Beck Walks Through Libya Timeline and Describes ‘Massive Cover-Up…Bigger Than Watergate’
On Wednesday evening, Glenn Beck delved into a laundry list of evidence revealing that the White House and President Obama have been far from honest when it comes to the recent embassy attacks in Libya and in Cairo.
The latest in a string of damning information now indicates that the State Department even rejected embassy staff’s request for additional security prior to the attack and that security threats were present in Libya for months prior to September 11, when U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, two Navy SEALs and another American civil servant were killed.
The coup de grace for the Obama administration, however, was in blaming a YouTube video for the attacks on U.S. embassies in Cairo and Benghazi when they were in fact premeditated. Watch below as Beck goes point for point through a powerful timeline of events — both in the administration and across the Middle East — that remove any shred of doubt that, as Beck put it, a cover-up far exceeding the Watergate scandal is at play.
A chronology of crucial moments leading up to and in the aftermath of the attacks is provided below courtesy of the Heritage Foundation:
April 6: IED thrown over the fence of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.
April 11: Gun battle erupts between armed groups two-and-a-half miles from the U.S. Consulate, including rocket-propelled grenades.
April 27: Two South African contractors are kidnapped by armed men, released unharmed.
May 1: Deputy Commander of U.S. Embassy Tripoli’s Local Guard Force is carjacked, beaten, and detained by armed youth.
May 1: British Embassy in Tripoli is attacked by a violent mob and set on fire. Other NATO embassies attacked as well.
May 3: The State Department declines a request from personnel concerned about security at the U.S. Embassy in Libya for a DC-3 plane to take them around the country.
May 22: Two rocket-propelled grenades are fired at the Benghazi office of the International Committee of the Red Cross, less than 1 mile from the U.S. Consulate.
June 6: A large IED destroys part of the security perimeter of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. Creates hole “big enough for 40 men to go through.”
June 10: A car carrying the British ambassador is attacked in Tripoli. Two bodyguards injured.
Late June: The building of the International Red Cross attacked again and closed down, leaving the U.S. flag as the only international one still flying in Benghazi, an obvious target.
August 6: Armed assailants carjack a vehicle with diplomatic plates operated by U.S. personnel.
September 8: A local security officer in Benghazi warns American officials about deteriorating security.
September 11: Protesters attack the U.S. Cairo embassy. U.S. Embassy releases statement and tweets sympathizing with Muslim protesters/attackers.
September 11: U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya is attacked, Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans are killed.
September 12: Secretary Clinton and President Obama issue statements condemning both the video and the attacks.
September 12: U.S. intelligence agencies have enough evidence to conclude a terrorist attackwas involved.
September 13: Press Secretary Jay Carney condemns video and violence at a news conference.
September 14: Carney denies Administration had “actionable intelligence indicating that an attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi was planned or imminent.”
September 14: The bodies of slain Americans return to Andrews Air Force Base. President Obama again blames the YouTube video.
September 16: U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice appears on Sunday talk shows and says the attacks were provoked by the video, exclusively.
September 16: Libyan President Mohamed Magarief says, “no doubt that this [attack] was preplanned, predetermined.”
September 17: State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland refuses to call attacks an act of terror.
September 19: CNN reports having found Ambassador Stevens’s diary, which indicates concern about security threats in Benghazi.
September 19: Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Matthew Olsen tells Congressthe attack in Libya was “terrorism.”
September 20: Carney tries to back up Olsen, says it was “self-evident that what happened in Benghazi was a terrorist attack.”
September 20: Obama refuses to call attack terrorism, citing insufficient information.
September 21: Secretary of State Clinton, at meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister, says, “What happened in Benghazi was a terrorist attack.”
September 25: On ABC’s “The View,” Obama says, “we don’t have all of the information yet so we are still gathering.”
September 25: To the U.N. assembly, Obama blames “A crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world.”
September 26: Libya’s Magarief on the “Today” show says, “It was a preplanned act of terrorism directed against American citizens.”
September 26: Published reports show U.S. Intel agencies and the Obama Administration knew within 24 hours that al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist were involved.
September 27: Innocence of Muslims filmmaker Mark Basseley Youseff (aka Nakoula Basseley Nakoula) is arrested and denied bail on the charges of “probation violation.”
September 28: Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper, Jr., issues a statement backing the Obama Administration’s changing story about the Libyan attack. Says facts are evolving.
October 2: Carney declines to comment on reported requests from diplomats in Libya for additional security, citing the State Department’s internal investigation.
Beck went on to ask why the embassy was denied their repeated requests for additional security and why Stevens was even still present in Benghazi when the British embassy and Red Cross were “smart enough to leave.” He also wondered why the FBI were not deployed to the scene until last week and spent a mere “three hours” on the ground there.
“Whose idea was it to make up the video excuse?” Beck asked. He added his theory that Stevens “was our broker tasked with arming the Libyan rebels” and that eventually, when he “needed to get the weapons back,” the deal “went bad.”
“This is a massive institutional cover-up bigger than Watergate,” he slammed. It may be just “massive incompetence but you have been lied to in a massive and coordinated fashion.”
Beck suggested that the reason Obama is so focused on “Big Bird” currently is to detract attention away from this scandal and that the president is pandering to the Muslim Brotherhood by condemning the “slander of Islam.”
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. First and foremost – if you really are a US vet (I will take your word on that) and not pulling anyone’s leg here – then I personally thank you for your service.
I understand where you are coming from concerning the covert nature of what these men might have been doing. (again – questioning CIA station versus Embassy is a valid question and point that you raise, which I am not debating with you)

First , you are welcome and it was my pleasure to serve as much as it was my duty to serve. #rd gen war vet so i am following the line of men in my family. I agree with you that the handling of this by the Obama administraion was awful but what do you expect them to say? Walk up to the podium and say ” our ambassador and a few former seals got killed while selling weapons to Libyans?” . Romney actually screwed this up by making it a political attack that night against Obama, perhaps he cousdl have checked first to see if there was more to it?
We all have a right to question things but when those questions can leak sensative national security information its best to leave it alone. Just as it happened in the GOP house hearings on this yesterday. It is CIA that was invloved just go watch the hearings

We should just leave it alone rather than expose secret information the terrorists already know? It sounds like you’re more interested in protecting the Obama administration during an election than in protecting secrets. I guess Congress should stop investigating Fast and Furious, too, because Obama has stamped it Top Secret. Is there anything the American people have a right to know in your world?

Get your facts straight, the embassy is in Tripoli and there is only one. If you can get the basic facts right on the story the rest isnt worth a response.
AS far as thhe CIA angle, did you see the hearings yesterday? It was a CIA front which was confirmed already and there are others still there that coudl be put in harms way.
As far as the SEALS, my buddy is a former seal and trainer at Blackwater. Do you know how many SEAL have been killed in the past decade? A good question/point on if it was an embassy or a CIA station, but still irrelevant to the situation. What is relevant is that we have 4 dead US citizens, one the official Ambassador to Libya, and an administration that – at best – shot from the hip with a knee-jerk reaction that turned out to be completely false.
*************
They shot form the hip due to trying to cover up government activities form the public as we always do but Romeny jumped the gun and made a statement to turn this into more than it should be. I am a war vet so i feel for the loss of any US life but what stevens and the ex seals were doing was covert and not to be disclosed. People on those type of missions are aware of the risk and while we mourn their loss they knew what the worst case scenario would be.
An Embassy is in the capital , Benghazi is not the capital. An embassy is secured by marines not former seals. As soon as i heard these pieces of info i knew it was a CIA front and was proven correct. Use common sense guys. Talking about this attack and the office will only put those who are still there , and there are many covertly there, in harms way. If you are upset about this loss of like you shoudl be but you shoudl also be mindful that moer talk will only casue more harm

However…when the embassy in Benghazi was asking for more security weeks before the assault and even on the day of the assualt perhaps the state department should have acted on the credible threat? Oh wait it did..it pulled the security to give the appearance that all is well in Benghazi and “al Qaeda is on it’s heels today”..because..well..because it’s an election year. On the other hand..the embassy in Vienna got some new Chevy Volts so that’s some good budget allocation from the state department and the Obama administration yes?
Oh and Chris Stevens was a career diplomat and asked for the post in Benghazi. Nice try with the “it was a CIA front and you guys just outed them” routine.
But speaking of outing our covert operatives…what happened to SEAL Team 6 (which officially doesnt’ even exist) after they took out OBL? Oh yeah..Biden and Obama couldn’t keep their mouths shut and they lost many members of that team in an attack on their helicopter just over a month later. But hey..spiking the football is more important..after all “bin laden is dead and GM is alive”..right NEVERMIND? Right?

What I do not agree with you on, and find absolutely no valid excuse behind, is how this got handled by the current administration. To come out and blame, or use, a YouTube video as cover for what was really going on? That is thin, easily debunked, and irresponsible on the part of this administration.
I believe that those who are questing this publicly (like those in Congress and Romney) are doing the correct thing. I think, even if it was covert activities that went awry, it now needs to be brought front and center to the public because we have dead American’s in a foreign country that we do not have openly hostile relations with.
Again, as I said, at best this administration “shot from the hip with a knee-jerk reaction that turned out to be completely false.” At worst, they knowingly and openly lied about it. And that is what we (everyone on all sides) needs to find out.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 2:57pmMASTICE…look at how Obama handled the OBL operation and how the embassy in Benghazi has been handled.
An operation that genuinely involved covert operatives in SEAL Team 6 ( a team that doesn’t even officially exist) was outed by Obama and Biden barely 48 hours after the operation. As a result, many of it’s members were killed just over a month later. To rub salt into those wounds Biden turned it into a bumper sticker “bin laden is dead and GM is alive”.
Chris Stevens was a career diplomat and asked for the job. What happened in Benghazi was political not CIA. Other international missions had left Libya because its’ just too dangerous there right now. Obama on the other hand had to back up his “al Qaeda is on it’s heels today” statement by keeping the mission open. So weeks before the attack requests for more security by the embassy were ignored because sending more troops to Benghazi would muddy the Obama administration’s assertion that all is going just splendidly over there.
Dont’ forget..Obama re-opened the embassy in Damascus to pander to Assad before hostilities broke out in Syria and was forced to close it not too long ago. Obama has no idea what’s going on in the middle east and he filters his meager policy (can we even call it a foreign policy?) through his desire to pander to Muslims which I’m sure was instilled in him from childhood in Indonesia and may even explain what’s behind that Koranic ring he’s worn since his teens.

If passed, the bill would have forced funds to be funneled to where they were needed the most. Any embassy in the Middle-East should have been at the top of the list to receive the most funds.

“For fiscal 2013, the GOP-controlled House proposed spending $1.934 billion for the State Department’s Worldwide Security Protection program — well below the $2.15?billion requested by the Obama administration. House Republicans cut the administration’s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012. (Negotiations with the Democrat-controlled Senate restored about $88 million of the administration’s request.) Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’ proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security” — a charge Republicans rejected.”

Then they kept pounding this lie even when the obvious truth of the situation was voice by multiple people inside and outside the intelligence community in the US and middle east.
Seems to me that bringing this fund cutting argument after the lie has already been disseminated is just another attempt at misdirection. the original lie is still as big a lie as it ever was regardless of the back-fill with which this administration tries to cover it.
This whole exercise is just a continuation on the administration’s central theme: misdirect, duck and cover.

Was there any budget consideration and lack of budget which lead you not to increase the number of people in the security force there?”
“No, sir,” said Lamb.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 3:45pmCessna avoiding the truth that Ryan and the Tea Party Congressman cut the security budget of the State Department over the objections of the President and the Sec. of State.
Ryan and the rest of the GOP have blood on their hands for putting Ayn Rand before the safety of Americans.

So we get your point about spending being cut on security (despite your deafening silence/avoidence of the issue of a ridiculous amount being spent on a lemon ‘green’ car for the State Dept). So how do you answer the REALITY of additional security being denied the Ambassador within 24 hours of the attack, as well as his hazardous duty pay being increased (paraphrasing as I’m a soldier and not a State Dept employee and don’t remember the precise name of the pay type).
When you can honestly discuss this aspect of this tragedy maybe someone will take you seriously. The reality though is you’ve never given an indication of the personal courage required to question DNC talking points much less the intellectual capability to investigate the dishonesty of their various contradictory positions.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 11:43amGlenn, I don’t agree 100% with everything you say but your analisys of this is 100% correct and some heads should roll over this coverup and extended lying to the American People.
Constitutionally every President has a sworn duty to not only uphold the Constitution but to protect America, Americans and American territory and the current President has failed on all counts.
We don’t need scapgoats for this we need the people at the top to be help accountable.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 11:39amGo back Beck! We need to start at the time when we bombed them. I believe those that had the power to fund it in Congress without opposition were R’s. But yeah, let’s just point fingers at the other guys though. Don’t you see how this lunatic is dividing us like the lunatics on the other side? It wasn’t D’s or R’s that were responsible it was Washington. Unless they voted against it, tried to stop it they were responsible. My guy tried to stop it, but this lunatic Beck said that HE was crazy.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 12:11pmJust angry, Did the president lie to the American People or didn’t he? Yes or No? Let me give you a hint, he lied!!!!!! The State Dept Lied!!!!! The House turned down funding for Syria and by Presidential Executive Order they are getting 45 million dollars to do the same thing they did in Benghazi. Wake up!!! 938 Executive Orders since Obama has become President——————Sounds like a Dictatorship to me. This thing really smells of over-up for selling arms to the enemy. Hope someone has the balls to prove it!
