Detroit Homeowner Forced to Live With Squatter Until Authorities Formally Evict Her

Heide Petersen Claims a Woman Is Squatting in Her Detroit Home and Wont Leave

Heidi Petersen says she found a woman squatting in her Detroit home. The alleged squatter won't leave. (Image: MyFoxDetroit screenshot)

Imagine Heide Petersen’s surprise when she returned to her Detroit, Mich., home after being away for a year to find locked changed, plumbing reworked, appliances replaced and the woman who conducted all this work living there, refusing the leave.

Petersen told MyFoxDetroit the alleged squatter Missionary-Tracey Elaine Blair was a prior tenant of hers. Now Blair won’t vacate the premises she was never given permission to stay on in the first place since renting from Petersen. Petersen said the law prevents her from having Blair forcibly removed, so now she and her 1-year-old daughter are living in the same space.

MyFoxDetroit asked Petersen if she felt safe. She responded saying she is unsure of Blair’s capabilities and her “mindset of entitlement” is worrying.

When posed with the statement by a MyFoxDetroit reporter that some would consider it odd living with a squatter, Petersen said, ”That’s I guess something that happens in Detroit.”

Watch the report:

She said she spent nearly all her money on the historic home she purchased last year for $23,000. She can’t afford to go elsewhere while the squatter is living under her roof.

According to records, Blair is a write-in candidate for president this year. This button was found by MyFoxDetroit. (Image: MyFoxDetroit screenshot)

But the Blair has a story too. MyFoxDetroit reports Blair saying, after they interviewed Petersen, that she isn’t squatting and that she has a lease in the place:

“I have a construction lien for the repairs that I put into the house.  Someone had (broken) into the house on July the Fourth and they stripped the radiators and I made a report,” she added.

“In February 2011, we had to vacate because the boiler was damaged,” she continued.  “I took all my books and my writings, but my (furniture was) still left in (there).”

We also asked her whether she thinks there is a program where anybody can go into Detroit, take over an abandoned house and live there.

“I’m an advocate for affordable housing.  That’s a part of my campaign,” she said.  “I’ve believed that since the first time I met her when I was running for state Senate (in) 2010 and she was also running for a political office, that was a part of my belief.  I signed an oath pledging that I would fight for affordable homes.”

MyFoxDetroit reports that Petersen is trying to take this case to civil court to prove her right to the property and evict Blair.

When squatter leaves for work or groceries, all keyholes are filled with quick dry bondo. Photos are taken of the squatting for later evidence. Curtains are pulled on all lst floor windows. Squatters possessions are placed in the front yard. 30 pounds of nails placed on the driveway. No tresspassing signs placed in the front and back windows and in the yard and driveway. Front and back doors are nailed shut. Homeowner refuses to answer door for anyone for two days. END OF SQUATTER.

That’s how it is in most cities in the country. The law is on the side of the tennant, even if that tennant is a squatter. Read political commentary at: http://smallcraftadvisorychronicles.blogspot.com/

This story is the introduction of the Doctrine of Common Need to Americans… approved and promoted by the Vatican as well as numerous European governments that are already enforcing it. When numerous European home owners called the police to report the trespassing violation, they were told that squatters had great and immediate need and therefore were not in violation of the law. Not only were the homeowners stuck with the squatters, they were informed that they were not permitted to charge the squatters rent and furthermore had to freely provide a basic level of comfort. The doctrine legally permits a person with need to take “the necessity” from someone who has more than they need. In this particular case, the home owner has more than enough living space to share with the squatter in need (this is why the most recent census included the question about the number of rooms in every household). It’s a varying form of redistribution and a tricky and additional way to dissolve private property rights. Naturally, the first thing they needed to do was remove the logical, common remedy; call the police to remove the trespasser/squatter… this had to be changed so that burden was placed solely on the property owner. Will the property owner or the squatter prevail in court? The first cases will be won by the property owner, but just until the introduction is complete and the enforcement of the Doctrine of Common Need is commonplace.

I don’t care if this woman was gone for 10 years and came home to her empty house, its hers!

It sounds to me like she once rented to this woman and ended it.

Doesn’t this ‘squatter’ have a job? – As soon as she left for work, everything she owns would be across the street on the curb!!
    – That is, if I doesn’t have a few burly relatives…. heh heh

and when she tries to force her way in, defend the property, dump the body in a parking lot, nobody will ever investigate. That is how Detroit operates. She was stupid for going back there in the first place.

Not only would you not invest in a home that you don’t own. I consider it a criminal action, i don’t care if they are improvements, IT”s NOT HERS. This is like someone towing off my mustang because they wanted to add a body kit and racing strips. Sure, it is adding to the car but I hate racing strips and body kits.

This would be like me busting into my neighbor’s house and doing a bunch of work to it and then declaring it’s my home. This is absurd.

Typical ghetto-head obamanite. This reminds me of the scene in that old movier…Doctor Zhivago…when the soviets took over they made rich people share their homes with everybody. ‘It be everybody’s home nah”. Obama is a communist and many blacks agree with that travesty of a government.

Here is a simple solution. Shoot the b*tch! She is a trespasser. She broke into the place and made it her home. Good thing she didn’t do this to me, cause she would be in a body bag. When the mayor of Detroit tells people not to visit there because their lives are in danger, that says it all. I say nuke Chicago and Detroit. So you may lose one or two decent humans, but like war, sacrifices must be made for the greater good.

Weird, but, there has to be more to this story. So, she used to rent to this crazy lady? She’s been away for a year and didn’t check on the house? She left the utilities on? Who was maintaing the yard for a year? Of course, it’s bizarre that she can’t remove this crazy woman from her house, but, the story isn’t quite adding up. What’s really going on here?

When I first moved to the Detroit area, the lady next door to me told me that she and her boyfriend had squatted in a home in the city for years. He was a union milk truck driver. She worked under the table for 10.00 an hour. I’m not even sure they owned the house next to me.

I really have a hard time reading this awfully worded story – She never gave permission for the woman to live in a place she was previously renting to the squatter? Was the woman living at this residence previously and simply stopped paying rent for a year? Seems a call to the police stating there is an intruder in her home might have been step one.

Detroit police no longer reply to intruder-in-my-home calls unless life is being threatened. If you lie and say you’re in danger, they come and arrest you. The homeowner has to call a number to report a break-in or, in some cases, go to a precinct. Good luck finding a precinct that hasn’t been shut down or had its hours reduced. In the end a statement is taken, or not, and you’re left to replace your stuff. If you want someone to break in again and steal it, that is. We do have “Castle Doctrine” though!
