What New Product Did Apple Just Order 10 Million of in Prep for Holiday Season?

It seems the moment one Apple rumor is put to rest a new one quickly fills the void. This latest rumor is of a mini tablet that the company appears to be putting a large amount of faith into.
The iPad mini, as it is being called, is like many a rumored Apple product in that it has not been formally announced. But the Wall Street Journal is reporting the company has ordered 10 million of them ahead of the holiday season. WSJ notes suppliers in Asia saying this is twice the number of orders placed by Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
This, WSJ writes, shows Apple’s confidence in high demand for the still rumored product.
Here’s what WSJ reports analysts saying of the iPad mini:
βIt makes sense for market leader Apple to extend its dominance in tablets with a smaller tablet,βsaid Capital Securities analyst Diana Wu.
[...]
βiPad mini will be a big hit if Apple prices it below $300,β said RBS analyst Wanli Wang.
WSJ sources speculate the mini would be aΒ 7.85-inch tablet — the current iPad is 9.5 inches long.Β AllThingsD has more from an expertΒ regarding the device:
Tokepa analyst Brian White, whoβs been travelling around Taipei talking to component suppliers, says the mini β or whatever Apple chooses to call it β may even be slicker than the new iPad.
βApple did not skimp on the aesthetics of the much anticipated βiPad Mini,ββ White says. βIn fact, we believe the βiPad Miniβ could outshine the new iPad in terms of how the device feels in a consumerβs hands.β
Watch this report regarding the iPad mini from International Business Times:
When will new Apple device actually be announced? Fortune reported a source sayingΒ invites would go out for this week for a mid-October announcement and a November launch date.
CNET recently reported that even with the iPad mini not even being an officially announced device yet, accessories for it are already “coming soon.” A $24.99 screen protector by Zagg is one of them.
In August, Apple announced its long-awaited iPhone 5. Within only a few days after its launch, Apple sold 5 million of the device.

Posted on October 8, 2012 at 6:27pmI agree. Having delt with Steve Jobs and his companies, I found that Apple was “ethicless” in terms of how they treat people. And btw like many in the silicon valley were outspokenly anti-Christian… often to the extent of being crude+insulting. Altho’ sometimes forced to use Apple products at work, I buy my tablets from friendlier sources. :-)

Posted on October 8, 2012 at 2:46pmIf Apple would just price their iPads to match the prices of other tablets, they wouldn’t have to come out with a cheaper model. Their iPads are already more expensive, yet offer less in the way of extra ports, such as a mini-HDMI, or USB ports. It’s a reall PIA to share files on an iPad, as you have o email them to yourself, or use a dropbox or downlad app. You have to o everything wirelessly with sn iPad, that you could just plug in a USB drive on an Android tablet. I only bought an iPad2 after it was priced at $359, competitive to other tablets. I don’t care much for Android, but Apple is way over-priced and you cannot extend the memory or plug in any memory into any iPad. Apple is so controlling of it’s devices that I can’t understsnd why they sell so many units.

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 10:51amI just purchased my first IPad and I love it. It does more than I will ever need and thought the price was high (got the 64 gb with WI FI) I really feel it is worth every penny. I am traveling to Israel later this year and will be taking it with me.

Posted on October 8, 2012 at 2:09pmMaybe that’s why the FoxConn workers rioted in China. 10m devices before the “Holiday” shopping season? That could mean a lot of overtime and they have enough trouble with “Quality Control” at the average rate of production who will define the quality coming from this increase of production.
