Chris Matthews: Romney Doesnt Understand the Constitution Because he Looks Down on Obama

During his show on Wednesday, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews critiqued the debate performances of President Barack Obama and his GOP rival Mitt Romney. While the host thought the president won the debate decisively, he couldn’t believe that Romney could “look down” on the president, who according to his guest, actor James Lipton, became a “hero” during the debate.

“It was the face off in ‘High Noon.’ And the President of the United States was Gary Cooper.” Lipton said. “At that moment, he became a hero, I think”

Lipton referred to Obama as a president and Romney as a “boss,” saying that “job creator is a euphemism for profit creator.”

Matthews later played a clip of the memorable exchange between Romney and Obama over permits for energy exploration on federal land, which are down over the last four years. As Obama attempted to interrupt Romney, he told the president “you’ll get your chance” to talk.

“I don’t think he understands the Constitution of the United States…He’s the President of the United States. You don’t say, ‘you’ll get your chance,’” Matthews said.

Lipton added: “If Mitt Romney were the president and Barack Obama were the challenger, and these roles were reversed, and Obama treated Romney – the president in this construct – the way he was treated, you would have heard an outcry from coast to coast and you would never, ever hear the end of it…It is rude. It’s inexcusable. I think it’s a very, very sad day when the presidency, which has been under fire since Nixon — and particular this president — can be treated this way by someone who is an American citizen.”

Matthews said it was a “lack of deference” on Romney’s part. “Through it all he looked down at the president…He looked down at him as a person.”

  I am not a Bush fan and would have prefered no Iraq war. But the premise and possbilities and the resolutions and Congress vote, all made it happen. That does’nt give a pass for this admin. Obama can’t claim executive priviledge on Fast and Furious, unless he was directly involved…and that is what he did…he is also providing arms to al quida and hostile Muslim Brotherhood groups. es even appointing them throughout our government.   First of all, I must say that your name suits you. After reading some of your comments, a frothy discharge of the bowels came to mind. You see, your comments are like diarrhea of the mouth or in this case since you aren’t really talking but rather are typing your thoughts, its like diarrhea of the brain.   Secondly, your comment inserted the word ‘reverence’ and that was never used by either Lipton nor Matthews. The actual word you wanted is ‘deference’. I would not offer reverence to any president either. However, I would offer deference to all US presidents as I think that they deserve it. I would even be so bold as to say that I would offer deference to George Dubya Bush if I ever met the man even though on the inside I would still think that Dubya was the stupidest, craziest president that the USA has ever seen.
  
  So now you know the difference between reverence and deference. See, you learned something good today!   In the setting of the debate they (Romney and Obama) are both candidates. Neither one has any more standing than the other. Sounds like Matthews and his little buddy Lipton are seeing that Mitt took control of the debate, again, and schooled the under-qualified Obama, and now they cry foul to claim some disadvantage.

  My family and self all registered Democrats voted for Hope & Change and the man – Obama. We were disappointed when our party bought off Jessie Jackson, but he had no choice when told the party wouldn’t support him. Obama was bought off also and since he is a half breed the Democratic party knew they could put a ring through his nose and lead him around.   Lipton is the host of Inside the Actor’s Studio. So he’s not exactly a great bastion of political or historical thought outside of Hollywood. He knows movies/films and beyond that, probably not much else. That’s why all the examples he gave related to movies. That’s what he knows.
  
  On the topic of the Constitution, Matthews is, as usual, wrong. President or not, he is just a man. To refer to him as anything else would be stupid. Then again, it is Chris Matthews.

  Now, I do not know about much, but I think you, sir, are very confused. You saying religion is a lie and at the same time invoke the sun as your religious center. You speak of Jesus in a way that gives credibility to his Divine existence as well as Lucifer’s. Then contradict yourself in your next post by stating religion is a lie.

  FOR THE LAST TIME, there WAS wmd’s found in Iraq. Good lord people, do some research. We found a warehouse full of mustard gas tipped artillery shells. Probably the same stock pile Saddam used on the Kurds. We also have satellite images of Iraqi convoys of military trucks going to Syria days before we invaded. They weren’t carrying Wal-Mart products.
  
  I know most of you liberals never served so let me educate you. WMD does not mean nuclear weapons alone. That term also includes chemical and biological weapons. Gut what mustard gas is. Also, his nuclear scientists that were captured admitted that Saddam thought his nuke program was farther along than it was because they were lying to him out of fear.
  
  Finally, Saddam violated the cease fire from the 1st Gulf war numerous time thereby giving us every legal justification to adjust him to room temperature. That’s why you “war crimes” nonsense would get laughed out of any court in the free world.

  You nailed it. Tony Balogna, newsflash there isn’t anything in the constitution that says the president must be treated with deference either. The president is a public SERVANT. Get that through your thick head. The constitution limits the government not the people. All you have is unsubstantiated assertions and insults. In any debate, the parties are equal. That is the whole point of the debate. Put them on a LEVEL playing field and let the best man win- which was clearly Romney in both debates. To be deferential to any opponent is an insult to his worthiness as an opponent. No only that, Romney needed to assert himself to get something close to equal time because Candy was clearly part of the MSM shameless bias and she was pulling out all the stops. I actually felt sorry for Obama that she had to stick up for him- even when he was wrong. That is when you know you are losing big. No one cried foul when Gore the bore was rude to Bush. The most ridiculous part of the whole article was the “if the situation was reversed” thing because we all know if the situation were reversed we would never hear the end of how the president had been racist towards his opponent. The left controls are the hysteria lines so it isn’t as if they ever have to worry about “never hearing the end” of anything ever. It also means your messiah Obama will be charged because he never got congressional approval to war in Libya while Bush did get approval. First of all, Chris, Obama is not a King, as much as he thinks he is. Secondly, he is subject to all laws and regulations just like every other US citizen. As such, he is not above or below any other citizen. When he attempts to break the rules, as in this case, he needs to be called on it. His, and Joe Biden’s feeble attempts to interrupt and control the debate through intimidation, were and are contrary to the rules of order and specifically the agreed upon rules for this debate. The only problem with this whole scenario is that the moderator should have been the one to tell BHO to stand down, as she did to Romney. By not doing so, she tainted the whole debate.

  Can’t wait for the election returns. I am confident that if the Romney campaign can keep the issues front and center and not allow the as klounz to distract and intimidate away from the issues that a win is imminent. So with that in mind I would reccommend that conservatives watch the returns on PMSNBC. You won’t be able to purchase a night of comedy anywhere for the price.

I was almost expecting him to say Romney took his toys away from him, Obama acted so childish. Obama has no record to stand on so it has to resort to fear-mongering, saying things like Romney wants to kill grandma or Romney wants dirty water. LOL Carter tried the same thing with Reagan and once the electorate could see it wasn’t true, the campaign fizzled. I think there will be many other illegal orders too but he will attempt to further cripple the U.S. in energy. Seems to be the only thing the Lord of Lies has time for outside of playing golf. What kind of a debate would it be if the President can talk whenever he wants and the opponent just has to be quiet?
