Candy Crowley: Romney Was ‘Right in the Main’ on Benghazi, But ‘Picked the Wrong Word’ in Debate

Candy Crowley Clarifies Why She Corrected Gov. Romney During Tuesday’s Debate

One of the big moments from Tuesday’s presidential debate between Barack Obama and former Gov. Mitt Romney occurred when moderator Candy Crowley of CNN injected herself into the discussion after Romney accused the president of refusing to refer to the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi as a terrorist act.

“I think (it’s) interesting the president just said something which — which is that on the day after the attack he went into the Rose Garden and said that this was an act of terror,” said Gov. Romney.

“That’s what I said,” the president responded.

“You said in the Rose Garden the day after the attack, it was an act of terror. It was not a spontaneous demonstration, is that what you’re saying?”

“Please proceed, governor.”

“I want to make sure we get that for the record because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror.”

“Get the transcript.”

“It — it — it — he did in fact, sir,” Crowley said, offering the president what looked to be a little debate assistance.

“Can you say that a little louder, Candy?” the president asked confidently.

“He — he did call it an act of terror. It did as well take — it did as well take two weeks or so for the whole idea there being a riot out there about this tape to come out. You are correct about that,” Crowley said.

“This — the administration — the administration indicated this was a reaction to a video and was a spontaneous reaction,” Romney noted.

“It did,” Crowley agreed.

However, not long after the debate, Crowley explained during a CNN interview that Gov. Romney was “right in the main,” but that he used the wrong word:

“I heard the president’s speech at the time. I re-read a lot of stuff about Libya because I knew we’d probably get a Libya question,” Crowley told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

“We knew that the president had said, ‘These acts of terrors won’t stand,’ or whatever the whole quote was. I think, actually, you know, because right after that, I did turn around and say [to Gov. Romney], ‘but you’re totally correct … they spent two weeks telling us this was about a tape and that there was this, you know, riot outside the Benghazi consulate, which there wasn’t.’ So [Gov. Romney] was right in the main. I just think he picked the wrong word.”

Here’s what Obama said the day after the Libya attack in the Rose Garden, according to the transcript:

Of course, yesterday was already a painful day for our nation as we marked the solemn memory of the 9/11 attacks. We mourned with the families who were lost on that day. I visited the graves of troops who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan at the hallowed grounds of Arlington Cemetery, and had the opportunity to say thank you and visit some of our wounded warriors at Walter Reed. And then last night, we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.

As Americans, let us never, ever forget that our freedom is only sustained because there are people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it. Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those both civilian and military who represent us around the globe.

No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.

But we also know that the lives these Americans led stand in stark contrast to those of their attackers. These four Americans stood up for freedom and human dignity. They should give every American great pride in the country that they served, and the hope that our flag represents to people around the globe who also yearn to live in freedom and with dignity.

So while Obama did say “acts of terror” in his first public statement on the attack, Romney is still correct when he says the president blamed a wholly insignificant YouTube video and non-existent protests for the attacks in Libya.

For example, when the president appeared on “The View” on September 25, days after his Rose Garden speech, he blamed the Benghazi assault on an anti-Muslim video.

Furthermore, when asked directly if it was terrorism, he said: “We are still doing an investigation. There’s no doubt that the kind of weapons that were used, the ongoing assault, that it wasn’t just a mob action. Now, we don’t have all the information yet, so we are still gathering it.”

Lastly, multiple Obama administration officials repeatedly blamed the deadly Libya attack on the video for more than a week, including U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

Are you an Idiot? saying an “act of terror” does not have the same legal implications a “terrorist act” or saying “terrorist attack” For example “your children are acting terrorists” or “your children are holy terror” as opposed to “your children are terrorists and no I won’t pitch in to buy them a bomber jacket.”

The Prez didn’t want to classify Ft. Hood as a terrorist attack and got away with calling it “work place violence” with a hint of Allah Akbar and he certainly doesn’t want this to be his second successful terrorist attack. Most of us are not idiots. Get some balls and try honesty.

I thought Candy Crowley was outrageous. She self-destructed last night in front of America. If anyone doubted her adoration for her man, she exposed her lap dog devotion last night. She suppored his lie by stating Obama had called the Benghazi attack an act of terror on 9/12/12. He did not. What a glaring and memorable error. She proved her critics, who were nervous about her bias before the debate, to be spot-on-correct. She should go into hiding.

It surprised me that she just happened to have the transcript of the president’s Rose Garden speech right on her table just waiting for Romney’s response to what happened in Benghazi. It almost looked rehearsed.

Crowley was WAY out of line, injecting her view into the debate. I thought at the time; “There you go! The lamestream media is at it again!”

Regardless of whether Obama said the word “terror” in his rose garden blab, there are countless other examples of administration underlings laying the blame on the movie, and claiming the attack was spontaneous. Both he and Clinton referred directly to the movie after the fact.

As usual, Obama was speaking to the brain dead members of our society, knowing they are ignorant of the facts, and they won’t lift a finger to go back and fact check what he was saying. With him it’s all about theater, a blizzard of words without substance.

Fact is Crowley was wrong and she was not part of the presidential debate. This was a low moment for Mr Obama as the moderator took up for his treasonous act related to the video which got several people killed. Its a fact the Mr Obama carried the video story all the way up until the UN meeting on the 25th as that was the initial purpose. The video comment was directly related to the global hate speech law the UN was considering. What resulted from Mr Obama’s comments about the video were several deaths (including two US Marines) and numerous riots throughout the Middle East. Mr Obama’s comments concerning the video probably did more to set back US – Middle East relations than any event in recent history. He should have known better than to ever make false accusations related to US events on the ground in order to further advance UN global speech control.

Crowley disgraced herself with her meddling in the debate and committed the cardinal sin of every official. She has become the story rather than the actual participants. Of course, I am sure she sees herself as a hero rather than a fool.

Why in the world do republicans continue to allow these admitted left wing loons moderate the debates? Do they expect them to set aside their personal views and prejudices and be fair? Never happens and never will. Crisco (I call Candy that to keep from calling her Lard-ass) should never have been allowed to be on the set. She wanted to be the center of the debate when she should have been just a huge silent potted plant. You know the plant, the Blooming Idiot.

Crowley is just another liberal with that inflated ego that continues to block correct thinking. She was suppose to moderate not become the third debater. These left-wing humanoids are so enthralled with themselves and each other that they actually begin to think that they are the superior race. It was so obvious that Crowley thinks she is smarter than Romney. She became the story before, during and now after the debate. Just what she wanted! She needs to take her inflated ego and use it to sail away. I’m confident there is enough hot air in her to get her to Communist China. She is a disgrace! I predict just the opposite of MSNBC, the polls will continue to move towards Romney as the people of the United States of America are waking up from the deep sleep of “hope and change and yes we can”. The Obama administration is the least ethical group to occupy the White House in our history. We cannot withstand four more years of his “hope and change”. The change we need now is Romney in the White House and Obama back to the Chicago outhouse. He is just another Chicago thug with a big grin. Maybe he and Joe can both become movie stars. They are both such terrific actors. Pray for Romney and for truth to be revealed.

AMEN! I’ve been saying this for some time. If we re-elect Obama, after four years of lying and breaking promises, we deserve what we get! I’ve seen some low life politicians in my time, but this man is by far the lowest of the low. He has utter distain for our constitution, is the king of crony politics, and he hates our country for our “colonialism”. He is a traitor and should be tried and shot.

a common device Obloomers uses is to mention the phrase of an issue, but doesn’t tie it directly to the subject he is talking about. He does this all the time- it is a way to sound like is for something, or not for something, at the same time. It is called being a liar.

It is not that he is smart, he is just a devious creep, that misleads everyone all the time. Been a career for him.

LIAR. “Candy” Crowley? pfft. prog/lib/marxist dunce. Take NAYONE from across the USA and they would be more neutral, which is what is required.

WHY DO WE PUT UP with progs interviewing progs, with the outcome and answers tio questions known in advance, and then they play the game that it was “news”???

SHAM. BS. I would say unfair, but it is more than that. It is the rotten tactics of sick individuals who will stop at nothing to get their agenda done. Case in point – Obloomers.

Crowley was dead wrong about her assertion that Obama called Benghazi an act of terror in his Rose Garden speech, and here’s why: Obama was speaking of the ORIGINAL 9/11 attack when he mentioned an act of “terror”. He then went on to speak of the Benghazi attack by by saying, “Today we mourn four more Americans…” with emphasis on “more” to delineate that now he was speaking of Benghazi. In CNN’s post debate show they deliberately played the Rose Garden “terror” comment WITHOUT the prefacing comments showing that he was speaking of the original 9/11 attack!

(BTW: Someone should let CNN know they’ve got a Communist on their panel.)
