‘Real News:’ Ohio and the Catholic Vote
With the presidential campaign coming to an end in just a three weeks, Ohio has emerged as what appears to be this election’s key battleground state. One constituency that is often classified as a swing vote across the country, and of key importance in Ohio, is the Catholic vote. In 2004 they went to George W. Bush, 2008 Barack Obama, and in 2012, with two Catholics on the ticket for the first time; discussion on the influence of faith in each vice presidential candidate’s daily life has been prevalent on the campaign trail.
Will the quarter of Ohio’s voting population that is Catholic focus on pro-life and religious liberty issues that will help Republicans, or the social justice plank that benefits Democrats?
King’s College Associate Professor of History Joseph Loconte joined “Real News” Monday to discuss the competing political ideologies within the Catholic-American community, and whether each vice presidential candidate is accurate when claiming how their faith influences their daily life:

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 6:16pmMatthew:12:30:He that is not with me is against me –
In vain do men seek for methods to reconcile God and mammon. There is no medium between loving the Lord and being his enemy – between belonging to Christ or to Satan. If we be on the side of the devil, we must expect to go to the devil’s hell; if we be on the side of Christ, we may expect to go to his heaven. When Christ, his truth, and his servants are assaulted, he who does not espouse their cause is not on Christ’s side, but incurs the guilt of deserting and betraying him. There are many, (it is to be feared), in the world who are really against Christ, and scatter abroad, who flatter themselves that they are workers together with him, and of the number of his friends!

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 6:39amI cannot believe the hypocrisy in the Catholic church. My son-in-law’s Catholic family (not him, I think)voted for Obama in most cases in ’08. His grand-mom is a Democrat…..period!
NO Catholic should should step foot in a Catholic church if they voted for this president. They make a mockery of their religion. Either you believe in abortion, or you do not. No middle ground is allowed on this for Catholic’s .
Catholic’s have other problem’s, such as the pedophile priest’s they covered up for so long. It is no wonder to me that so many Catholic schools and parishes are shrinking. The Catholic faith has completely lost it’s way. The numbers of those closed schools and shrinking parishes tell a story, and that story is that the Catholic faith is a weak faith.
Same thing for Methodist’s and all other religious sect’s. I stopped attending organized religion 35 years ago because of hipocrisy.
Help re-elect this president, Catholics, and thing things will become much clearer for you 4 years from now.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 8:58amTHE FIVE NON-NEGOTIABLES
These five issues are called non-negotiable because they concern actions that are always morally wrong and must never be promoted by the law.
1. Abortion
The Church teaches that, regarding a law permitting abortions, it is “never licit to obey it, or to take part in a propaganda campaign in favor of such a law, or to vote for it” . Abortion is the intentional and direct killing of an innocent human being, and therefore it is a form of homicide.
The child is always an innocent party, and no law may permit the taking of his life. Even when a child is conceived through rape or incest, the fault is not the child’s, who should not suffer death for others’ sins.
2. Euthanasia
Often disguised by the name “mercy killing,” euthanasia also is a form of homicide. No one has a right to take his own life (suicide), and no one has the right to take the life of any innocent person.
In euthanasia, the ill or elderly are killed out of a misplaced sense of compassion, but true compassion cannot include doing something intrinsically evil to another person.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 8:59am3. Fetal Stem Cell Research
Human embryos are human beings. “Respect for the dignity of the human being excludes all experimental manipulation or exploitation of the human embryo”.
Recent scientific advances show that any medical cure that might arise from experimentation on fetal stem cells can be developed by using adult stem cells instead. Adult stem cells can be obtained without doing harm to the adults from whom they come. Thus there no longer is a medical argument in favor of using fetal stem cells.
4. Human Cloning
“Attempts . . . for obtaining a human being without any connection with sexuality through ‘twin fission,’ cloning, or parthenogenesis are to be considered contrary to the moral law, since they are in opposition to the dignity both of human procreation and of the conjugal union” .
Human cloning also ends up being a form of homicide because the “rejected” or “unsuccessful” clones are destroyed, yet each clone is a human being.
5. Homosexual “Marriage”
True marriage is the union of one man and one woman. Legal recognition of any other form of “marriage” undermines true marriage, and legal recognition of homosexual unions actually does homosexual persons a disfavor by encouraging them to persist in what is an objectively immoral arrangement.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 2:04amThe Pope could rid our great country of this great evil (Soetoro) with the following statement. All Catholic schools and hospitals will be shut down immediately if the current president is reelected. We cannot and will not abide by the Obama mandate that requires us to sin. Also it is about time that all humans must stand against the great evil that allows mother’s to murder thier children. Anyone that votes for people who support this practice are no longer tolerated by this church. God bless us and the United States of America!!

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 7:11amPapakano,
Total eradication of thousands of schools where prayer is a priority would be a very happy result for the present administration…….but I don’t think it would help get Barry voted out.
Catholics who are voting for Obama would just be even less faithful after such a move. It would give them just another reason to complain about their faith and live exactly as it suits them while still receiving the sacraments when it suits them.
The Catholics who will vote to get Barry out this election understand why, and the closing of schools and hospitals would not change their vote either.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 7:16amBiden (a Catholic) defended abortion during the debate if front of 50 million people. If the Pope won’t condemn that, he won’t get involved in religious liberty issues in the U.S.. It’s sad.
