Twitter Reacts to Biden’s Body Language During Debate: ‘Stop Smiling and Laughing!’
The debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan started harsh and only got more and more brutal as it proceeded, with Vice President Joe Biden attacking Republican Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan with gusto, repeatedly speaking over him, openly snickering and shaking his head at Ryan’s answers, and essentially giving the impression of a heckler.
And needless to say, the strategy garnered a lot of responses from opinion-makers. Below are some of the most hilarious/strange/interesting responses to the Biden/Ryan debate:
Joe Biden has laughed so hard he’s lost his voice. #vpdebate
— Chris Rock (@chrisrockoz) October 12, 2012
Joe, seriously, STOP SMIRKING. This is serious stuff. Be Vice-Presidential. #PMTdebate
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) October 12, 2012
Apparently raising your voice & pounding the table is what Grimacing Joe does when cornered. #debate
— Karl Rove (@KarlRove) October 12, 2012
Biden’s strategy seems to be to laugh at Ryan constantly. Will it work to infantalize Ryan, or backfire like Gore sighing?
— Philip Klein (@philipaklein) October 12, 2012
Joe Biden needs to realize this isn’t a Senate Foreign Relations Hearing. His laughter and condescending attitude is a disaster.
— Brad Dayspring (@BDayspring) October 12, 2012
Can’t tell yet if Biden’s smirking, laughs, eye-rolling, head shaking, works for him or not against the oh-so-young looking eager Ryan.
— Paul Bedard(@SecretsBedard) October 12, 2012
Joe! Stop smiling and laughing! #vpdebate
— Roger Ebert (@ebertchicago) October 12, 2012
This Biden guy is awesome! I hope he keeps that nice sleepy black guy on the ticket!
— Bill Maher (@billmaher) October 12, 2012
CNN declared the debate itself a draw, but several of its commentators, including David Gergen and Alex Castellanos, gave the style points to Ryan. Summing this perspective up more bluntly, Fox News’ Chris Wallace called this the most “openly disrespectful” debate performance he had ever seen over 52 years of watching debates.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 11:41pmStill grieving the 9/11 2012 Al Qaeda assassination in Libya. Too soon to laugh. Romney and Ryan have plans. To be a success in big business you have to grow and flex so their plans will be flexed and worked on until they win. What they do. Obama and Biden just trying to hang on to jobs they never were qualified or equipped to do. And promising to keep it up their failures.

Posted on October 12, 2012 at 6:11am@Quagaar Warrior The fact that they chose Biden as a running mate proves how racist they are. After his comments during the 2008 primaries, about O being a clean articulate black man (as if there were so few of those). Biden is just insurance so racist Democrats could say they voted for the white guy if it back fired. I would LOVE to see a Herman Cain/Allen West ticket, but I didn’t get my wish. This administration couldn’t confuse their voting base by having 2 black men run for president so they drove Herman Cain out of the running.

Posted on October 12, 2012 at 1:08pmAfter about 20 minutes into the debate, I had to mute the sound when Biden spoke. I just could not take his mocking, laughing, and lies. I’ve never seen such a disrespectful display from a VP of America. Yes, from Pelosi, Wasserman, Reid, Waters, etc., but not from any previous VP. It was a disgrace. America is in decline and Biden laughs.

Posted on October 14, 2012 at 10:02pmBiden got a free pass from the liberal media on his boorish behaviour. Americans who rely on the ABC/NBC/CBS trifecta for their news will assume (as most have NOT watched the actual debate, but rely on liberal media reports)that it was a fair debate and Biden did a good job. Liberal media is unequivocally the worst enemy to America. Even worse than Obama himself. They create these political leftist monsters and perpetuate their success through endless lies and biased reporting favioring the left. If someone on the Right had behaved in a manner like Biden in a debate they would have been run out of DC. Our side only has one on our side and that is God and His Providence. Blessings!

I can just see the DNC room emptying out after the announcement that Obama lost the election, everyone has left and cleaning crew is coming in to clean up the mess left on the floor and Joe will be standing there smiling “We won right? We Won? GM’s alive and Osama’s dead… 4 more years, right?”
Then they shut off the lights…

Never though an hour and a half could ever take that long.
If nothing else, biden proved to be a stupid old fool. Wouldn’t trust him to answer a 3 a.m. phone call.
He’d probably laugh in the phone just like he did to all the TV audience. We don’t want an old fool in the White House, I want someone who will take the pain of our Country seriously. That should have been a serious debate, and it was only 1/2 serious, thanks to Paul Ryan.

Something very unnatural (creepy, as one poster put it) about
Bidens actions. Nobody laughs this much unless on drugs,
alcohol, or have a screw loose. My bet is on the latter. After
all, he has had some real gaffes in speeches lately….could
be ‘losing it’. NOT somebody I would want within one gunshot
of the presidency. His ‘performance’, (which he had a whole
week to rehearse), was childish, idiotic, and must be quite
embarassing for the Dems as a whole (hole). But watch for the
spin tomorrow – they will chalk it up as a ‘huge victory’.

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 11:22pmBiden was way over the top — disrespectful and condescending. NOT VP material, but I’ve never been a fan of his. I mean, he’s got a nice smile, but come on! Mostly stuck to typical liberal talking points, including a number of outright lies. Moderator seemed too easy on him.
Ryan appeared smart, respectful and made his points, clearly and calmly. Thought he drank too much water, which made him appear nervous — maybe that’s just me. Loved his come back to Biden bringing up the 47% — definite “gotcha” moment. Moderator seemed to cut him off more.
Not sure if there is an all-out, clear winner in this debate and think both sides will say they won. I say Ryan won, mostly due to Biden’s obnoxious demeanor which, I think, will detract from his message.

Since Biden has no substance to respond to Ryan and lack the material to show himself professional, savvy and to the stature of the Vice Presidency, I bet Axelrod advised him to behave the way he did. the debate. My vision of the perfect debate would be a
microphone switch, controlled by a TRULY independent
clock-keeper. You get asked a question, and while you are
responding, the other persons mic is OFF – period. Once
the question has been answered, only then is the mic
enabled for the other side. Unlike tonight, the other side
would NOT be allowed to interrupt the answer.
But, as long as the lame-stream media will be
‘moderating’ these debates, I don’t have any hope of that.
