Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney joined Wolf Blitzer on CNN Tuesday to provide some specifics about his plan to reform the U.S. tax code — more specifically, which deductions and loopholes he would close and how he would recover the loss in revenue that comes with cutting taxes. However, he first vowed to stand by Israel as president, no matter what happens.
Addressing Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Romney said he is committed to stopping the radical regime from developing a nuclear warhead.
“There’s no daylight between the United States and Israel,” he said. “We’re both absolutely committed to preventing Iran from having a nuclear weapon. My own test is Iran should not have the capability of producing a nuclear weapon… I can’t speak for the president in this regard.”
The GOP nominee also said he would have Israel’s back both at the U.N and “militarily.” He said Israel attacking Iran would not surprise him if he were president.
Blitzer then pressed Romney about his plan to reform the tax code.
“I’ve made it pretty clear that my principles are; number one, simplify the code. Number two, create incentives for large business and small businesses to grow. Number three, don’t reduce the burden on high income tax payers. And, number four, remove the burden somewhat for middle income people,” Romney said.
The GOP nominee said he would make up for the dip in tax revenue through “additional growth” and putting a limit on deductions and exemptions, “particularly for people at the high end.”
“What I want to do is make it simpler, fairer – I want to encourage the economy to grow again. It’s pretty clear that the economy is not growing at the rate it should under the president.”
Romney said common deductions like mortgage and charitable contribution deductions would remain in place.
Blitzer asked Romney to be more specific about how he would go about limiting deductions.
“I’m not going to lay out a piece of legislation here because I intend to work together with Democrats and Republicans in Congress, but there are a number of ways you can approach this,” Romney replied. “One would be to have a total cap number – it could be $25,000, $50,00 – and people could put whatever deduction in that cap that they would like. Or, instead, you could take the posture that Bowels-Simpson did, which is going after specific deductions and limiting them in various ways.”
Romney continued: “I don’t want to make the code less progressive. I want high income people to continue to pay the same share they do today.”
The Republican nominee reiterated that it would be necessary to limit tax exemptions and deductions for the rich in order to pay for across-the-board tax cuts.
Blitzer then asked, “Would that add up to the $4.8 or $5 trillion that’s been estimated your tax — your comprehensive tax reduction would cost?”
Romney seemingly avoided the question as he never provided a clear answer. However, he did say that the Obama campaign’s claim that he is calling for a $5 trillion “tax cut” is “completely wrong.”
Romney said cutting taxes for all citizens and corporations will make America a “more attractive place for small business and large business to invest and to add jobs.”
“We’re not seeing the kind of job creation America ought to see following a recession. And we’re not going to see that growth unless we have a tax policy which encourages business — small and large — to make investments and to hire people. That’s why I want to put in place the plan I described,” he added.

We live in a complicated world. You can burrow down in your bunker or learn from the last 10 years.
My takeaways are as follows:
Support your allies.
Stop funding your enemies (middle eastern oil and foreign aid)
You cannot bring people into the 21st century that don’t want to be there. (stop nation building).
Smite your enemies a devastating blow and leave. (stop nation building)
Let the UN fund it’s own miscreants. (let the enemy fund themselves)
That is it. Look out for America first and support those who support us. End of story.

Based on your past comments, you have zero respect for authority, your former leaders (and I’m sure your betters) and anyone who may have had authority over youat one time or another.
Remember, in order to be a good leader you must have at one point in your life been a good follower. Problem with Ron Paul acolytes… they think they were born to lead and everyone else needs to “wake-up” because you haven’t a clue.
Most Ron Paul Vets I’ve read on here I’m pretty sure wound up like Adam Kokesh (Ron Paul mouthpiece, record embellisher and disgraced Vet in the end).

I really don’t see how 5% for Johnson would accomplish anything. The media would just ignore it so the only people who would notice are the ones who are already sick of the two party system. To kill the two party system you need to kill the primary system. What I’d like to see is for a candidate to declare their candidacy for office and, while they put their name in for the primary, they state from the get go that they won’t let the primary results dictate whether or not they run. That’s something the media can’t ignore. Unless Johnson can actually win a state he’ll probably be sidelined quickly.

You really should take your own advice. On a side note, one of those books you cited the other day “proving” Ashkenazi Jews are Khazars, a simple search turned up this:
http://www.khazaria.com/brook.html
Pay special attention to where it says “It also examines the many migrations of the Khazar people into Hungary, Ukraine, and other areas of Europe and their subsequent assimilation, providing the most comprehensive treatment of this complex issue to date. The final chapter enumerates the Jewish communities of eastern Europe which sprung up after the fall of Khazaria and proposes that the Jews from the former Russian Empire are descended from a mixture of Khazar Jews, German Jews, Greek Jews, and Slavs.”
So Jerk, where did the German Greek, and Slavic Jews come from? Why is it that the Yiddish language, which was spoken by Jews in Russia, primarily based on German? How do you explain the fact that Ashkenaz refers to an area in western Germany?
I also noticed that you never actually denied you were an antisemite but simply called me a progressive for using the word (as though its very usage is proof of my larger viewpoint). Isn’t name calling to distract from the issue a progressive tactic?

Israel wants peace and has begged for it dozens of times. But as we all know, peace is a two way street. It is a simple fact that Iran doesn’t want Israel to live in peace. Forget their words, their actions say it all. A nuclear Iran would mean a nuclear Hezbollah. With Hezbollah flying drones into Israel and bombarding the country with rockets, do you think they are likely to permit them to get nukes? And as for us, have you forgotten about the Hezbollah training camps just across our very porous southern border?

Oct. 10, 2012 at 10:43am@Tzion, I don’t even know what to say, man. You know I don’t anyone to die, but you are playing the what if game. I don’t believe we should go to war under that pretense. While I’m an agnostic, I do believe in much of Jesus’ teachings including the Just War theory of Christianity and unfortunately, that doesn’t include a preemptive strike because someone might someday develop a nuclear weapon and maybe give it to someone else. In reality that line of thinking gives us unlimited reason to go to war with anyone. Furthermore, the primary sources I’ve been looking at suggest that as early as 2002, the Israeli government was threatening to use nukes on Iran. What are the Iranians supposed to do with this information? I don’t think either government is doing their people any favors. I think our actions (cutting off negotiations) aren’t doing anyone any favors either. The reality of the situation is the Europeans believe we’re as close to a nuclear war as we have been since the 60′s. I think attacking them to prevent it will only strengthen their impetus of obtaining a weapon, if they haven’t already obtained one from Pakistan, North Korea, or Russia. I mean are you sure that isn’t the case, and they’re just looking for an excuse to let one fly knowing the international community could justify that as “they were merely defending themselves”? There just seems to be too many unknown variables that makes dropping bombs a bad idea because we don’t know the

Essentially your argument boils down to the idea that Israel shouldn’t attack unless attacked first. The problem however is that Iran is already seeking Israel’s annihilation through non-nuclear weapons. Even if their acquiring a nuke wasn’t a concern Israel would eventually be forced to respond to their blatant hostility and aggression. Israel, to its credit, is willing to take a lot of punishment while only using measured responses, but eventually even their patience wears thin.
Prior to the war of 1967, Israel was being continuously harassed by Syrian artillery and terrorists backed by Syria, Egypt, and many others. When Nasser mobilized for war and blockaded an Israeli port, Israel launched a preemptive strike. But even then, Israel limited their attacks to Egypt initially. Hostilities with Jordan began when Jordan attacked Israel and invaded a UN compound.
I can assure you that, if and when Israel attacks Iran, it won’t be because of speculative potential futures, it will be because Israel cannot afford to allow Iran to continue its campaign for Israel’s demise.
Let’s suppose you’re right for a moment and Iran has no intentions of providing Hezbollah with nukes. Does that change the situation? If Iran went nuclear who could stop them from arming Hezbollah? Who would dare try to impose sanctions against them? Who would stop them if they tried to close the Straits? Israel recognizes that the simple possession of nukes is enough to make Iran unstop

Oct. 10, 2012 at 2:04pm@Tzion, Yes, that’s just what I believe. Love your enemy, turn the other cheek, and forgive those that trespass against us. I’m just not that afraid of Iran. There are things in this world I can’t control. I can try to prevent the people that have been lying about all the previous wars from getting into the Pentagon again. The only people winning run the Federal Reserve, military industrial complex and oil companies while we lose our rights.

Oct. 10, 2012 at 12:26amRomney did a great job on this interview,
he seems to have found his comfort level, talking about & anticipating solutions
for our country.
He has the Presidential timber, that has been so lacking in our country
for the past term.
Also, it seems as if you can tell & feel
that even most of the Obama Media elite,
are now beginning to realize,
that they are speaking
with the next “Leader” of America & the Free World.
Romney commands respect because he believes America commands it-
it is incredibly refreshing & restorative.
Secretively, the liberal Blitzer seemed genuinely impressed with Romney-

Oct. 10, 2012 at 12:03amThe two things I agree with are 1: his stance on Israel, I grew up in Europe the history is clear and has been for thousands of years.
The second is the reduction on business taxes currently from a tax point (let alone the labor, cost of infrastructure IE real estate etc) the US is the most expensive country on the planet to do business in. Another thing in this respect is the security North America offers businesses. We have stable governments that are not subject to take-overs and nationalization (as in Africa, South America and parts of Asia. And the list is larger not many take that into consideration.

We’re just standing with individual Jews that want peace instead of blindly following the will of a nation state and it’s paranoid hawk leader and hardliner ********. While I won’t dispute your analysis of some of Beck’s supporters, you have collectively ascribed your views onto your fellow Paul supporters. Most of the Paulbots who post here are radical isolationists. Individualism here, for instance, has previously called our military and police forces tools of fascism and oppression. Despite his claim to be an individualist, he has repeatedly called for a unilateral and indiscriminate boycott of Israel, a country whose free market economy has the third most companies traded on the New York stack exchange, beating out all of the European countries. (Personally, I’d sooner boycott China, a country that has zero respect for ownership and property, as shown by their refusal to respect patent rights.) Individualism even supported OWS. In my opinion, his idea of American exceptionalism is little more than an “I’m an American so I’m entitled” mentality.
Personally, having been there, I believe the vast majority of Israelis would like nothing better than to be allowed to live in peace. That said, having many friends who live there, I expect the government of Israel to protect their well being by any means necessary. Iran has a history of providing Hezbollah and Hamas with any weapon which can attack Israeli civilians while not directly engaging the IDF. I highly doubt that, given nuclear capabilities, they’d hesitate to provide those as well.

Oct. 10, 2012 at 12:24amWhat I mean is; if the Islamists realise that the US will resolutely lead the west in defence of Israel, they will likely think twice before initiating an attack. Israel might also stay its hand on “first strike” if it believes that the Islamists will back away.
The above is by no means certain, but it is better than the west implying that Israel is on its own, thus emboldening the Islamists.
