Fed Deficit Exceeds $1 Trillion for Fourth Year
The U.S. Treasury Department on Friday announced the federal budget deficit will exceeded $1 trillion for the fourth year in a row.
The deficit for the 2012 budget year totaled $1.1 trillion, which is about $207 billion less than it was last year (if it’s any consolation).
“The deficit equaled about 7 percent of U.S. economic output, down from 8.7 percent in 2011, 9 percent in 2010 and 10.1 percent in 2009, but it was still greater than in any other year since 1947,” Reuters reports, citing the Congressional Budget Office.
(So much for the consolation.)
“The government ran a surplus of $75 billion in September, Treasury said in its monthly budget statement, the second monthly surplus of the fiscal year and the biggest surplus since April 2008,” MarketWatch reports.
Government spending fell two percent to $3.5 trillion. Aided by a 16 percent increase in corporate taxes, tax revenue rose 6.4 percent from last year to more than $2.4 trillion, according to Treasury.
Interestingly enough, the 2012 shortfall is actually lower than the Obama administration had originally anticipated.
Included in the Treasury’s announcement was a call from Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner for Congress to support for the president’s plans to reduce the deficit:
The President has put forward a balanced proposal to further strengthen the economy and reduce the country’s future deficits. It is time for Congress to act on these necessary steps that will help create sustainable economic growth for years to come.
And from OMB Deputy Director for Management Zients:
The path forward on deficit reduction is clear. Congress needs to work with the Administration to enact balanced deficit reduction that includes further spending cuts and additional revenue from asking the wealthiest to contribute their fair share. This deficit reduction can and must be achieved without sacrificing investments in education, infrastructure, and research and development that are so critical to creating jobs and securing our Nation’s long-term economic growth and competitiveness.

Posted on October 14, 2012 at 10:19pmRomney said Obama doubled the deficit during his presidential debate with Obama:
During the first presidential debate in Denver, Mitt Romney took President Barack Obama to task for his record on the deficit.
“The president said he’d cut the deficit in half,” Romney said. “Unfortunately, he doubled it.”
We already ruled the first half of this statement True, noting that Obama said on Feb. 23, 2009, “Today I am pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office.”
But what about Romney’s second claim, that Obama “doubled” the deficit he inherited?
Romney is way off.
The above is from an article from Politifact. It seems to me Romney will say anything to get elected.

The Ryan budget does not balance until 2040 (and that is calculated using the same rosy scenarios for growth and interest rates that Obama uses for his budget). Romney will be 95 in 2040… Ryan will be in his 70s. Ryan’s budget is meaningless. It cuts nothing. It continues to grow government.
Having said that, yes, Obama and Biden are worse. Vote for Romney, but don’t expect big change.

Posted on October 12, 2012 at 8:25pmWe can survive this crushing National Debt, painful as it will be for many generations to come, IF we Americans throw the TRAITOR out of the White House in November. My big concern is…….How many Americans will die in this country, on our streets, when Obama’s friends, the Muslim Brotherhood, attack US ? How do you fight a cowardly evil enemy who straps a bomb to himself / herself to blow up a crowed public Business ? How do you fight a cowardly evil enemy who plants IED’s everywhere and runs ? How do you fight a cowardly evil enemy who does not stand out, by dressing as we Americans do, acting like we Americans do until the fateful hour comes to unleash hell on US ?
All the world was stunned on 911. As Glen Beck thinks, i too think that when this evil “Civilization Jihad” happens it will make 911 look like a friendly Picnic. It seems to me our Hero’s have all gone. No more John Wayne. No more Ronald Reagan. No more morals, principles or honesty. Nothing left but complete corruption. Nothing left but to kill one another over Religion. I have no more faith in “OUR GOVERNMENT”. Only faith in Americans when times get really, really bad to come together as one. But, when every street and small town in America will look like the streets of Iraq and the sandy trails of Afghanistan when this next attack happens and our streets, towns and cities look just like the war ravaged towns and cities of the mid-east, how do you “WIN” a war like that against such cowardly evil ?

Posted on October 12, 2012 at 7:51pmAgreed, spending cuts are a necessary part of the mix to cut the deficits. But increasing income by putting people back to work in the private sector is another component that must occur. Romney and Ryan are proposing a plan that will dramatically improve both of these aspects. Not by some grand government progrom (The spelling is intentional. Look the word up in your dictionary if you do not understand the significance.) but by tried and proved methods of incresing the amount of domestically produced energy which will put a lot of people to work and bring huge amounts of income to the government(s), repealing the extremely expensive and job killing Affordable Health Care Act, reducing the number of duplicative programs, and transfering programs to the states to name a few. Protest votes for some other candidate may be emotionally satisfying but this is not the time.

There are many things at play. You must have skipped the primary and convention, where the establishment flexed their muscles and slapped down the tea party and grassroots. IF we are going to save this country – it can only be done with a non-progressive. We can ONLY get a non-progressive if the establishment types in the republican party are removed or diminished.
