Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly and actor Ben Affleck debated a variety of subjects on last night’s “O’Reilly Factor.” From taxes to Iran, the two — who hold divergent views on a variety of subjects — bantered back and forth on the issues of the day, while also discussing Affleck’s new film, “Argo” (a film about a CIA mission to rescue Americans during the Iranian revolution).
“I don’t worry too much about what my liberal friends are going to say,” Affleck said about those who might take issue with “Argo” and his overt accolades to the U.S. intelligence community. “To me, I made a movie that my friends who are democrats and my friends who are republicans can both watch. It’s not a political movie.”
Of course, the interview quickly turned to political issues, as the 2012 presidential election is just weeks away. Affleck made it clear that he’s a supporter of President Barack Obama and that he plans to vote for him in November. The movie star and director also heralded the president’s proposals and actions on taxation and the stimulus.
“His major policy goal of changing the tax structure so that the wealthy pay their fair share, to me, is of towering importance,” the actor said, going on to defend the stimulus as a necessity and “a good thing by-and-large.”
O’Reilly countered by asking if Affleck, Do you believe in income redistribution?,” a question that the entertainer countered by claiming that changing the tax code doesn’t necessarily mean redistributing wealth. While the actor pointed out that the rates would merely be returning to what they were during Bill Clinton’s presidency, this technically still remains — in the eyes of conservatives – redistribution.
As for Romney, the actor surprisingly issued some pleasantries for the former Massachusetts governor.
“I know Mitt Romney. I met him. Very pleasant guy, very nice guy,” he told O’Reilly, however he said that he would “put money” on the fact that Obama is slated to win again in November.

Oct. 11, 2012 at 5:45pmBen Affleck seems like a nice enough guy, but it’s easy for him to say the rich should pay more.
NO Ben, the rich should only pay more on their own. Send an extra one million +- of your own if you feel you owe it. It’s not yours to ask others to pay more than a fair percentage of their wealth when they are giving generously to charity or church or keeping people employed.
Many Churches help more people around the world than anyone else…..period! If God only expects 10% why would I even consider giving 20, 30, 40 or 50% to the spend-thrift Government??
Perhaps if the government exercised some forms of thrift and constraint, I wouldn’t mind giving more.

Oct. 11, 2012 at 6:03pmAlso to Ben Afflick, haven’t you ever noticed that the more money we throw at things, the worse they get? More money to schools and union teachers, and the dumber the children seem to get. Send your kids to a charter or Christian school for a decent education. Too many dumb kids with poor educations out there to deny it.
With cardboard sign flyers, they don’t want food, they want money, even tho Salvation Army, Catholic outreach programs, other churches have 3 meals a day in most towns and beds. My mom spoke with a guy who took up a location outside our market going on 3+ years now. He said he wants the money so he can eat at a restaurant, not the soup kitchen. Heck, why get a job when you can beg?
I’m not talking about people in real need, I’m talking about those who prefer to make us feel guilty for not supporting them if they’re just lazy doofuses. Many prefer to live under bridges, etc. rather than get a job, but I don’t feel it’s my obligation to take care of them. We all work and have families too.

Oct. 11, 2012 at 10:16amWhen these guys say Mitt and other wealthy people aren’t paying their fair share, they are obviously neglecting their voluntary charitable contributions. You don’t know Mitt any more than I know him. We all see Romney is a nice pleasant guy…but the fact is, when you site “the fact”, as you know it, and because of it, you also place importance on your decision because ‘everyone’ is doing it. Oct. 11, 2012 at 10:03amWho cares what Hollywood thinks. Our current tax code is indeed income redistribution. That’s precisely why some much a much greater percentage and dollar amount than others, yet we all share the same military, infrastructure, etc.. equally together. If we all paid a fair tax and we all had “skin in the game” the democrat party would wither away. It’s because so many Americans have allowed themselves to become dependent on the government and dependent on the redistribution of other peoples money, that the democrat party exists. This fact is indisputable.

Oct. 11, 2012 at 10:02amSo true, each and every time we hear about a politician tax cheat it seems to be a rich democrat, Gietner, Sharpton, Brown, to name a few. So what is fair? Is 75% of all the income tax revenue fair?
Because that is what the top 1% contribute. Is the number that the Laffer curve, and supported by an Obama advisor from Berkley fair, the same number that was put forth in polling data of a top tax rate of 33%. Or is it fair, to raise the rates and thereby actually reduce the amount of money collected, that is the truth, under the clinton era rates the rich paid in less, and paid in a smaller percentage of the total. Progressives want to use the tax code to punish those who disagree with them and reward those who agree with them, pure and simple, want a fair tax code, set the rate for everyone. Romney made a true statement more than 47% of those old enough to pay taxes pay nothing, and many of those get more back from the government than they pay in, through the earned income credit. And these people have no interest in the truth or changing the system, they get rewarded for not producing while the rest of us pay for them. Reward the producers and they will produce more, it was true in 1920, 1963. 1982 and 2001, and it will be true when we get rid of the progressives in government.

He does have a point. suppose Chuck-U gets his way. Then people are going to be comparing Cost of Living in different urban areas & complaining they are not right. It could end the progressive tax system. People have a basic sense of fairness (fairness brain circuity) that is hardwired. Even monkeys have it. You cannot breed it out. the poltical class has to give in or get replaced.
Flat tax is the only way to go.
