Here Are 11 Incredible Pictures From Sunday’s Edge-of-Space Skydive
For months TheBlaze has been talking about Felix Baumgartner and his anticipated, record-breaking skydive from the edges of space, for which he has been preparing himself for the last five years. After the stratosphere jump was delayed due to weather concerns in the New Mexico last week, Baumgartner successfully (and safely) took on the challenge Sunday.
Here is the stats breakdown of his Red Bull Stratos project jump and accomplishments:
-
Highest jump
Fastest ever free fall
Highest manned balloon flight
Although the numbers are impressive, the pictures show the what the stats simply can’t. Here are some of the best images:
If you haven’t seen the completed mission yet, take a look at this version condensed into a minute and a half:
This CBS report of the fall has audio from Baumgartner sharing his thoughts after the jump. He says, “You become so humble, you do not think about breaking records anymore.” Watch the clip:
As a bonus video, a clever LEGO builder has already recreated Baumgartner’s jump at a 1:350 scale. Watch the miniature, block version of the jump (via io9):

Posted on October 15, 2012 at 11:35amThis looks like a huge win for the free market to me. No government to stifle this achievement.
The statists are probably fuming about the lack of federal regulation on this jump, not to mention the lack of union employees to siphon money back to the democratic party.

That last video was hilarious. I’m surprised the Obama admin doesn’t use that last video and take credit for his successful jump. Everything they do is fake, phoney, lies so that Lego video would be perfect for this regime.

Posted on October 15, 2012 at 10:46amCongratulations Felix Baumgartner for a successful event that was much appreciated for its bravery, skill, and ingenuity. NASA use to inspire Americans like this but we know who turned it into a social program an now you they to come seeking theses guy for technical advice. I can hear Obama now, “you didn’t make that jump, some one help you, some union teacher along the way”; Haa!

Posted on October 15, 2012 at 10:43amYou know I watched the whole thing. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole thing. It even brought back memories when SputNik was launched and they would tell you on the radio when you could look for it in the night sky, and then laying in the dirt looking up a finally spotting it. That was the real beginning of our own space program over the last 60 years and what an incredible journey it’s been. I could care not who sponsored it, Nor do I care why he did it. Why do people climb mountains or race cars? The reason is because they can. Good for him and good for Red Bull and others for their efforts. Hooo Raaaaa.

Posted on October 15, 2012 at 9:58amThis is the attitude that is ruining America. Someone actually has the sack to do something extrodinary, and most people just look and say “whatever” We were once a county that would take risks, that would go out into the unknown and not like back. We are a failing county not be cause we do not do things anymore, but because we lack the will to do them.

Posted on October 15, 2012 at 8:41pmFear, cynicism and uncertainty…the tools of your oppressors.
With the rise of collectivism comes the fall of incentive as well as the admiration of achievement.
Why try? The masses are you going to envy you/hate you, and then they will vote into power those who will vilify you and take the reward from you.
There’s the expression: “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.” Well, we’re presently losing the best part of this country. That fine edge that is a direct result of human freedom. The very things that caused people to to think in terms of “American exceptionalism”. It wasn’t genetics, or this plot of land, it was FREEDOM that made this collection of human beings great.
This is the saddest part of all that we are witnessing.
Once that “fine edge” goes, then we’re on to the really ugly stuff, folks. Take our confidence, take our country, take our lives.
The opportunity cost of collectivism is immeasurable–a very real species-level tragedy in the making.
Americans had better wake up to what is just around the corner, ACT accordingly, and do it NOW.
Bravissimo, Felix!
