Strangest or Best Promotion Ever? Iowa Jeweler Giving Free Rifles to Men Who Buy Engagement Rings
(TheBlaze/AP) — Have you spent your life hunting for the perfect wife? Or maybe you have met the one, but are feeling a bit gun shy?
Well, an Iowa jeweler is offering free rifles for husbands-to-be who spend at least $1,999 on an engagement ring at his store near Iowa City.

Jeweler Harold van Beek told KCRG near Cedar Rapids that “in today’s economy– in today’s life– fun is more important than anything else,” so with hunting season coming up they decided to provide a little extra incentive to their clients.
Full of puns, the jewelry store owner joked: “If you want to say I’m hunting dear, then say, here’s [your] diamond ring, dear.”
On a more serious note, he added: “Let’s do something for the boy who doesn’t like to hunt for diamonds, but likes to hunt for deer.”
Watch his entire interview with KCRG, below:
The deal at Jewelry By Harold starts Thursday and will run through the end of October, but Harold promises to be there to make sure none of his clients rush into marriage just for the promotional firearm.
Moreover, the rifle offer is subject to Iowa laws on gun ownership. Felons and addicts are not eligible.
“We just hope that people will know about the crazy jeweler in North Liberty who does crazy things,” Harold van Beek explained.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 8:50pmThis is capitalism. Think of the best gimmick to get people to shop at your store instead of others and you reap the business. I see nothing wrong with this. Best of luck to the business owner & I hope he does great. I also hope the government keeps their big, stinking, ugly nose out of this owner’s business. Hopefully the rifles are good ones, not some cheap Chinese piece of shu ma nyaow.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 11:29amHmm… I have all the shotguns I need. Would consider buying a ring if they would provide a coupon for a Smith & Wesson Pre Model 29 .44 magnum revolver or something like it.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 7:28pmActually, a Remington Model 870 is a shotgun. They mistakenly called it a rifle in the article, though. In the video, they called it both a shotgun and a rifle.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 10:44amGiven the way the current administration is attacking the marrage of one man and one woman, perhaps the jeweler should be offering free his and hers defensive rifles.
On another note, while I find it sad that the jouralist is unable to tell the difference between a rifle and a shotgun, at least he didn’t do like most in the media who call all firearms AK-47s.

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 10:06amFelons and addicts are not eligible. I believe in Arizona(?), if you’re behind on your child-support payments, you’re ineligible. Pretty soon, if you’re registered a this or that, or if you’re over-weight, or if you post on The Blaze, you’ll be ineligible.
This all started because decent folks sat on their arses when the gobblement got on the case of smokers; first it was assigned seating, then it was a ban on public transportation – you know where it’s ending up.
“We” sat on our arses when they “disqualified” felons. Now they’ve added addicts and child support scoflaws. Where will it end? A felon DOES NOT surrender Constitutional Rights for life WITHOUT surrendering CITIZENSHIP. Ergo, if they want to PREVENT crime, the State/Federal gobblements must make the punishment fit the crime, because what they’re telling us by releasing a felon and then telling that felon that he can no longer own a gun, is that they’re releasing someone who is still a menace to society!
Cannot felons never commit a crime again? Cannot an addict break his addiction? Cannot a c/s scoflaw make up the payments? Of course! Life-time ban? Ridiculous and unConstitutional! “F!” the gobblement!
