Krauthammer Not Sure Whether to Laugh or Cry in Response to Obama Campaign’s ‘Big Bird’ Attack

Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer during a Tuesday broadcast of Fox News’ “Special Report with Bret Baier” seemed both troubled and amused by the Obama campaign’s decision to spend time and money on a Big Bird-themed attack ad.

“This could be the worst ad I’ve ever seen. I make an appeal to people in Chicago: run this ad every night over and over again, spend all of your money and time on this. This is an ad that is trivial, it diminishes the presidency,” said Krauthammer.

“It assumes, of course, that everybody wants to subsidize a company that, as we heard from Shannon [Bream] is a third of a billion dollar enterprise,” he added.

Here’s the ad Krauthammer is talking about [note: Sesame Workshop has asked that both campaigns stop using Sesame Street characters and trademarks. The Obama campaign has responded by saying they would "review" the request]:

Krauthammer continued:

And for Obama to be talking about it — I love the way he said this is the biggest driver of the debt. The biggest driver of our debt, according to Obama himself, is Medicare, he’s done nothing on that. And it was the same rip on Medicare that Romney mentioned PBS as the way to say we’re going to go from the biggest expenditures to the most trivial expenditures because we have to go after everything when we have a deficit this large.

“And just as an additional thing for anybody to run an ad that reminds people of the worst debate that any president has ever had, I think is a big mistake and I hope they just keep running it until the end of time,” the conservative columnist added.

The Bird Bird talking point is based on a moment from last week’s presidential debate when Republican candidate Mitt Romney proposed ending Federal subsidies to PBS.

“I’m sorry, Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS … I like PBS, I love Big Bird, I actually like you, too,” Romney said to debate moderator and former anchor of the PBS “NewsHour” Jim Lehrer, “but I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for.”

Big Bird is part of the 1% and does not need the cooperate welfare. He and the rest of the Muppets made a quarter billion dollars just in toy sales alone! Tell PBS and Big Bird they are doing just fine without my tax dollars! PBS should come up with a new Muppet “Fat Cat.”

The millions that PBS generates and we are borrowing for programs like this? Big Bird generates his own cash and need not have subsidies from the backs of hard working Americans. Ridiculous ad.

The Dims should have run Big Bird in 08 instead of Obirdbrain! He is a good speaker, respected by adults and kids love him! I have never seen Big Yellow reading off a teleprompter or race baiting anyone and when he is wrong , he admits it!
Then again, Big Bird is too smart to be a damnocrat!

It’s a shame the President didn’t spend as much time protecting our Ambassador to Libya as he has protecting Big Bird.

This just shows how bankrupt of ideas the Obama campaign really is. All they have left to throw at Romney and Ryan are “You’ll kill Big Bird!” (somewhat like they claimed Romney “killed” that steel worker’s wife), and “everything Romney says is a lie!” (at the same time they lie through their teeth about just about everything).

That’s okay, though. I still have Hope & Change! I HOPE there’s a CHANGE in who’s President after November 6th!

And did they pay royalties to Big Bird for using him in the ad? No, they just took what they wanted. They’re special that way.

There’s more than enough rich liberals out there to easily make up the $400 million a year to NPR and PBS—about 15 percent of the two entities’ combined budget. Nancy Pelosi probably has half that in change on her dresser.

If Obama doesn’t have the backbone to rebut a a so called lying cheating Mitt Romney during a debate, then how is he going to deal with the likes of Putin, Ahmadinejad , Kim Jong-un or Hu Jintao

don’t get me wrong, big bird as absolutely adorable as a character. but to politicize that fact over and over again is really pandering to emotions. ‘vote like your lady parts depend on it!’. ‘vote for obama or your child wont see big bird anymore!’ – c’mon, really?
