Could These Christian TV Networks’ Live Cameras Catch Jesus’ Return?

Those familiar with Christian theology know that Jesus — according to scripture — will one-day return to earth. While the time and place were left up in the air in the Holy Bible, some theologians believe that Christ’s purported return is rapidly approaching.
So — in some moves that could help two prominent, Christian television networks capture the epic moment on film, Daystar TV and Trinity Broadcasting Network have reportedly setup cameras overlooking the Mount of Olives, the location where Jesus is slated to re-emerge. The original report detailing these purported actions was published in The Los Angeles Times on October 1.
While Jesus’ return is mentioned in the lede, the main reason Daystar and Trinity have made their way to the region is to fulfill a more controversial goal: Spreading the Christian gospel in Israel (neither network has actually claimed that they are in the region solely to capture Jesus’ return). The Times reports:
If the Messiah descends from the Mount of Olives as foretold in the Bible, America’s two biggest Christian broadcasters are well-positioned to cover it live thanks to recent acquisitions of adjacent Jerusalem studios on a hill overlooking the Old City.
Texas-based Daystar Television Network already beams a 24-hour-a-day live webcam from its terrace. Not to be outdone, Costa Mesa-based Trinity Broadcasting Network last month bought the building next door.
The dueling studios are part of an aggressive push by U.S. evangelical broadcasters seeking to gain a stronger foothold in the holy city. Their presence not only offers boasting rights with American viewers and contributors, but also — and more controversially — a platform for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to Jews in Israel.
While some outlets seem to be focusing upon the notion that the networks’ presence is based on a thirst to capture Jesus Christ’s return, as stated, the facts seem to point more to the companies’ urge to spread Biblical ideals in the region. As the Times highlighted, TBN is working to bring its Shalom TV channel to Israeli satellite television; Daystar already has English-language programming running in the nation, with a presence on both satellite and cable.

“The main thing we want to do is help sponsor what we call Messianic Jews, or Jews that have received Jesus Christ as their Messiah,” TBN co-founder Paul Crouch told the Times. “We want to do some Hebrew language programs to reach out to Jews and entice them to read the word of God and become what we call a completed Jew.”
Naturally, this is controversial. While it’s perfectly legal to proselytize in Israel, the practice isn’t necessarily welcome; Orthodox Jews, in particular, have a strong disdain for it. Still, others welcome evangelicals, whom they have formed strong allegiances with and view as viable partners. The Times continues:
Some Israelis are welcoming members of the American evangelical community as strategic partners, both politically and economically.
In addition to becoming the fastest-growing segment of Israel’s tourism market, U.S. evangelicals tend to be staunchly pro-Israel, lobbying in Washington on the Israeli government’s behalf on such matters as the Palestinian conflict or West Bank settlement construction.
Christian broadcasters have donated tens of millions of dollars in recent years to build Israeli schools, community centers, hospital wards and even synagogues. Part of the support is based upon their belief that the return of the Jewish people to Israel will usher in the second coming of Jesus.

Now, back to the live feeds that could capture Jesus’ eventual visit back to earth (here’s Daystar’s live feed from Israel). The Huffington Post has more about the theology behind Christ’s scriptural return:
Jesus ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives. “And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight,” reads Acts 1:9-12 of the King James Bible. It is at the Mount of Olives where Christ is supposed to make his second coming, according to Christian scripture.
In Christianity, the Book of Revelation, the last book in the New Testament, describes Armageddon. Some Christians believe Revelation details exactly how the world will end. Judgment Day will come on Armageddon, and Jesus will save all the true believers, according to History.com.
While a live feed of Jesus’ return is certainly possible with today’s technology, in the mean time, it seems there’s some discontent brewing between the two Christian media companies that’s worth exploring. In a subsequent article about the ongoing competition between Daystar TV and Trinity Broadcasting Network, the Times notes the following about the networks’ new studios: “Both prime properties feature sweeping, unobstructed views of the Mount of Olives, Old City and Mt. Zion.
In a bizarre back-and-forth, TBN is accusing Daystar of trying to prevent the network from getting its own Israeli channel on the Yes satellite provider. And earlier this month, Daystar put a large sign on its balcony, advertising its presence. The problem with the banner? It is in a position where it can only be seen almost exclusively from TBN’s balcony — and it will make it nearly impossible for TBN’s cameras to capture Mt. Zion, the Times reports.

I would expect there are more important things to concentrate on if and when the supposed miracle occurs. Meantime, I can think of a number of ways that money could be better spent. (and yes, it is their money to spend as they will. It’s up to them to decide how their god would want those funds used, not me)

Revelation 1:4 John to the seven congregations that are in the [district of] Asia:
May YOU have undeserved kindness and peace from “The One who is and who was and who is coming,” and from the seven spirits that are before his throne,5and from Jesus Christ, “the Faithful Witness,” “The firstborn from the dead,” and “The Ruler of the kings of the earth.”
To him that loves us and that loosed us from our sins by means of his own blood—6and he made us to be a kingdom, priests to his God and Father—yes, to him be the glory and the might forever. Amen.
7Look! He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, and those who pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief because of him. Yes, Amen.
There will be no need of TV camera’s.

Interesting question (academically), but what is with the “long-haired 1960′s hippie” paintings doing here?
“Did Jesus Have Long ****?”
http://rcg.org/articles/djhlh.html
- “History shows that short **** on men has been around for a long time—much longer than many realize. At the time Jesus lived, it was the accepted and general custom.”
- “Erroneously assuming that Jesus was under a Nazarite vow …. Christ drank wine (Matt. 11:19) and, on occasion, touched a dead body (Matt. 9:25). Had He been under a Nazarite vow, He would not have done either of these things. …. I Corinthians states, “Does not even nature [the inborn quality of a man as contrasted to that of a woman] itself teach you, that, if a man have long ****, it is a shame unto him?” (11:14).”
- “Jesus would have looked like any other Jewish man of His time. …. On a number of occasions, He was able to blend into a crowd because He looked just like everyone else (Luke 4:30; John 8:59; 10:39).”
What does Jesus The Christ actually look like?
“… and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, … His head and **** were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, … and His countenance WAS LIKE THE SUN SHINING IN ITS STRENGTH.”
-Revelation 1:13-18, Holy Bible
Good luck with those cameras …

I find it amusing when someone like you comes along and uses the Bible to make a statement and your statement about said scripture is so far off.
You said “New Testament every last one of you is going straight to an eternal burning hell for calling him Lord and not doing a damn thing he says.”
You really need to read the Bible in stead of getting your information from Atheist blogs and or your own mindless fantasy world.
Let me help you.
Ecclesiastes 7:20
Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
Romans 5:8
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
I think you’ll find the next two interesting. Look them up if you don’t understand them.
James 4:11-12
Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
Matthew 6:14-15
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive

Perhaps some sort of technology will have to be involved. Even if the entire population were in the holy land, would the people on the outer edges of the crowd be able to see anything more than a glow in the distance? I mean, they have to use Jumbotron TVs at concerts and sporting events, and that is just for 100,000 people arranged in stadium seating. Will the entire world see his coming, yes! Do we know EXACTLY how? No. Is it a waste of time to place cameras? Maybe. There are no guarantees that they will be left alone until the Savior’s return.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 7:38pmThere are a number of explanations for how Jesus might be seen, and technology is just one of them. Don’t forget that Jesus is the Son of God, so if anyone can do it, He can. My belief is that He will come in all of His glory, which means that He will be surrounded by the light of glory that He was transfigured into on the mountaintop when Moses and Elijah came to visit Him. Of course, the concept that technology could carry it around the world is another scenario. But we all seem to be getting ahead of ourselves because before He ever sets foot on the earth again, He comes and takes His bride away (the church) taking the Holy Spirit out of the world so that the man of sin can be revealed and the 7 years of tribulation can be fulfilled. In other words, Christians will not be around to witness the 2nd coming, unless they are saved after the church is taken out, which I’m sure is possible. I tend to think that the tribulation period is a period where God is dealing more with the Jews than with the church, but I could be wrong about that. It just doesn’t seem possible for men to be saved if He takes His holy spirit out of the world as it states in 2 Thess.

When the Bible says the Lord’s return will be seen by ALL. I don’t picture people huddled around their TV sets. The Bible indicates that the event will break the foundation of natural law. That the sky will roll up like a scroll, that he will speak in the voice of the Archangel of God, that his face will be like the sun…etc.
In conclusion…God doesn’t need ANYONE’S help in accomplishing his will.

Two different events. When Jesus sets foot on the Mt. of Olives, again, He will be here to stay and “rule the world with a rod of iron”. There should be an enormous ammount of video of the rapture, since it will happen all over the world all at once. But some are confused or just believe differently than others.

Jesus sacrificed his fleshly body, and died as a man. He is now a spirit King at the right hand of his Father Jehovah in the heavens. Jesus’ return is invisible to humans. He comes in the clouds, meaning it is obscured to the visible sight of man. We can “see” his arrival if we can recognize it spiritually.

[36] While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
[37] They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. [38] He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? [39] Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
[40] When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. [41] And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” [42] They gave him a piece of broiled fish, [43] and he took it and ate it in their presence.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 3:15pmRational: You’re not being very rational here. Nowhere have I said I don’t believe the prophecies of Christ’s first coming. That’s how we can know the Bible is true because Jesus fulfilled those prophecies. But something else to note, not everything in the Bible is meant to be taken as a literal interpretation. Do you honestly believe there’s going to be a literal seven headed beast? I would say not. So the “split” the verse is talking about is not a literal physical happening. Look at Jesus’ earthly ministry, some people believed and some people didn’t it was “split” if you will. But when Jesus comes again, that’s the end. The earth and all that’s in it will be burned up (2 Pet. 3:10). So how will Christ reign for a thousand years on the earth if it’s burned up? You see then that you have to carefully study God’s word and see that some of the language is figurative (or the language represents a spiritual state and not a physical fleshly state). Kind of like our language today, if I told you I was so hungry I could eat a horse well you know that I’m not going to actually eat a horse.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 3:11pmUnderstand clearly – when the Lord Jesus returns it shall be after the last seven plagues; for when the seven plagues are unleashed, the determination of everyone is done, the investigation of the books of heaven and the forgiveness of sin is completed; then the execution of justice comes upon those who have turned fully against God.
When Christ comes back, all people alive at that time shall see him, all knees shall bow, and all tongues confess that HE is THE LORD!
As recorded in 1 Corinthians 15: 51-54, and in Thessalonians, the last trumpet shall sound and the dead in Christ shall be raised, and we who are alive and belong to Christ shall be transformed, the mortal becomes immortal and we shall forever be with Christ and with God.
The wicked who have denied God and His gift of mercy and salvation and forgiveness shall be slain in the brightness of Crists coming.
The 1000 years are spent by the saints in Heaven; and when the return comes with Jesus and new Jerusalem, then, and only then, comes the execution of final judgement on the wicked.
As Revelations declares “Blessed are they who partake fo the first ressurection, for on them the SECOND DEATH shall have no effect.”
All glory, praise and honor be given to God.
May His son Jesus return soon for His people.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 4:06pmI think it’s important to note what Revelation truly says. John states in 1:1 and 22:6 that the things listed in the book of Revelation are events which must “shortly” (en tachei) take place. It’s been almost 2,000 years and if these events were to be about something in the future then God’s word lied. When Peter was in prison an angel of the Lord told him to “arise quickly” (en tachei- Acts 12:7) it is meant to do so speedily. So if John is writing about a future event then “shortly” is false and the book of Revelation is false unless it is understood that the events are foretelling the destruction of Jerusalem, something which was, at that time, shortly going to take place. I would recommend reading Luke 21, Mark 13, then Matthew 24. In the first parts of those chapters Jesus is telling His disciples about the destruction of Jerusalem. Why warn those who are pregnant or tell people to flee into the mountains if this is about the end of times? No one will be able to escape the judgment. Also in 1:4 of Revelation it notes that this was written to the 7 churches of Asia… why write to them about their spiritual condition if this was about a future event? The key to understanding Revelation is that most of the things talked about pertained to those in the first century but is also hope for us who are alive today that when Jesus comes again the judgment will take place and He will take care of the wicked.

The “last days” is the time period of when the Messiah comes and the time after that. The Bible also says that 1,000 days is as 1 day to the Lord. So, “shortly” does not give us a specific time but according to the Bible we’re only 2 days into it. We have to go back to the original languages and let them speak. You can’t just quote Greek and then say this is what it means–you have to look at the greek word and determine what it means apart from our own determination, which is what your doing with the word “shortly.” Jesus gave several parables which directly referred and demonstrated that He would be gone on a long journey and that nations would rise against other nations—this was going to take some time before he returned.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 5:29pmL.B.Stephens: That’s how we can understand what Revelation truly teaches is by looking at the rest of the Bible. You can’t do so without it.
Bigthan84231: For starters you’re taking 2 Peter 3:8 out of context. This verse is about God’s promises and that He is not slack concerning them (vs 9). I recommend reading the whole chapter. Secondly if you are to use that verse for saying a day is as a thousand years then I would suspect you believe in the Day Age Theory am I correct? That God made the earth over millions of years? If not then why not? As for “shortly” not giving us a specific time you’re right it doesn’t say at 2:30 on Tuesday but it gives us a general sense when these things are taking place which to John and the 7 churches of Asia knew it meant soon, shortly, within THAT generation. Shortly cannot mean 2,000 years from then for 2,000 years is not “shortly” for the audience in which it was intended. The greek word if you look it up means quickly, speedily, soon, shortly, a brief space of time, in haste… so how am I taking “tachei” out of context?

It seems to me, that when we are given insight (wisdom, knowledge) from scripture, that it will apply throughout the whole story. what im getting at is this. the 1000 yrs that is wrote about pertaining to the devil in chains and the bottomless pit, and the time in heaven etc etc. could be just one day. overnight so to speak. just a thought….peace

My point is, . . . stop being “sick” of people and do something to help them out if they are in need. Isn’t that what you are called to do? Instead, you lump me in with “those you are sick of” when you don’t even know me. You don’t know why I post what I post or what I do when I’m not on here. Posted on October 10, 2012 at 3:42pmSo you expect me to believe that god creates laws [physics] and breaks them for this event . . . .when the bible doesn’t even say that? What the actual meaning tells me is that people of that day thought the earth was flat, thus why “ascension in to heaven”. . . “coming in the clouds”,. . . “every eye will see….”. It isn’t the only place in the bible where you find this uneducated belief. Because the earth IS “round”, it causes a believer to do a lot of mental gymnastics to work around it.

God is bound by His own Word. Not the workings of the universe (and it’s laws) He Himself created.
Your issue is that the only God you can conceptulize is one who is bound by the same laws and limitations as us. The real God created this universe and is not bound by the limitations that he created.
A great example would be how a computer programmer is not bound by the rules (laws) he has set up in a program he has created. If he wants too he could even create a new programming language.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 5:39pmWhat several of you are saying is that you’re much more comfortable with a God who can be understood in the framework of the physical universe.
So you create physical conditions that can explain these miracles, or at best show a slight bending of the rules. All of which could easily be understood if only modern man with his knowledge, technology, and enlightened understanding of the universe was standing there when the miracle occured, rather than those primtive, nose-pickin’ cave men.
In this way Noah’s Ark is just a parable about the few being saved, and the flood was just a local occurence and not world wide. Afterall the ancient’s idea of the world was just their local area.
The miracle of the loaves and fishes are at best just an example of communal sharing rather than a miracle.
In the same manner the miracles of Revelations are explained away as Nuclear War, engineered plagues, and modern weaponary all seen through the eyes of a primitive man named John.
What you don’t see is the trap you set for yourselves, by putting your god in a box, abeit a modern one, and you’re stuck in this mind-set, hence the 10’000 foot tall Jesus that can be seen beyond the curvature of the earth as your explanation for what I’m saying
The apostle Paul said “No mind can concieve what God has prepared for those that love Him.”
That means that the human brain cannot even imagine it. You literally don’t have the ability.
Think on that for a moment.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 9:13amRanger, . . . again, I understand your need to make things work out, given our modern understanding of the universe. It makes no difference to me if you choose to believe it.
However, WITH the evidence we have, I hope you could see why many of us “non-believers” do not find it compelling. . . . . . . NOR should any “god” being [if it exists]. Based upon what we know [upon the evidence that can be found], it will absolutely be impossible for “the entire earth seeing a singular event in one SMALL location of the globe”. So, “not believing it” cannot be held against us [again, IF this god is real]. . . . simply because the ONLY book that has stated this . . . is a man made, man worked, man revised, man decided, collection of works…from various men who believed the world to be flat [at that time] and were uneducatted about the actual world they lived in. There are plenty of examples of this. To base “breaking physical laws”, based upon one vague verse, is something I cannot do.
Furthermore, the book of Revelations is FILLED with all sorts of analogies and metaphors. A chapter of my book talks about all the obvious metaphors in that specific book, so anything mentioned in there would be higly suspect to begin with.
Again, makes no difference to me if you see truth in it. Just as long as you don’t work towards getting this “end of the world” stuff going.

We can agree to disagree about whether God exists or whether or not there will be a second coming. They only thing I’m arguing is that we won’t need tv to see it or know it’s happening, period. If you don’t think it’s going to happen anyway, then tv stations preparing to show it live should be ridiculous to you as well. That fact alone we should agree on, albeit for different reasons, but we agree none the less. ;)

A miracle is an event believed to be caused by interposition of divine intervention by a supernatural being in the universe by which the ordinary operation of Nature is overruled, suspended, or modified. The term is derived from Latin word miraculum meaning “something wonderful”. http://www.reference.com/browse/miracle?s=t

I have done my due diligence in the study of this subject and have made my conclusion. And I realize that not everyone believes as I and many others do. I am comfortable with that and I can deal with opposing views without name calling, like you. If I and others are wrong, there is no harm done. Name calling and being divisive and condecending towards other Christians does tend to be harmful though. Have a nice day!

I might give you the same advice that you gave me.
In that verse, Jesus is refering to that present time in which they were talking. Not the second coming. Some translations say “….the kingdom of God is within you.” It is mostly refering to the Holy Spirit in us and working in the world. Luke 17:21 does not refer to Jesus returning to earth and establishing His Kingdom on earth as told in Revelation.

Your Bible verse [Luke 17:20,21]is completely unrelated to this topic of the return of Jesus.
But I’m glad you read the Bible anyway.
Really……..Then here is another Matthew 24:3 where his disciples ask ” Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and the conclusion of the system of things.
Matthew 24:23 states “Then if anyone says to you, Look! Here is the Christ, or There! do not beleive it.
So like in Luke 17: 20 it will not be with striking observableness and also if Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees and said the Kingdom is in your midst I don’t think he was saying it’s within you.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:20 ……if your righteousness does not abound more than that of the Pharisees, YOU will not enter into the kingdom of the heavens.
