windmills and 19th century trains. Read more insights at: http://smallcraftadvisorychronicles.blogspot.com/

Green energy is the future, but you don’t cut off our current system without a way to replace it. Throwing money at companies owned by big donors and setting it up so that we (the taxpayers) take it in the rectum is not a solution, it’s a way to pay off his buddies. It’s the Chicago Way.

Look it’s only coincidental that all the failing green energy companies are hussains supporters that somehow are not losing any of their money.
Only the American people can do that! Lose money that is, under his watch (his words) the cost of energy WILL necessarily go up!

If the whole green movement is not a Socialist plot, then explain why Mikhail Gorbachev is the “Founding President of Green Cross International, which he established in 1993 in response to the 1992 Rio Earth Summit call to create a Red Cross for the environment” (http://www.gcint.org/board/mikhail-gorbachev).

After the fall of the Soviet Union, Communists and Socialists began hiding behind the “green” label, using the environment as their new wedge issue to regain power. Al Gore was very comfortable among these fellow travelers.

“Green Energy” is a myth. The socialist part is forcing the cost of other sources of energy through the rough via unelected divisions of government, such as the EPA, allowing them to drive policy while at the same time stealing from tax coffers to prop up phony companies supposedly making the mythical technology.

“Green Energy” isn’t a myth. It can be achieveable. Not by being forced down our throats by a socialist governent, but by the free market, using the power of free thinking, inventive Americans, to create simple, cost effective equpment.

Americans are the most inventive people in the world. Put out a challenge: Invent a low cost, efficient green energy generation system.

What Obama doesn’t understand is that Green Energy maybe is a good thing but the way he is going about shoving down our throat is what people get angry about. Look at Spain It put it’s energy in the toilet.

I wonder what his new house is going to be powered by.

Using our tax money to float companies is what is wrong. Wasting our money is what is wrong. And before I get comments that the coal/electric/gas companies get subsidized .. I am opposed to that too.

Green energy is great on paper, just not in the realworld. Solar is severely inefficient and too costly. Wind is turning out to be problematic on safety, health and cost of maintenance. Hydrogen is the only viable future energy but its still about 15-20 years out from being small, efficient and cost effective, so while that technology is evolved, we should bring more natural gas online and supplant gasoline in all private vehicles, for $1,000 ANY car can have a converter installed with a selector switch to choose from gas/LP/CNG so then by having all private cars and also homes using CNG, then oil can be used for diesel for freight and for airline fuel, making the cost per gallon next to nothing, we could see $1.00 fuel again for the next 20 years until hydrogen comes online, CNG is much cleaner than gasoline, so that will make the greenies happy and we should also look to build 3rd gen nuclear plants to replace and add to our nuclear power needs. If we do more nuclear for electricity then we could export and sell our coal and make money from that too, all ways to pay down the debt. This is a REAL path to energy independence and low cost fuel for people and business.

Very well said! I have been listening to T. Boone Pickins for quite some time and liquid natural gas stations and vehicles are the way to go. All of your other energy ideas are right on the money. We need a 20 year energy plan that makes use of our resources and keeps us secure and independent as a Nation. 0 only wants to by environmental votes, he’s transparent alright. If people understood the amount of energy required to charge an electric car to go the same distances of a gas-powered vehicle they would give up green energy in a second.
