In a chilling phone call to 9-11 operators last week, 17-year-old Jake Evans admitted to shooting his mother and sister to death. The call, during which the young man said he had hoped to kill the two without putting them through any pain, opened with the youngster’s startling admission.
“I just killed my mom and my sister,” he said. “I shot them with a .22 revolver.”
However, the details didn’t end there. Evans went into the shocking factors surrounding the incident.
“I just thought it would be quick, you know,” the teen told the dispatcher of the crime, which was committed in Annetta South, Texas. “I didn’t want them to feel any pain. That’s why I used a gun, but it was like everything went wrong.”
The call was made on Thursday evening around 12:30 a.m., according to authorities. Rather than being shaken by his actions, the teen generally remained calm and detailed the crime in its entirety to 9-11 operators before police arrived on the scene. Evans was then arrested without incident and the bodies of Jami Evans, 48, and Mallory Evans, 15, were removed from the home, The Orange Leader reports.
Police don’t currently have a motive for the murders, as Evans had no history of mental illness or substance abuse. In fact, the young man even told the dispatcher that he wasn’t angry with his mother or his sister.
“I wasn’t even really angry with them. It just kind of happened. I had been kind of planning on killing for a while now,” Evans proclaimed, saying that he wanted to kill “pretty much anybody.”
As his basis for wanting to commit murder, Evans ironically said that he didn’t like the negative attitudes people generally have. He also explained that his family was suffocating him and then said that he is “evil.” The teen also admitted that “this is really going to mess me up in the future.”
Among the details he shared during the call, Evans recounted how he convinced his 15-year-old sister to leave her room before the shooting.
“See, my sister, I told my sister that my mom needed her. She was in her room, and she came out of her room, and I, uh, I, I shot her,” he said. “She rolled down the stairs, and I shot her again. And then I went down, and I shot my mom about maybe three or four times.”
The teenager also has two other sisters who were unharmed in the incident — one who is away at college and another who lives across the street from the family home with his grandparents. His father, who also lived in the upscale home in a gated community, was away on business at the time.
Naturally, the local community is shocked.

Oct. 9, 2012 at 10:35amYou could be right. I have a kid who’d very active. One reason why I home school him is because I know they would label him as add in a public school. 20 minutes at the table, 20 minute breaks, and he sucks up information like a sponge. Trying and make him sit for an hour would be impossible. Meds that have not been studied enough do a lot of strange things to people

Oct. 9, 2012 at 10:57amIt seems plain to me that whatever demons this boy was dealing with; whether it be the pharmaceutical kind, spiritual kind, or perhaps he was feeling unloved. Maybe he really was unloved.
Regardless, there was a point in time where this boy made a conscious decision of free will to kill his mother and sister. This choice was translated into action, and he did it.
It is that decision and action which is being judged. Not his past. Not what led up to it. Not the contributing factors. He is a willful, conscious, determined, premeditated, murderer.
Contributing factors like the above may play a role in his sentencing. Maybe he’ll get 40 years instead of life. Maybe he’ll get out in time to enjoy his twilight years as a free man.
He robbed his 15 year old sister of her life, and his own mother of hers. “Messed up his future?” He has no future….as it should be.

Oct. 9, 2012 at 11:22amThe problem with the “boy” is that he does not think the penalty for his crimes will be his own demise. He said, ”this is really going to mess me up in the future.” Don’t be surprised to find that his 18th birthday was approaching and he knew he had to “kill somebody” before he lost his chance.
If the penalty for willfully taking the life of another were death, and everyone knew that was the standard, crimes like this might occur less often. If people had faith in a higher being and trusted that he would hold them responsible for all they do in this life, they would be more careful of their thoughts and actions.

Precisely!
If punishment is to work as a deterrent, it has to be absolutely clear, especially to the youth. As ugly as it may sound to modern sensibilities, executions should be public, and they should be ugly affairs.
Our system now, is obviously not a deterrent.

Trying to pigeon hole everyone into one style or method creates way more problems than just adjusting and accommodating a little bit.
I wonder if the Colorado shooter had a history of add drug use.

Oct. 9, 2012 at 9:21amThe reason he gave and his manner of speech are very familiar to people with asperger’s. He was asking if they have medication for nightmare’s.
And just an FYI. A .22 caliber is the weapon of choice for children killing their family. And here’s another FYI, you can’t kill somebody(quickly) with a .22 unless you put it against their head and it penetrates the skull.
This particular round does it’s damage by ricocheting around inside the brain cavity. But it’s hard for this round to penetrate the skull. And kids that do this usually kill their families while they sleep. That’s why the dispatcher asked if they were in their bedrooms. Bedrooms, couch, etc. seems to be the place where this kids like to walk in and put a .22 to their families heads.

Oct. 9, 2012 at 8:58am‘when seconds count, the police are only minutes away” and this call demonstrates this so well. Can you imagine if someone broke into your house in this community and your kid(s) were home alone ? As I listened to this recording I’m picturing the cops stopping off for a pizza then on to dunkin donuts for some coffee and donuts and they recall they may be a little bit rusty so they stop off at the indoor shooting range, then off to the shooters house after the 911 operator has already extracted all the information from him without informing him of his rights.

Oct. 9, 2012 at 1:09pmI live in this community. They got there as fast as they could. The county covers over 900 square miles with much of it being farm land. We don’t have enough police. BUT people don’t want to pay higher taxes to build more polices stations and hirer more officers. It is also a very low crime area. I have never heard of a single murder in our community. SO needing police assistance quickly due to this type of crime usually NEVER happens.

No dude. You are already messed up. Describing yourself as “EVIL” was spot on. Especially, when you indicated your breaking point was when your sister was RUDE and that they were too NEGATIVE for you to be able to take it anymore. There is a hole right in the center of your soul that you tried to fill with blood and killing. But there will never be enough killing to fill the emptiness inside of you. Evil abounds……be watchful.

BUT…when they are young, they don’t understand the dangers of guns. When they are teenagers, they are too wild and unpredictable with hormones and moods. You have to LOCK them up.
