Chris Matthews Slams Obama Campaign’s Big Bird Attack Ad: ‘This, I Think, Is Mickey Mouse’
It is no secret that MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is a supporter of President Barack Obama. In fact, the host even admitted that he is “known as an Obama supporter” on his show last week — and that’s why it’s newsworthy anytime Matthews criticizes the president, which is rare.
On Tuesday, Matthews hosted a panel to discuss the Obama campaign’s new “Big Bird” attack ad that criticizes GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s pledge to cut funding for PBS made during last week’s presidential debate.
“You would think the Obama campaign would want to start looking forward toward the V.P. debate this week and the two remaining presidential debates. Today, the Obama camp released this ad, again going back to Romney’s line in the debate about Big Bird,” Matthews said.
“This, I think, is Mickey Mouse,” he added before playing the ad.
The attack ad mocks Romney by sarcastically claiming the Republican is willing to go after America’s real enemies, meaning Big Bird. Even Matthews found the attack childish and ineffective.
“Please god just for a minute… be independent minded and answer this question: Is that the right way to go in this crucial last month to be focusing on Big Bird?” Matthews asked Democratic strategist Bob Shrum.
“No, it’s not,” Shrum replied. “We should be talking about who is going to save Medicare not who is going to save Big Bird.”
“One of the few times I will say Ditto,” former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said.
While Matthews admitted “there is a way through really good sarcasm to make fun of the other side,” he said the Obama campaign was not successful with the Big Bird attack.

No, Chris, Mickey Mouse is Disney / ABC, and you’re NBC.
Big Bird is PBS, try to keep them separate.

What no sense of humor ?
The War on Puppets
is about the only card your Boy-King hasn’t played, until NOW,
The Big Turd is ganging up with Big Bird
to bully Romney & America into submission-
damn, if we dare to withhold OUR taxpayers money.
Wah, Wah,
just like Solyndra-
it’s only a mere pittance,
they whine, it’s only a few hundred million dollars…no big deal !
Here’s the DEAL-
America needs to CUT the fat, just as Romney said.
PBS, the Puppet Blubber Society should graciously withdraw
their request for federal handout….OUR handout.
If they were smart, they would do it, in a Sesame Street minute.
Lord knows, maybe by taking that action
& developing a softer, less begging & manipulative stance,
they’d find a friendlier response from potential donors.
If this whole ordeal doesn’t prove what an incompetent boob,
this prez is, then NOTHING will.
Can you imagine what Putin, Iran & China are thinking ?
They’re laughing their butts off.
Sad to say,
Big Bird & Elmo would probably be tougher on our radical enemies,
than the bowing twinkle-toes, we have in office now.
Jerk Matthews has been asleep at the wheel-
all the sudden, it takes a few feathers & fuzz
to get him to snap out of it.
The DNC should just send Jill Biden
to replace Bazooka Joe-
she’s easier-on-the-eyes & saves us from listening to that
political lumberjack husband of hers with the petrified face.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 4:06amSomething about this makes me uneasy. Since the beginning of his presidency he seems to be totally assured of his re-election. Openly bullying everyone with Obamacare, regulations, executive orders, trying to block states from cleaning out their voter registration lists…..
As for foreign policy–why not meet with Middle Eastern leaders?
Israel’s enemies are giddy with their sharia successes. They can taste the power they have gained under Obama’s presidency. My intuition is that our president could not risk being seen with one of these giddy Arab leaders being all chummy just before the elections.
And the brazen lies about Libya. Here I fear the lying has passed a red line– that is, they are now lying (about a video’s responsibility, about their cover-up) knowing full well much of the public KNOWS they are lying. Calculated lies, worthy of dictators.
Now this ridiculous waste of campaign donations.
Can’t help but feel he is thumbing his nose at the people as a whole,
somehow assured his own re-election….

In recent years, the Medicaid rolls have been increasing rapidly. Seniors are going to be paying more on their Part D premiums; upwards of $6,000 more per year. Get ready for a crap sandwich smothered in ketchup from Biden. Somehow, he will try to convey that Republicans want to gut Medicare.

Big Bird is pure distraction. The obama regime have taken us beyond stupid – we are now dangerously distracted as the lawless obama regime struggles to survive as America wakes up to the ugly truth over the next four weeks…
-Terrorist killing of US Ambassador along with 3 other Americans on 9/11 with obama regime lying to American Public
-Gas prices hit new high
-Mid-East about ready to go nuclear with Iran v. Israel
-US Embassies flying Al Qaeda flags on 9/11
-America $16 Trillion in the hole with over $1 trillion deficit EVERY year under obama
-Record Food Stamp recipients
-U6 at over 14%
-Record run of U3 over 8%
-Growth under 2%
-Family net worth down
-Family income down
-Inexpensive energy available but vilified and denied
-“green” energy costing taxpayers millions only to predictably fail
-socialized medicine with death panels
-PLUS obama scandal after obama scandal to include a dead American law enforcement officer as well as Mexicans that leads to executive privilege on a matter “holder and obama had nothing to do with”
AND the list goes on and on…

To answer your Reagan question….Yes, i am pretty sure i would. I was not around in his hay-day but from what i understand he was fighting the establishment the entire time with a pro-freedom message. Once he got power he started to turn to the dark side just like other patriots like Thomas Jefferson. But we should at least have people who turn into deuches AFTER they become president, RIGHT???
Ive said this many times – i am not an ideologue. I would definitely have voted for a herman cain/bachmann and probably even a perry/santorum. Romney crosses a progressive line that i cannot stand for. And in regards to his business background – i do not see it as a benefit for reasons we can talk about some other time

I’m disappointed. I thought you knew history!
Washington himself refused power. Between the time the Declaration was written and the Bill of Rights were adopted, many wanted to form a monarchy, or at least have Washington become a permanent president (no difference). He was clear that was not the intention of the sacrifices made and to what the country would ultimately evolve if he he did not restrict his power. Granted, it was long ago and that example is long since forgotten and often never used as the example. Sorry to chime in on your discussion but Washington ultimately left the power in the hands of the people, and we’ve failed miserably.
