Gary Johnson Slams Romney Policy: ‘Without One Molecule of Brain’

Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate for president, addresses an audience of students and the public at Macalester College, Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 in St. Paul, Minn. (AP File Photo)
Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson spoke with Salon recently about his candidacy for president, slamming his competitors for a number of their political positions.
After explaining a number of things he would have done differently over the past four years, Johnson gave his analysis of the presidential debates:
So I think big differences between me and these two guys [Obama and Romney]: They’re on stage debating who’s going to spend more money on Medicare when we have to slash Medicare spending or we’re going to find ourselves with no health care at all for those over 65. And Medicare, very quickly, is a benefit that we put $30,000 in and get $100,000 out. It’s not sustainable and it has to be addressed. None of this is sustainable. None of it. I think we all recognize that we’re in deep trouble and we’re going to need to make some mutual sacrifices on all of our parts. But I just saw the whole debate thing as head in the sand, Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy — they’re all coming, don’t worry. [Emphasis added]
Though he was included in one of the GOP primary debates, Johnson also criticized Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s support of a border fence between the United States and Mexico:
I mean Romney, in the second [GOP primary] debate, said that it’s a ‘no brainer’ to build a fence across the border. Um…you’re talking about somebody right now without one molecule of brain based on his statement. Building a fence across the border would be wacky nuts! And here it is — that’s what he wants to do.
Johnson didn’t elaborate on why the plan is “wacky nuts,” but continued to say President Obama should also “lose all of his votes” for going back on his promise not to crack down on marijuana.
According to his website, Johnson’s immigration plan has two components– simplifying legal immigration and tackling illegal immigration. However, rather than advocate a fence of some sort, Johnson recommends legalizing marijuana and enforcing a “one strike, you’re out” rule for immigrants who “circumvent the streamlined work visa process.”
Johnson concluded with a statement on President Obama: “He is as militaristic as President Bush, as militaristic a president as we have ever had.”
Gary Johnson is currently polling at around 6%.

There is a slightly entertaining video on youtube showing two teenage girls of mild athletic ability climbing a section of our border fence that looks quite formidable in under 20 seconds. You cannot cage human beings in a free world. You simply cannot do it. Sure, you can cage a few in high security areas where they are subjected to shackling and non-stop cavity searches, but even then they sometimes slip through. A border fence is a waste of money. A virtual fence – thermal, night vision, and visible light cameras on 1000 foot poles – that’s the answer. You can cover miles at a time remotely, and dispatch the authorities to a certain sector of interest at any time.

I actually had a guy arguing that most conservatives weren’t religious altruists on the Ron Paul thread. I mean empathy is fine and all, but the state is incompetent, and the current system is nothing but inexpedient, theft and redistribution. Not to mention progressive and unconstitutional. Can you tell me how ripping off the younger generation to pay for the older generation that was duped and ripped off is any different then taking money from the wealthy and giving it to the poor? Should we start a government program to tax people and give their money to people that were robbed? Well let’s see as a nation we tell people it’s wrong to steal, kill, even lie under certain conditions (under oath). We tell people it’s wrong to park where they shouldn’t or drive down the wrong side of the road. Some of these things get a slap on the wrist like smoking pot for instance. I can’t say I know of anyone who gets thrown in jail for 20 yrs to life for simple possession, more like some probation time and some fines. However those who are carrying around a large amount has the intent to distribute and carries larger punishments. But we as a people for the order and sanity of the majority of this nation tell others, no we do not want that type of behavior here. It’s not acceptable. Therefore regardless if you’re religious or not we as a nation do tell others what they can or can’t do based upon our beliefs. A better example? We tell those of the Islamic faith that no, you cannot bring sharia here, you have to abide by our laws. We have laws that “impose our beliefs” on other people but that’s for the betterment of the entire nation, to keep order.

Stealing, killing, and those things violate others rights and or causes damage. Smoking pot, like smoking a cigarette, is none of your business and doesn’t harm anyone. While you may not like it you or anyone else have zero right to tell me that I can or cannot use it. Unless you can tell me how someone smoking some pot in their home and or growing it warrants dozens of highly armed SWAT officers kicking down there door? The laws on drugs actually CAUSE the violence due to the effect of the black market.

You need to be able to lie and tell people you will make it all better sans sacrifice. Romney, Obama… both want to convince us we can continue with the status quo while expanding gubment and not addressing entitlements. The cardinal sin of politics is telling the truth. Voters don’t wanna hear the truth; they want soothing lies. The partisans will ALL happily dog pile on you and like-minded realists to prove how cool and informed they are… oh, and to also in desparation so as to cling to their turn at the trough. To hell with the future. Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security cannot mathematically continue to exist. But, hey, let’s not hurt anybody’s feelings with the truth.

Next, I will die before I vote for either of Romney or Obama. Your logic doesn’t work, if Obama is winning then a third party vote is a vote for him. What is Romney is winning is your vote then for Romney. Saying that a vote is for someone else is Duopoly ********. It just leads to a downward spiral in voting and makes politicians do the same. Third party votes matter because they can get your party funding in the next election and keep them on the ballot with a lot less work. Lastly when people say that this election is to important to vote for third party is rediculous. Then it is always to important every election. Don’t be a coward, vote with conviction that your candidate is the best candidate period.

Been a while since I took thermodynamics, but I would say that your mistake was more factual than social. The energy used for the liquid-gas phase shift does not cause a drop in TEMPERATURE, but a drop in ENTHALPY. But I have not looked at a Molliere table in about 3 decades. Posted on October 14, 2012 at 8:09pmLet’s point out a few inconvenient facts that Governor Johnson doesn’t want to talk about.
Such as the fact that in 1995, the year Gary Johnson became Governor, the State of New Mexico spent a total of $8.1 billion; $4.4 billion at the State Government level, $3.7 billion locally.
In 2003, the year he left office, the State spent $7.7 billion and local governments $5.7 billion, for a total of $13.4 billion.
Population went from 1.7 to 1.9 million over the same period.
The alleged Governor Veto wants you to believe he slashed spending and is a model of fiscal restraint. The truth is that state level spending increased by about 7.5% annually over his eight-year term. County and local governments did a better job of restraining spending; their spending advanced by “just” 6.5% annually during the same period.
Population advanced by about 12% over the same period, so don’t let Governor Liar tell you this was all population increase; the facts are that he spent 75% more the year he left office than was spent the year he entered it.
Much-more-damning, State GDP went up by 38% during the same period, so in point of fact Governor Fraud advanced state spending twice as quickly as the economy of his state grew in size.
The coup-de-grace though is that State Debt was $1.8 billion in 1995 when Johnson took office. In 2003, when he left, it was a stunning $4.6 billion, or 155% higher.

Posted on October 14, 2012 at 8:13pmThe alleged “Governor Veto” more than doubled New Mexico’s state public debt during his time in office, adding about 12% a year.
For comparison when Obama took office total public debt was about $10.6 trillion… today it is about $16 trillion or better, or 51% higher. That’s about a 12% increase annually.
Attention alleged Libertarians: Governor Johnson expanded New Mexico’s public debt just as quickly during his adminsitration as President Obama has during his and he did so during a monstrous economic boom rather than a time of recession. He has no record to run on when it comes to fiscal restraint… Johnson did just as much damage to New Mexico’s debt profile on a percentage basis as President Obama has nationally!
Governor Johnson is in fact just another big-government progressive that grew spending at twice the rate of the economy of his state and six times as fast as population expanded. He more than doubled the State’s public debt load.
He in fact expanded New Mexico’s public debt at a rate approximately equal to that of President Obama.
And all of that government expansion came during the “meat” of the tech and Nasdaq boom, a period during which it was easy to expand the economy faster than the government… if you cared about such things.

Posted on October 14, 2012 at 8:26pmHere’s one theory that explains Johnson (just as it did Ron Paul) — he’s angry and, like all who aspire to a position in high office, at least a bit full of himself. Narcissist personalities are part and parcel of high office; you have to tolerate being jacked with for years to obtain the office, and only someone who really likes abusing other people will put up with it. When we Republicans kicked him to the curb like Ron Paul… he decided to get even and found a bunch of willing dupes who were too greedy and inexperienced to realize that they were being played… the Libertarians. He dangled the carrot of “averred success” in front of them and they chomped on his claim of being a “smaller government” guy who had actually cut the size of government under his administration without taking the five minutes to determine that he was lying to them… the Libertarian delegates swallowed hook, line and sinker.
Johnson’s goal at this point is to destroy the Republican Party just like Ron Paul in this election and avenge being told to hit the road.

Posted on October 14, 2012 at 8:43pmOkay SOY…. let’s continue..
So what’s this pot head really about?
We know what he’s not about… he’s not about cutting the size of government, as under his administration government expanded in size more than six times faster than the population expanded in his state and double the rate of State GDP growth. County and local government agencies under Johnson’s administration did a better job of controlling spending (which isn’t saying much) than he did.
And yet Johnson claims from the stump he is going to slash the size of the Federal Government and get it out of your life.
Or is he? He’s not going to get government out of your life when it comes to marriage… he wants to increase that involvement, by shoving the government’s nose in the bedroom of gay people to go along with all the straight couples that are already being abused by big government.
In short SOY… Johnson is a liar on all counts. He never reduced spending, he never got the government out of your life, he in fact presided over a 75% expansion in the size of state government in New Mexico which grossly exceeded both GDP and population growth.
Worse, he expanded State Government debt at a rate approximately equal to that of President Obama.
Those are the rather inconvenient facts.

I do not drink or smoke. But the Constitution does not authorize the federal government to ban drugs or declare a war on them. This is an issue clearly within the boundary of the 9th and 10th amendment (state’s rights). Conservatives need to be consistent and apply the Constitution in ALL cases – not just the ones they like. Until they do, they are hypocrites
If you think the federal government exists to outlaw and mold society into the way you want it to – then you are no different than the liberal progressives

Constitutional amendment? Ron Paul doesn’t care about constitutional amendments.
No one in Congress does. If Ron Paul cared about constitutional amendments then he would have spoken out against Obama’s Jobs Bill and what page 133 said.
Dr. Paul was just as silent about page 133 as the rest of the Congress.
You see, I do read those pesky Bills. Go ahead….. read page 133 for yourself. Sec 376 “Federal and State Immunity”. (a) Abrogation of State Immunity” under the 11th Amendment of the Constitution.
Also, why didn’t a single Congressman speak out about the White House writing Bills that require funding or any Bill for that matter? The House controls the purse strings.
Please read it and give me your opinion. TIA
