MSNBC Host: Without Affirmative Action in Colleges, the ‘Entire Leadership of America Would Become Entirely White’

During Tuesday’s edition of MSNBC’s “The Cycle,” co-host Touré made the argument that without affirmative action in colleges, “the entire leadership of America would become entirely white.”

This, he explained, is barely a “whitewashing of what we already have” in America today.

“The Cycle” hosted Richard Sander and Stuart Taylor Jr., the authors of “Mismatch: How Affirmative Action Hurts Students It’s Intended to Help, and Why Universities Won’t Admit It.” Touré began by citing the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, which called their work “junk science,” in an attempt to discredit them before even allowing them to make their case.

“You suggest that it’s better for these black and brown students to go to second tier schools rather than to go to Harvard or Yale, the first tier schools. The entire Supreme Court comes from Harvard or Yale. Almost all presidents, Harvard or Yale – all the top of corporate America,” Touré said.

“So, if we follow your prescription then the entire leadership of America would become entirely white, which is just a barely whitewashing of what we already have,” he added.

Sander, a UCLA law professor, said the problem with Touré’s argument is “the fallacy of whether leaders come from top schools because they went to the top schools or because the top schools were good at admitting the strongest people.”

“The fact is, that there would be lots of black and brown people at elite schools without racial preferences. And they wouldn’t have the cloud of whether they benefited from racial preferences hanging over them,” Sander explained.

He added that “Mismatch” doesn’t advocate for eliminating “racial preferences” but rather to “curtail them in a couple of ways” and provide transparency about the issue.

For example, he said when African-American students are admitted into law school, they aren’t told that only one in three blacks entering law school will graduate and pass the bar in their first attempt.

I would argue that it’s better to be admitted on your own merit to a state university and do well than to be an affirmative action student at Harvard and fail. Good grades as an undergraduate in a “second tier” university can pave the way to a graduate degree from Harvard or Yale.

      @angelcat

That was my very first thought – how racist is that? He actually thinks blacks aren’t smart enough to get into college without help from whitey? Why is race or sex even on the application…it should be based soley on grades. you don’t get high enough grades, you don’t get in. My dad was an affirmative action hire (handicapped because he only had one eye – lost it at 15 in a motorcycle accident), but he proved himself capable many times over. If colleges ran on grades only and it was a high precentage of whites and orientals, it should shame the other races into working harder. But with Obama, you shouldn’t have to work because he didn’t have to. Everything was handed to him.

How do you fashion a test for a firefighter that involves, basically, where to place arriving equipment, how to attack the fire, the signs of impending flash over, etc.things that save or lose lives to be racist? The bigger question is do you place your life in the hands of someone that got to their position because of affermative action? That includes the general public white, black, green, what ever!

      And he’s right.

But he might have added that without AA blacks would not constitute the overwhelming majority of government workers and many corporate jobs, because they’re unqualified and have been appointed simply because they are black and can’t compete on a level playing field.

In essence what he’s doing is admitting what literally thousands upon thousands of tests and real life experience proves, and that is blacks need an unfair advantage over everybody else or all the vast majority can qualify for are janitors, laborers, and maids. I was a hiring manager of OR nurses and techs and NEVER considered anything other than drive, knowledge and ability and I (Caucasian) hired, Blacks, Latinos, Asians and, yes other whites. My workforce exactly mirrored the overall composition of the population as a whole. We saw the potential in the INDIVIDUAL as the key component. One question for Toure. AA does hurt the black students, but they are too stupid to realize it. They don’t realize that when you accomplish something like getting a college degree, and your grades are weighted differently because you are black, and you get into schools because of your race, and other human beings are being flat out discriminated against in order for you to attend, and “succeed”, then that makes that diploma worthless. Whenever I see a black person in a high position or with a good job, I immediately dismiss it as NOTHING because I know that they probably do not deserve to be there. They are just tokens to shut up the race quota goons in the govt. I know I am not alone in thinking this.

Our sorry whites help you do this who have hardly ever worked a day in their lives, just to set the record straight. Those in a position to if the right wins this election should shut all this mess down and let everyone stand or fall. We owe no one anything, but a chance. Blacks have had more chances than whites, but they are still overall destroying everything around them. I can see why he thinks affirmaitive action is necessary, he wouldn’t qualify as a shoe shine boy let alone college if not for affirmative action. He wants everyone to think he’s brilliant, though over time has proven to be terminally stupid. He obviously knows the only way he’d qualify for college is if standards for admittance are dropped through affirmative action. Since he obviously thinks he’s one of the smarter blacks around, it stands to reason that he believes other blacks are not as brilliant, and would also need affirmative action to get into college He appears to be confirming what anti black racists have said all along, blacks are stupid. The KKK’s got to love this guy. In Leroy’s case, a brain transplant sounds like his only option. I wonder if a normal brain would fit. Exactly my thoughts.

The point he is making is an insult to every educated black American.

Leftists are blinded by their own arrogance. They are too busy spewing words out of their mouths to actually recognize what those words are actually saying. And, failing completely to comprehend their own message, they will proceed to dislocate their shoulders patting themselves on the back for being the smartest person in the room.

Liberalism must surely die, though not nearly soon enough.

How funny is it then that the first non-white leader of America has been a star studded, strike up the band, all time FAILURE?

Barack Obama is the poster child for the failure of affirmative action or as it is more correctly identified, government approved discrimination.

Hopefully, he’s the ‘high-water mark’ for Afirmative Action, if not Ivey League control of Washington, as well.

Without affirmative action in our prisons they would be empty.

If this is the best blacks have to offer as leadership, then White must be Right.

Where are people like Alan West, Herman Cain, James David Jennings, and more who talk like they have good sense? This is the kind of leadership blacks should have.

Unfortunately AT THIS POINT IN HISTORY the shameful record of black leadership (read DETROIT et al) does not give many citizens hope that blacks have the welfare of the ENTIRE country in mind. Never have race relations been worse and NEVER has a race of people been given so many opportunities and blown them ALL.

The liberal view that blacks and other minorities are simply too stupid to make it on their own is both demeaning and degrading; yet the very subjects of the degradation cling to it and support it in near desperation.

That is exactly it. I knew a number of African-American officers in the Army who actually hated affirmative action. They even felt at times as if that is the only way other people viewed them, rather than their personal ability, skills, intelligence, and diligence to duty that actually got them where they were.

typical of those irrelevant, non-news reporting, washed up racists. I figure that if they keep calling everybody racist, it’s because they are the racist. I just can’t wait until they no longer have any audience..which is happening quickly!

We now have an affirmitive action president. Not working out so well. When you dumb down the system, we all lose. We are stuck with a president who “punches below his weight class’
      Not much longer though…
