White House Planning Military Strike Over Libya Terrorist Attack?

The Associated Press reports that the Obama administration is considering a military strike on Libya over the 9/11 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. The report has not been confirmed by the White House.

From the AP:

Administration officials say the White House has put special operations strike forces on standby and moved drones into the skies above Africa, ready to hit militant targets from Libya to Mali, if U.S. investigators can find the al-Qaida-linked group responsible for the death of the U.S. ambassador in Libya.

But the officials say the administration also is weighing whether the short-term payoff of being able to claim retribution against al-Qaida is worth the risk that such strikes would be ineffective and rile governments in the region.

Details were provided by three current and one former administration official, as well as an analyst who was approached by the White House for help. All four spoke only on condition of anonymity.

The Department of Justice said the White House continues to “monitor the situation closely” and the agency is “ready” to respond if a strike is ordered by the president. However, a DoD spokesman stopped short of confirming that a strike is imminent or is being planned.

“The investigation is on-going and we have nothing new right now. As [Pentagon spokesman] George Little has briefed recently, the DoD continues to monitor the situation closely and we are ready to respond with additional military measures when directed by the president,” Department of Defense spokesman Robert Firman told Politico.

      Beat me to the aspirin factory analogy FORWARD. I am wondering what he could bomb though? It sounds like terrorists came over from Egypt into Benghazi. He will be hard pressed to convince the public that his new baby in the MB running Egypt is somehow tied to this.

      Managing a war not leading it. There is a time for SOF and this is not one of them, we want the Islamic government to pick a side so we know who we are up against so force that decesion.

      Does anyone know what military units that Reagan was going to use if Iran did not release our hostages? It was not Delta, I think the hammer was going to be a little bigger.

      If you knew within 24 hours that it was not a riot then hold the government of Libya accountable for the security around our embassy. If Libya wants to be treated like a big boy government and not coconsperators then hold their feet to the fire. They are coconspirtors for not stopping it. Flatten Bengahzi, (we have fire bombed cities before) then look at Egypt and ask them how is the security around our embassy?

      Does everyone understand the strategic importance of energy independence form the middle east. It provides freedom of manuever. All the Islamic nuts become those countries problems. They keep them under control or suffer.

      TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE!! By now the perps are scattered over all N. Africa. It will be like tracking one ant in the entire colony.

      Retaliation should have been swift and decisive, within minutes of the attack. With satelites that can read a newspaper from space, we could have tracked them right back to their ratholes, cruised them and cleaned up the problem. But now, the world is laughing AT us, because of the lies told by the Obama administration.

      The Libyan people staged an anti-militant protest days after the attack. If Obama screws this up and innocent people are killed there the U.S. will lose that groundswell of support in Libya. But the Indonesian Prince doesn’t care about things like that..he only cares about appearances during an election year.

    The weekend before the election would be good to deliver a “devastating” blow to the demonstrators, I mean terrorists, who killed our unguarded ambassador. That plus the “good news” on Friday, November 2, that unemployment dropped another .3 to .5% would help drag Obama over the finish line.

    When it is later revealed they did not get the terrorist responsible for killing our unguarded ambassador and the unemployment numbers are corrected up, oh well.

    You can take the politician out of Chicago, but you can’t take the Chicago out of the politician.

    No, not Libya, its being prepared for the sole reason to try a last, desperate maneuver to give Obama a boost in the polls. I do see him trying to get us into a war in the Middle East for the sake of the elections; in which the terror response promised to us by so many of the Islamist Extremist branches have promised if we do attack, so he will have a reason to suspend the elections.

    This is insane. What we need to do yesterday is to separate our military from our corrupt government. We need to contact all branches of military and let everyone know that the muslim brotherhood has infiltrated our government, our media (since the 1980′s) and that Obama is the muslim brotherhood. We can’t sit around and wait for the muslim brotherhood to tell our military what to do. If any Veterans out there know any current people in the military, please contact them and let them know… as many people as you can. I also believe our military in Afgan are merely being used as targets for the Afgan military… since it appears our own military has not been trained, but instead had the Afgans trained. 2000 plus men have died… and it’s a shame how they want to tell us what is going on, but when their bodies are sent home for burial, their personal computers are wiped clean of their blogs and notes. Sounds fishy to me. Get our military away from our government and sent home because we will soon need them to help protect us.

    A panic move by an administration in free fall over it’s cover-up of the deaths of diplomats in Benghazi. The media tried but they haven’t been able to contain the story. They with the Obama administration’s “blame the movie” angle but it didn’t work.

    Obama has to give the appearance of being a tough guy so as to divert attention from his administration’s gross mishandling of the security of the mission in Benghazi. The consulate begged for security even on the day of the terrorist attack and the white house/state department denied them the security. In fact the pulled security from the embassy.
    And now..after being shamed by Mitt Romney at the first debate, Obama knows Romney will bludgeon him with the debacle in Benghazi at the debate tomorrow..so in typical Obama style he will pretend to be a tough guy after the mishandling which led to four dead Americans in an attempt to divert from this fact. Too little, too late and quite vulgar..but then again..Obama’s not known for his sense of decorum and propiety.
