Romney Chokes Up Explaining How He Met Former SEAL Killed in Benghazi Attack

Mitt Romney Chokes Up Describing Navy SEAL Glen Doherty, Killed in Benghazi Attack

(Photo: Getty Images)

Mitt Romney is often described as too stiff, lacking any sense of humor, and “out of touch” with the “average” American.Β  On Tuesday, however, the Republican nominee continued to show new depths to his character while giving a moving speech about one of the former Navy SEALs killed in the attack on our consulate in Benghazi last month.

The speech began with a humorous anecdote, but just a few minutes later made Romney choke up as explained how he once met the SEAL, confirmed by the campaign as Glen Doherty.Β  The whole thing ended with a mark of patriotism, and a reminder of how America is needed in the world.

The video really must be seen to get the full impact:

Beginning with an account of how the Romney family was invited to a neighborhood party through a letter in the mail, Romney explained how– though they didn’t originally intend to go– they changed their minds after seeing all the lights and cars just across the street.

He related what a good time they had, how they were fed and met new people, before saying with laughter: “Turns out this wasn’t the neighborhood party…This was a family, having a party with their friends.”

At that party, though, Mitt Romney was able to meet a man from his home state of Massachusetts, a former Navy SEAL.

“You can imagine how I felt out when I found out he was one of the two former Navy SEALs killed in Benghazi on September 11,” he continued, choking up, “and it touched me, obviously, when I recognized this young man that I thought was so impressive lost his life in the service of his fellow men and women.”

Romney continued, saying he heard Doherty and his colleagues were actually across town when the violence began.

“They didn’t hunker down where they were in safety – they rushed there to go help,” Romney concluded with emotion.Β  “This is the American way – we go where there’s trouble. We go where we’re needed.Β  And right now we’re needed– right now, the American people need us.”

This to me is some sort of divine intervention. He goes somewhere he is not planing on going, and its not the even the correct place, he meets Glen Doherty, a former Navy SEAL, who was killed in Libya, and because he meet him, he speaks emotionally about him, and it shows his compassion; both of which the media has been saying he doesn’t have. All I can say is wow!

Brought a tear to my eye. This is no auto-man. This is a man who can not only laugh at his own foobars, but get emotional when hearing of the death of a man he had talked to once and thought held so much promise. I’m liking him more and more and will be happy and proud to vote for a man with so much character.

He, you must be speaking of Obama, you know the guy who’s administration kept our folks in Libya when the U.K. high tailed it out saying it was too dangerous. The guy who ignored the attack on the U.K. dignataries. They guy who downgraded the consolates security forces not once, but twice in strength until they had vertually none. The guy whose administration ignored the consolates fears expressed about their safety. The guy who ignored the calendar on the wall announcing 9/11 was just around the corner. They guy who didn’t take the phone call announcing the underway attack because he was busy resting for campaigning. They guy who did NOT order any response from forces to investigate, or assist despite reports the ambasodor was missing. The guy who authorized the cover story of the “July YouTube clip” never seen as the reason for a September civil uprising. The guy who authorized that cover story despite Libya’s reports of the sophistication and planning and terrorist involvement. The guy who wouldn’t cancel a fundraiser or a TV appearance. The guy who sent form letters to the families. The guy who insists the middle east is safer and they love us more than ever.
That guy? I lost track was that Bush or Romney?

To Mr. PoliticianCrooks- Your comment that Romney puts Seals in danger. Um….are you “drunk blogging”?? You DO realize that Romney is not the President (yet) and hasn’t sent Navy Seals anywhere, RIGHT? Or are you one of those idiot Obama voters who isn’t aware that Obama has been President with a four year record of one failure after another…and blood on his hands (in Libya, Afghanistan, and in Mexico w/Fast & Furious)

America’s Founding Fathers were truly amazing….this is exactly the sort of thing that they tried to warn future generations of Americans about:

    ————————
“The constitution supposes, what the History of all Governments demonstrates, that the Executive is the branch of power most interested in war, & most prone to it. It has accordingly with studied care, vested the question of war in the Legislature. But the Doctrines lately advanced strike at the root of all these provisions, and will deposit the peace of the Country in that Department which the Constitution distrusts as most ready without cause to renounce it.”

I hope somewhere Doherty & Breitbart

    beyond this planet.

Romney & Oblameo are like day & night.
Accountability is everything to Romney, means NOTHING to the “Liar King”.
He’s too busy trying to cling to abusive power
to even give a single thought to the Libya tragedy
and if he does, it’s only steeped in maintaining the coverup.

It will be so great to have a Leader, once again,

The truth is that the Navy Seals who died were not on duty protecting the consulate. They were on another mission trying to locate missing weapons when they heard the shots from nearly a mile away. They ran to the consulate to help and rescued 20 people. They are true heels and Omana is distorting the truth saying they were on duty. Another Obama lie.

And four Americans died needlessly for Hillary’s incompetence. That’s why the “you tube movie” was the first thing Obama’s white house ran with..they hoped it would be enough to distract from what truly happened there. Hillary was among the first to jump on the “blame the movie” line. The story is finally starting to break into the mainstream, the enemedia can no longer block for Obama on this one.
