Father of Fallen Marine Angry Over President Obama’s ‘Disrespectful’ Condolence Letter: ‘Where Is the Honor?’
The father of a fallen U.S. Marine is angry about a “disrespectful” and impersonal condolence letter from President Barack Obama.
Tom Logan told KPRC that the letter was “impersonal” and practically just a form letter. Further, KPRC discovered an additional condolence letter from Obama that is practically identical to the one sent to Tom Logan.
(To read the letters, scroll down)
“It opened up a wound in our heart you can’t fix. You can’t send another letter. You can’t make it right,” the father said.
Logan’s son, USMC Cpl. Joseph D. Logan was killed on Jan. 19, 2012 when the helicopter he and five other men were riding in crashed. He was only 22-years-old.
Tom Logan says his son deserves more respect, as do other fallen heroes in the military. He believes Obama did little more than sign his name to the note.
“He would have been more mad about this than I am,” Tom Logan added.
Local 2 Investigates examined two other letters sent by Obama to families of soldiers killed in action. The one-page typed condolence letters were identical other than names, ranks and service branches.
There is no standard or written protocol that we could find dealing with presidential condolence letters.
“Different presidents have approached the task in ways that are unique with their personalities and their priorities,” University of Houston Professor and Historian Nancy Beck Young said.
Young examined the letter written to Tom Logan, which arrived by UPS truck four months after his son’s death.
“I would agree, this is a personal sacrifice and an impersonal condolence,” Young said.
The University of Houston professor also compared Obama’s condolence letters to the ones sent by former President George W. Bush. Young said Bush appeared to write more personal letters, sometimes even hand-written.
“I think it’s an indication of how of how the office of the presidency works in the early 21st century,” Young told KPRC.
That is unacceptable to Tom Logan and says that should never be the way it is.
“Where are the representatives of our government? Where is the honor and the respect that all of these soldiers deserve?” Logan asked.
The White House has not responded to KPRC’s three requests for comment. The White House faced harsh criticism earlier this year when it was accused of using an “auto-pen” to sign condolence letters to the families of fallen Navy SEALs. The Obama administration has denied the accusations.
Here’s one of the president’s condolence letters via KPRC:
And here’s a different letter sent by the president to the family of another fallen soldier:
Note: This story has been updated to correct that Logan is a fallen Marine.

This has absolutely nothing to do with how the presidency works in the 21st century. It has everything to do with how the presidency works with a filthy, anti-American Marxist cockroach as president. Comrade Chairman Obama’s disdain for the military is painfully obvious. Our narcissistic Sociopath president only cares about his miserable backside and his totalitarian ideology, not our troops or the American people.

True, we don’t have the volume of casualties we had during WWII… I guess you have to look at the soul of the individual, Obama would rather play basketball where as George Bush and other Presidents took their responsibilities to the troops more personally. As for this letter-
If the commander-in-chief orders men to put their lives on the line, then the very least you can do when they make the ultimate sacrifice is to take a few minutes to reflect on who that person was, how and why they died and acknowledge this sacrifice with a sincere letter to the family.
If writing a personalized letter is too much of a sacrifice for the the president to make then he shouldn’t ask our Marines and soldiers to put their lives at risk, fighting his wars.

He told us back in the ’90s again, just how much he loathed the military, and this is the way I return his respect. Maybe one of these days I’ll build a larger den and do what Walt Disney did with his dishonorable discharge. If you get a chance to watch the opening of his old show you will notice a framed certificate hanging behind and just above his left shoulder. Its upside down, and remained there through all of the years his show remained on. I’ve yet to learn why he was discharged.

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 5:03pmWell, George Bush was a true gentleman, and a true patriot…He wrote many letters by hand to the families of fallen soldiers…But in all FAIRNESS, there were more military deaths under OBAMA than under President Bush, so OBVIOUSLY it was less of a burden on President Bush to personally respond to the families via a handwritten letter…

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 5:15pmFDR, LBJ, GHW, and GWB didn’t party the way this one does. If they did, it was formal and quiet out of respect for the people in uniform fighting a world away. This pos would rather be partying with Beyonce and being interviewed by someone, anyone rather than realizing and putting the REAL work in as President. Hell, he thought he’d have the debate handed to him on a silver platter by Jim Lehrer. No real work or prep needed. These families deserve better. Barry doesn’t memorize names or want to know about the fallen men and women in uniform, unless he’s using them as an example in a state of the union speech or on the campaign trail. What a cold, slimy SOB we have sitting in the WH.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 5:28amAnd in all fairness, Barack cannot read or write. He could copy them by hand, though. Thing is, his speechwriters are worn out from having to come up with every single word that moron says in public. “Say AH, dorkhead.” “AH.” Just one night on his own, and Parrotman falls apart. Honestly, libs, your affirmative action failure should be flipping burgers somewhere.

Stone Cold Truth
Posted on October 9, 2012 at 5:03pmObama’s too busy campaigning and fundraising to write personal letters. He’s got time to sign a glammer head shot photo of himself though if you don’t mind donating money.

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 5:01pmWe do not have a real man in the Presidency. We don’t have a leader. We have a coldfish who hates his nation and despises our history, our traditions, divides us as a people, and truly resents people in uniform. This letter is not surprising. The SOB doesn’t even know what a Navy corpsman is. The letters are identical and autopen was used. It’s obvious. If they deny, then it’s the TRUTH. The Nobel Peace Prize winner can’t even take a few minutes out of his day to formally hand sign or handwrite a letter or private note to these families who’ve lost their loved ones. So sorry to the families, but this administration doesn’t care about anything or anyone other than getting their “golden boy” elected again.
And was this the second helicopter to go down with the rest of Seal Team Six who “killed” OBL? Two incidents occurred where most of the team that got OBL mysteriously were on board, but were months apart. The article didn’t mention if Cpl. Logan was on board with those involved in the mission. No investigation?? What a surprise.
The thanks of a grateful nation?

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 7:27pmAmazing isn’t it? He can order these young American heroes into harm’s way, but he is unable to pick up a real pen and even sign his form letters. This president is a humiliation to this great country.

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 9:52pmIn Catholicism, there are things that are sacrilegious. This President is absolutely sacrilegious to people of our faith, the manner in which he represents the office, our military men and women, their families, and basically everything he stands for and believes in.

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 4:57pmThis not only shows the total disconnection between the inhabitant of America’s White House with America’s heroes and their families. I wonder which one of his commie-buddies wrote this letter-template. And I also wonder who has been in charge of the Oval Office since his election and in the never-ending presidential campaign this man has held for so many months.

Between all that dying and all that golf, vacations, and campaigning, when does Obama have time for condolence letters? Thank God he has an auto-pen or he would never get anything done!

OMG ’nuff said.

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 9:09pmHey, maybe he needs a break–or a condolences Czar! Do you have any idea how many of those he has to write? Hint: What is it, double or triple in 4 years what George Bush lost in the previous 8? Poor guy (Obama)! Well, he shouldn’t have to be writing too many more of those letters! (I’m sorry to be sarcastic in such close proximity to a family’s grief, but EVERY ONE of those soldiers carries the torch for the rest of us–God bless their souls! Our ‘commander-in-chief’, on the other hand, is just another cheap suit, running around the World tilting at windmills, like a black Don Quixote–sorry, again, but HE plays the race-card, so that gives me the right to toss it back in his face! What a maroon!)

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 1:28amI’m just putting this question out there because I obviously don’t know the answer: When someone does an auto pen signature, do they do multiple so it’s not always looking the same? Wonder if they do, and when the letters print, the computer rolls different signatures so they’re not “exactly” alike? The reason I ask is I looked that those signatures above and the two are different. I mean, I just wouldn’t put it past them to do such a thing. Gods speed to all our fallen soldiers and the ones still fighting. R/R 2012
