Liberal Professor: Romney Is Successful Because He’s White
Since Mitt Romney’s sudden, abrupt turnaround after the first Presidential debate, Democrats have rushed to analyze the reasons behind President Obama’s performance. And curiously, given the Left’s prior obsession with this issue, one factor that has remained all but completely ignored is the question of racism.
Now, that silence has been broken by a professor at the University of Rochester named Stephanie Li. Li has argued in a Huffington Post article posted today that Romney’s success in life is based on “privilege” – specifically, privilege based on Romney’s skin color, though not exclusively:
The Romney’s [sic] shortsightedness on this issue demonstrates their ignorance of one of the central ideas in the field of critical race studies, the unearned privileges accorded to whiteness. In her foundational essay, “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack,” Peggy McIntosh likens whiteness to “an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools and blank checks.” McIntosh goes on to list dozens of ways in which her whiteness provides her with greater degrees of social validation, convenience, comfort, safety and opportunity. She enumerates how because of her whiteness she “can be sure that if I ask to talk to ‘the person in charge’ I will be facing a person of my race” and “Whether I use checks, credit cards, or cash, I can count on my skin color not to work against the appearance of financial reliability.” Read by countless high school and college students every year, McIntosh’s essay is a classic in understanding how whiteness, with its close associations to financial stability, remains an invisible standard in American society. Critical race studies has elucidated the ways in which all Americans are impacted by their racial identities, and how whiteness is not a universal model of being, but instead a specific social construction.
Romney truly is the whitest man to run for president because he doesn’t realize how his whiteness has influenced his life and how his class standing provided him with remarkable educational and financial opportunities. Instead he explains in the leaked video, “I was born with a silver spoon, which is the greatest gift you could have, which is to get born in America.” Romney’s blindness to his own racial and class privilege feeds into the myth of meritocracy, the false illusion that simply by hard work and steely determination, it is possible to attain the American dream. According to the 2010 census, 40 percent of black children are born into poverty compared to 8 percent of white children. None of these children, black or white, are born with silver spoons.
CampusReform spotted this racially focused op ed and blew the whistle on it. It is consistent with a video released by the liberal organization The Message, which has accused Romney of being “so white [he] makes Wonderbreak look like Pumpernickel.”
Also, the article’s citation of “Critical Race Studies” evinces an ideological predisposition that may have been held by the President himself, who famously hugged – and gave a speech supporting – Critical Race Theorist Derrick Bell during his time at Harvard Law School. It is probably that the President has moved on from this way of thinking since his law school days, it is instructive to know just what Barack Obama as a Law School student might have thought of his fellow Harvard alumnus Mitt Romney. Moreover, this information may provide some clues as to why Obama in the present day might view Romney with such well-publicized contempt.

I agree with DEVILDOG. But social workers, as a professional group, TARGET homeschoolers for vigilant state oversight! The homeschooler is not subject to the unrelenting white-bashing and social engineering like Professor Li is exhibiting. Currently theBlaze censors 4 out of every 5 of my posts, so I will refrain from the more colorful rhetoric that I have used to grab your attention in the past, but let me still ask you –Do you still feel omnipotent? Do you still feel that you can ignore people like Professor Li, just because you are white? You WILL BE destroyed by angry minorities like Professor Li if you do not do something to stop the momentum they have seized. Homeschooling WILL BE MADE ILLEGAL if you allow this sort of filth to go unchecked. Please, read “Culture of Critique” by Dr Kevin MacDonald. The fact that this condemnation of Romney as a racist is coming from an Asian, female, minority at a “baby-ivy” institution is NO ACCIDENT. It is a deliberately engineered delivery of the RACIST “scarlet letter”. And if you yourself are an Asian minority, do you really want Prof Li to be your new face of Asian America?

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 8:09amWhen I was in graduate school, I took some classes with teachers pursuing master’s degrees in education. Let me tell you, those were some of the dumbest folks I’d ever seen. They whined & complained about setting up an experiment & how it was “too hard” to figure out the formula for how to come up with the statistics for the experiment. We didn’t have to actually do the experiment or the statistics for it (which I was required to do in my undergrad in psych), just explain the process & give the formulas we would use.
As far as “white privilege”, that’s a progressive term they came up with to control people. I got an e-mail not too long ago about a conference & guess what…now there’s “heterosexual privilege”, imagine that.

That many whites with better job records are passed over for promotion to meet those same quotas, the many whites never get the chance to start a business or buy a home inspite of having a better business plan or means to pay back loans than their minorty counterparts. THIS ISN’T AN INVISIBLE NAPSACK THIS IS ACTUAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS STACKED AGAINST WHITE MEN……
Would I as a professor be allowed to teach this to student even with the physical evidence and case evidence to actually back my argument.
But thyis racist professor can argument and teach her invisible evidence claims and the school does nothing. Time to close down the entire public and federal funded educational system.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 3:44pmAll of this misses the simple truth, you have a class of people BELIEVING this about another ‘class’ of people. The ‘victim’ class proclaims the other class as racist and automatically priviledged, while the ‘accused’ class just says ‘not us!’. There is only one way to break this cycle, prove that meritocracy DOES work and is not a ‘myth’. The victims will never believe it, but victims will always feel victimized- no matter what the truth is. You don’t aim to convince them, you aim to stop more victims from being created. Eventually victimization will die out and you will be left with people that believe in themselves and in others again.
So, don’t worry about homeschool, teach your kids, friends and everyone what personal responsibility and work can accomplish. The victim complex will go away all by itself. ACHIEVE!

Forget the plastic surgery…go for the “whitening”. Anyone who feels they are too dark qualifies for the whitening. Now everyone who wants is white and equal. Would things be different? What is this obsession about white skin? I happen to be dark skinned but not black . I like my skin color. I didn’t know there was a difference in color until someone told me. Children are color-blind until someone tells them different.
Why is it that so many 3rd world countries have different living standards than Americans, Europeans, Australians, Netherlands, Japanese, etc? For example, why are so many Africans, Haitians, Iranians, Iraqis, Mexicans, etc…so far behind in they’re development that they can barely feed themselves, and they all want to move to “white countries”? Does it really have to do with color (ie, genetics)??? What confounds me the most is that when these under developed country folks do come to “white countries”…they want to have the same living standards as these more evolved countries…but want to keep their same laws and lifestyles? This does not make sense to me. If you want for example the “American Dream” wouldn’t you behave as the Americans, or copy what they did to “get there”? Why do poor people hate rich people? Why not just spend that energy and copy them?

A friend told me that I was racist because I had made a nice comment about a black waitress at our table. She was very lovely. He looked at me and called me a racist. I almost fell out of my chair and thought he was joking. He just stared at me. We were with a group of co-workers. He was the only black person at the table. I think everyone at the table felt the same way, and wanted to yell, “FOUL”. But, oddly enough, we all turned to this guy and stared at him – never saying a word – just a blank stare. You could tell he was so uncomfortable and I think, he was beginning to feel foolish about what he said.
When we got back to the office, he did come over and apologize and I asked him why he said it. He couldn’t tell me why. I told him to stop listening to other people and listen to his heart instead.
We are still friends and he never said that again. In fact, I think he avoids such things.
All I can say is my friend has GREAT CHARACTER. For one, he apologized. Two, he learned something that day at lunch: never yell racist in an all white group. (just kidding).
Since that time, as we have talked, I have learned how hard it had been for him growing up, in a rough neighborhood. But I told him that he got out ON HIS OWN. Be proud! Do not l

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 12:05amI agree. The “American Dream” means the OPPORTUNITY to succeed, no more. It’s evident by all of the immigrants who’ve come here and succeeded. It didn’t matter their color or country. What mattered was their gumption, determination, character, and work ethic. Plenty of black Americans have succeeded just as Romney has: Herman Cain, Frederick Douglass, Adam West, etc., etc. Even Obama “succeeded”. How do they explain that? Or can’t they? It does seem from all the secrets which are suspected, that maybe, just maybe, he DIDN’T succeed through the American Dream. If he worked hard and EARNED admission to those fancy colleges, why isn’t he proud, as most people would be, to share his grades and accomplishments? This is why I don’t like Affirmative Action. It may have been somewhat helpful at first, but by going on for so long, it makes people question whether the minority really EARNED his success or was “gifted” through to his/her current “success”. That’s not at all fair to those who really did all of the work and had the character, etc. They’re lumped in with the “giftees”. They have to work even harder to prove they’re worth it, and they’re always under suspicion. I’m tired of victims, of racism, and of Affirmative Action. No one but the truly disabled should get stuff without working for it in whatever way they can.
