Obama’s Former Classmate: ‘He Told Us That His Father Was an Indonesian King,’ That ‘He Was a Prince’ & ‘Would Be a Ruler’

This week, PBS’s “Frontline” published the transcript from a June 27, 2012 interview with Kristen Caldwell, a woman who grew up with President Barack Obama and attended the Punahou School with him in Honolulu, Hawaii. Among other claims, she told PBS that, as a young child, Obama told his classmates that he was Kenyan royalty or an Indonesian prince — fascinating claims that she discussed in great detail.

The former classmate, who referred to Obama as “Barry” throughout the interview (the name she claims his classmates called him), said that she believes Obama was at the prestigious school on scholarship. Like other kids who were attending on reduced admission, he likely worked at the tennis courts on campus — a location where the two frequently hung out.

During the interview, she described Obama’s physical appearance and his frequent purported embellishment of his background.

“I can picture him as this slightly — “chubby” is too strong, but rounded, short little guy, Barry Obama,” Caldwell said. “And he told us that his father was an Indonesian king and that he was a prince, and after he finished school he was going to go back, and he would be a ruler in Indonesia.”

Obama must have been charismatic even then, as his former classmate said the following about his wild claims: “I absolutely believed him.” Caldwell also said she heard that Obama once told his fifth-grade class that he was Kenyan royalty. While she didn’t hear this directly — and it was years later that the story made its way to her — Obama’s claim to be a prince was something she experienced directly.

“My sister and I remember very clearly that he was an Indonesian prince and that he would be going back there,” she continued. “So there was some reference to where he had come from, and the understanding was his family was there.”

Caldwell and Obama were purportedly close, seeing as her father allegedly drove him home from the tennis courts on rainy days. Additionally, she claims that they spent a great deal of time hanging out together both during the school year and throughout the summer each year – however, she didn’t seem to know intimate details about his background.

As far as the embellished stories about his father and stature, PBS asked Caldwell why she believes Obama told such tall tales.

The former classmate said that she believes insecurity was the central underpinning of his stories about being royalty and one-day returning to Indonesia to assume the throne. After living in Hawaii until he was six, moving in Indonesia from six until age 10 and then arriving back in the state, once again, she said she could understand why he felt the need to compensate.

“I would think he would have felt very, very fish-out-of-water, very uncomfortable, and like anybody, he’d have to have a little bit of bravado to mask the insecurities,” Caldwell continued.

In a subsequent question, PBS asked if Caldwell noticed anything special about Obama during the time she spent with him. Considering that he grew up to become the leader of the free world, the outlet was curious to know if he exuded confidence and other such sentiment that pointed to a bright future ahead. While highlighting the fact that Punahou was filled with brilliant and talented children — and that getting into the school required that one fit these categories — she said, “to me he was a normal kid.”

“He didn’t seem outstanding academically or athletically or any other way. To me he seemed normal,” she continued.

While these claims are certainly odd, children often role-play and use their imaginations. It’s entirely possible this is what was at play. Either way, these are some intriguing claims to say the least. Read the transcript from “Frontline’s” entire interview with Kristen Caldwell here.

They are all smelling blood in the water… hollywood is jumping ship on Obama, friends and former associates are now speaking up, the military is against Obama, the Intelligence department is against him, even the State Department is trying to distance itself… they are all running, they see his kingdom is crumbling and everyone is running for the lifeboats…

I bet you a lot of phone calls are going out to some of the best defense lawyers in the country right now, because a LOT of people in this administration are going to need them, there will be hell to pay for 4 years of cover ups and treachery come Jan 13th when President Romney is sworn in.

  While I agree that lawyers should be needed, we both know that nothing will happen to any of them. Romney will not try to proscute any of them. He will be afraid of being racist or vengeful or whatever.

  Best we can, is make this as simple as possible…Romney at his inauguration speech should hand the keys to a uncharged Chevy volt with no fuel in it to Obama… it could be sitting there with a cover over it .   It’s always been a mystery that the radical left….especially the MSM…….assigned some kind of above-average ability to this man.
  
  At one point during the election primaries, I opted for a little test for myself to determine if I were biased against Obama, because most every black I’ve known in high-profile positions were in whatever position they had, in order to get a black face to show to the world, and, on that basis, perhaps I was judging this man.
  
  So I repeatedly envisioned what he said as coming from a white person. Many times.
  
  He STILL came across as about average for a person in his position, and a bit below in general knowledge or cognitive ability.
  
  Right now it’s more than apparent to me that this guy is just another media hype the propagandists use because they perceive some advantage in it in the pursuit of their radical leftist agenda.
  
  The debate had nothing to do with lying or telling the truth and everything to do with revealing intelligence or a lack of it.
  
  The left is going hysterical over the revelations now taking place which expose their chicanery and delusions, and they won’t take it in stride. Remember these are the same people who lyingly and brazenly altered the 911 tapes in the Zimmerman case and altered the video to show no injuries.
  
  There is NOTHING they won’t stoop to in their hysteria. So expect the CNN moderator in the next debate to try something that she feels will help Obama.

  Got the U.S. job outsourcing program started by using American corrupt stock market greed, have almost all U.S. S&P 500 companies jobs moved to China, causing China’s economy to skyrocket, by getting the world hooked on their cheap Chinese manufactured stuff.
  Now the United States and Europe and parts of Asia, economies are collapsing, because there is no manufacturing foundation without a manufacturing foundation you have no tax revenue being generated, now that the world has very little money to buy cheap Chinese stuff with, the Chinese economy is starting to collapse.
  Because China saw big opportunity on outsourcing jobs coming in, Trillions of dollars being loaned out to different countries including the U.S. generating interest income, and now no chance of ever getting repaid, because world economies have collapsed. So China is going to go down with the rest of the world that is the Communist plan to get the world to destroy itself.

A country of laws (BS) I would rather see all of it cleaned up and some jail time and some sort of punishment to the guilty.   I don’t think it’s fair to use what he said as a little kid against him, we didn’t like it when they tried to use what Mitt Romney did in school. We have plenty of things to use against Obama, isn’t his record enough? I don’t think that we have to get into the mud with them, it’s how we’ll win, by staying about it all. Remember how we were treated by them when he won? Two wrongs don’t make a right, that’s how they play.

  I think Obama’s tall tales are the result of his superiority complex, not an inferiority complex. He’s always been smug and thought he was better than anyone. Ever head of the Project Pegasus? Andrew Basiago is a lawyer who claims he was involved in a secret government time travel project and Obama was in it.   and yes I am going to go there…….when I look at that high school style picture of Obama above…I can’t help but seeing Michael Jackson as a young lead singer for the Jackson Five…..and then contrasting that youthful picture of Jackson years later when he…Jackson would perpetually deny ever having significant plastic surgery or any kind of facial alteration. You reach a point after a while…and Barack Obama is learning this real real quick…that the gig is always going to come back to bite you on the a$$……and in less than a month…..our current president is going to have chunk ripped out of his behind so big…….that it will take a lifetime to heal. You live in fantasy land Mr Obama…..and your entire house of cards is already beginning to become loose at the seams. I may not dig Mit Romney’s religion all that much….I might find him a bit too stiff and squeaky clean for my own personal tastes……but I will vote for him Mister Obama…if for no other reason than to teach you the one simple lesson in life that has thus far escaped your existence or conscious reality. Obama’s mother was a slut who posed naked for Frank Marshall Davis on his sofa and there is nothing in the media on it. It sure goes a long way to explain why he does not want to release his college records because fraud was involved in applying for admission and aid as a foreign student. Now I doubt that he was born in Kenya, but used it as a ploy for admission and aid.

  I’m not sure he was that poor, but Harvard *is* very expensive. Barack held dual Kenyan-American citizenship until age 23, so it is fair to assume he used it to get into Occidental College.
  
  Getting into Harvard was actually easier. He had already lost his Kenyan citizenship and was therefore considered fully African American — which is the most favorable status to get into Harvard if you are very smart (which Obama is not) or have connections in high places (that he did have). I’ve worked with several pathological liars over the years and I had a sister who was unable to tell the truth about anything. They were all fairly intelligent and capable people, but they just couldn’t tell a straight story about anything. Barack Obama seems to fit the mold precisely.

  Honestly, reading the interview, I thought “that poor little boy!” That Barry lied is not such a big deal to me, but it fits into the narrative leading right up to the Big Bird debacle. Our president is dysfunctional. Granted we’re all kind of dysfunctional, I can’t relate to Barry’s dysfunction in the least. Who could? His background doesn’t make him identify with all of us; it makes him identify with NONE of us!   It may not be important what Barry said in the 5th grade, but it does show a pattern of behavior that he’s stuck with throughout his life. By the time a kid is in 5th grade (roughly 10 or 11 years old), they are past the make-believe stage and they know what is and isn’t “real.” They also know when they are lying and when they are telling the truth. Barry knew he had an audience and was perfecting his schtick. When he grew up, he did the same thing as a “community organizer” (has anyone seen the community he organized? Bhagdad after the Marine incursion looks better). He campaigned on lies and illusion in 2008. Now his lies have come back to bite him, and even the MSM can’t protect nor defend him.   Landon: at age 5-6 an embellished story can be written off as fantasy or a misunderstanding of your truth. At age 10-11 you know right from wrong and unless he was fed this lie by someone else, he should have known it was an embellishment to boost his own ego.
