Planned Parenthood President: Romney ‘Trying So Hard to Mislead People’ on Abortion Stance

Getty Images
The president of Planned Parenthood on Wednesday blasted Mitt Romney’s latest comment on abortion, saying he is “trying so hard to mislead people” about where he stands.
Romney on Tuesday told the Des Moines Register that abortion legislation won’t be part of his agenda. Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards said the Republican presidential nominee has said repeatedly he would “be delighted” to sign a bill banning all abortions in the country, pledged to get rid of Planned Parenthood and blasted Roe v. Wade.
“The Romney campaign is trying so hard to mislead people,” Richards said during an Obama campaign conference call with reporters. “This isn’t about flip-flopping, this is about distancing himself from positions he’s taken repeatedly.”
Drawing in GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, Richards said the Wisconsin congressman is part of “one of the most anti-women Congresses in decades” that has attempted everything from “redefining rape” to so-called “personhood” legislation that would give a fertilized egg the same rights as a human being.
“These are things that his running mate Mr. Ryan has supported,” Richards said.
She called it “troubling” that Romney is “so willing to play politics” on women’s health issues.
“Women frankly just can’t trust Mitt Romney and the American people can’t trust him to be honest and direct about where he stands,” Richards said.
Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said “the real Mitt Romney will say anything to win.”
“He’s trying to close the deal just like he did in the boardroom at Bain Capital,” Cutter said. “He’s trying to cynically and dishonestly hide his real position but there’s not hiding when you’re president.”
Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said Tuesday Romney “is proudly pro-life and will be a pro-life president.”

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 3:06pm(Deep breath) Where does the Bible say abortion is wrong? Are there zygotes in heaven? Killing the unborn is Biblical. Hosea 9:11-16 Hosea prays for God’s intervention. “Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer. Give them, 0 Lord: what wilt thou give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. . .Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.” Clearly Hosea desires that the people of Ephraim can no longer have children. God of course obeys by making all their unborn children miscarry. Is not terminating a pregnancy unnaturally “abortion”?
Numbers 5:11-21 The description of a bizarre, brutal and abusive ritual to be performed on a wife SUSPECTED of adultery. This is considered to be an induced abortion to rid a woman of another man’s child.
Numbers 31:17 (Moses) “Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every women that hath known man by lying with him.” In other words: women that might be pregnant, which clearly is abortion for the fetus.
Hosea 13:16 God promises to dash to pieces the infants of Samaria and the “their women with child shall be ripped up”. Once again this god kills the unborn, including their pregnant mothers.
2 Kings 15:16 God allows the pregnant women of Tappuah (aka Tiphsah) to be “ripped open”.
I am not comfortable writing these things and women who use abortion

@Exrepublisheep,
In Leviticus 17:14 “The life is in the blood” and Jesus shed his blood for ALL to live. God is the only true judge. What gives you the right to determine if a child should live or die? Where are the rights of that child to chose? What’s the difference if the government takes a 3 day old baby and throws it in the trash to die or someone sucks the brains out of a fully formed baby in the mother’s womb? Tell me please how that is any different…
If you think it’s the mother’s right and not the baby, then a mother could simply deny feeding the baby or stick a needle in the back of it’s head and suck out its brains…right? The baby is still 100% reliant on the mother for the first year or so…so what’s the difference? Inside the body or outside, it’s still a living, breathing, sensitive to light, sound and so much more.
Some time in the future children reading history books of the evil USA that killed unborn children and the questioned will be asked “why didn’t anyone do anything to stop it”? The same question we ask today of the Holocaust… “Why didn’t anyone do anything?”

By your logic, murder is also acceptable to God, which we know it isn’t. It’s easy for us to think that if God does it, it’s okay for us to do it. That’s a dangerous position to take in your relationship with God. We are here on this earth to be tested as to whether we will follow his commandments and submit our will to his. It’s that simple. If we put ourselves in the position of judging the decisions he makes (which is where I believe you’re heading with this argument) then we are putting ourselves on par with God – or even above him. You may be willing to take that chance and challenge God in that way, but I’d advise against it.
Thou shalt not kill. Love thy neighbor as thyself. Fairly straightforward commandments. These are part of your test while you’re here on earth. Abortion is also one of the questions on the test. I wish you good luck, and hope you’ll answer wisely.

TWOTL. It is most definitely NOT my desire to challenge God on ANYTHING. It IS my desire to clearly understand his lessons and to be aware when his lesson is changed to fit someone elses politics or opinions. KILLING is not against Gods will, MURDER is. Thou shalt not kill is a mistranslation, otherwise we’re screwed if the Army would refuse to kill. Jesus wants us to study the scriptures, even when it’s Jesus talking. Christianity is strong enough, by far, to be challenged by anyone, for whatever reason.

You cited some passages that describe parts of the Law, but you miss the larger picture. First of all, I agree: “thou shalt not murder” is a more accurate translation. Obviously, God does not condemn those who are soldiers (Jesus never rebuked Centurions) or self defense (Exodus 22:2). Breaking the Law in certain cases resulted in the punishment of death, so taking those quotes from that context to say that God does not disapprove of abortion is misleading.
Secondly, we can extrapolate from Jeremiah 1:5 that God knows His children before they are born: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Also, take Ephesians 1:11: “In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will”.
But honestly, just ask yourself: would Jesus approve of abortion? Given the emphasis both he and the Father place on our lives (and our redeemed lives), it would be difficult to say He would, praise be to Him.

Q: Why such a dramatic and profound change after pledging never to waiver on a woman’s right to choose?
Romney
A: I was always personally opposed to abortion, as I think almost everyone in this nation is. And the question for me was, what is the role of government? And it was quite theoretical and philosophical to consider what the role of government should be in this regard, and I felt that the Supreme Court had spoken and that government shouldn’t be involved and let people make their own decision. That all made a lot of sense to me. Then I became governor and the theoretical became reality. A bill came to my desk which related to the preservation of life. I recognized that I simply could not be part of an effort that would cause the destruction of human lift. And I didn’t hide from that change of heart. I recognize it’s a change. Every piece of legislation which came to my desk in the coming years as the governor, I came down on the side of preserving the sanctity of life.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 2:21pmThe real lie about abortion is that the choice came prior to conception. Unless forced, a woman has a choice to have sex or not have sex. This is her choice. The consequence of that choice is potentially conception. Anyone too cowardly to face up to the consequences of their actions is irresponsible, untrustworthy, unreliable and void of character.
Yet, we have groups that promote such cowardice acts.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 2:20pmThe only thing “planned” about planned parenthood is the abortion schedule.
Why not take the money they get and give it to an organization that can teach people to read a calendar? That way they will know which 4 days of the Month to wear a condom, or abstain. PP is obviously unqualified to teach this. That should debunk their ‘theories’ about people who would rather see babies prevented rather than murdered. Then PP can be used to refer hardcases for their abortions and be paid the same Medicaid rates they have a right to expect- and the rate decreases by 50% each time they repeat an abortion on the same patient (obama agrees with this payment schedule).
Then PP can adopt the correct and descriptive name they should be using anyway– Planned abortionhood..

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 3:28pmIf you want to call something that is legal that the majority of Americans support murder then go for it (None of my partners have ever had an abortion for the record) I couldn”t find that case, but that person is misguided. I support her right to choose to have an abortion even though I disagree with her decision to do it for that reason.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 4:05pmI can see that being relevant for preventative health screenings like MRI’s, X-rays, CT scans – I’ll look into it, but even if that’s true I hardly see the 3% number jumping up that far.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 4:38pmContraception helps prevent PREGNANCY. Abortion is the antithesis of pregnancy. Your ilk see abortion as just another form of contraception,

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 1:46pmMislead people about abortion. Aha. Ending Planned Parenthood wouldn’t be a presidential mislead. It would be an act from a decent man to save babies.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 1:43pmHere we go with Mrs. Richards. What about the name of your federation: “Planned Parenthood” Isn’t that absolutely misleading? You should call it: “Planned Murderhood”. And talk about your record: How many babies were killed this year under your watch?

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 1:41pmIf only laws made sense, abortion wouldn’t be an issue – If a fetus should be the creation of a rape or incest, why should the fetus pay for it‘s innocence with the loss of it’s life? It would be better to force the criminal to pay into an anonymous fund to support the child until it is 18, whether or not it’s adopted, and if the child is aborted for the sake of the mother’s life due to injuries suffered during the commission of the crime, the criminal should be charged with murder.
Makes more sense to have the criminal pay for his crime than to have an innocent fetus killed.

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 1:46pm…and one more thing – In the case of pregnancy out of wedlock where both parties consented to the act, NO abortions allowed for the sake of convenience of either party; BOTH parties and ONLY both parties, are responsible for the health and welfare of the child , and in the case of adoption, both parties are to anonymously share the expenses of the adoptive parents until the child turns 18- period.
Again, why reward irresponsibility by taking the life of an innocent fetus? There is no excuse for willfully creating an unwanted life, what, with all the prophylactic materials and chemicals sold over the counter to help whores and rabbits prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Ergo, if your willful actions result in a life created, YOU’RE responsible; not me, not any other taxpayer, and to put the onus of murder on a doctor for the sake of your convenience is a CRIME…
