Did Barack Obama Make a Comeback During Last Night’s Debate? (Take the Poll)

President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney faced off in their second debate Tuesday night at Hofstra University in New York. Obama was under pressure to deliver after a widely-panned first debate performance. (Photo: Getty Images)
It was clear that President Barack Obama could not afford any repeat of his lackluster first debate on Tuesday night. With Mitt Romney making steady advances in the polls, the president needed to use their second head-to-head to reverse the dispassionate image he set two weeks ago.
How did he do? Here’s a roundup of what some of the media are saying:
Stopped the bleeding…
NBC “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory:
“I think liberals can breathe a sigh of relief. It’s not curtains for the president. He showed up and showed up big tonight. He was more aggressive; he had a lot of fight in him.”
New York Times news analysis:
Whether it will decisively reroute the course of the campaign remains to be seen, but the president emerged from the encounter having settled nerves within his panicky party and claiming a new chance to frame the race with just three weeks left.
Los Angeles Times news analysis:
“Obama is back in the fight.”
There is likely to be a boost in enthusiasm among Obama loyalists, and that’s not insignificant. Given that some parts of his coalition, young voters in particular, are not as motivated as they were four years ago, that jolt of energy could be important. Obama advisers know that turning out their voters will be harder for them than it will be for Romney’s team.
…but no knockout punch
Obama seemed to come out ahead in the second debate, though not by the emphatic margin that Romney did in the first. Going forward, this outcome probably helps reset the race and steer the national conversation away from theater criticism toward more substantive closing arguments.
Obama’s performance wasn’t flawless and he didn’t score a clean win as Romney did in the first debate. But, he was the better performer this time around.
ABC News analysis:
President Obama’s job was to rev up his flagging base and convince wavering supporters that he actually wants another term. And, he accomplished that with his aggressive performance….Even so, his win is not going to upend the race in the way that Romney’s success at the Denver debate did. Ultimately, this debate is likely to stop what was turning into snowballing momentum for Romney, but we won’t see a similar post-DNC convention surge for Obama either.
So the question becomes, did Obama make a comeback Tuesday night? We pose it to you.

I therefore won’t give my opinion on which candidate I think won or lost. But despite whatever the media and the polls say, the death threats against Mitt Romney in the social media speak loud about Obama’s performance and the fear liberals have of Obama loosing this election.
I only pray God to protect Romney and Ryan and his families. No threat should be taken lightly.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 12:52pmThe Luntz non-partisan focus group assessed the debate better than ANY of the journalists, including Fos News.
They rightly observed that Obama spent much of his time defending his position against a plethora of valid charges all of which revealed him and his administration to be totally incompetent.
This silly measure the press uses to guage debate wins or losses based on how vigorous or aggressive a candidate is is purely nonsense. Using that method, the childish, immature candidate would be a winner everytime, just like Joe Biden who was a complete disaster.
But that’s what radical leftist pundits are all about: Childishness and immaturity, living in a silly fantasy world of their own making.
Obama looked trerribly gaunt, frail-looking, almost anemic, and his facial expressions had him looking really weird and unattractive.
He came across to me as a brown lizard.

Romney was very strong with facts and figures and Obama cannot deny his record or the facts. One thing that really did disgust me was the lie he told about the Benghazi attack. Candy Crowley really went over the line with helping him by saying he was correct. Of course she corrected herself, but it was after the debate was over. Considering the one-sidedness of the media and the moderators, I am surprised that Romney has not been called the anti-christ. I thought he did a marvelous job especially when he said, “We don’t have to settle for this.”

I’m not sure what qualifications are needed (Candy Crowley shows the standards aren’t very high) so I can’t really guess. I’m new to politics, so I don’t know for sure, but from what I can guess, we’ll only be finding out when the next “bipartisan” moderator is.
Romney’s gotta hit the next one out of the part. Praying that Romney stays the gentleman he is in his debate with an angry child, and eloquently grinds him to dust in a polite, but forceful way. Hitting with more lies than Romney could address but most viewers already knew were lies will be Obama’s undoing. Since he lied more this time than the 1st time I have to conclude he did worse even if he did score more points. There’s more to a debate than scoring more points. It’s the way you do it as well and how transparent the effort! He may have won the battle but history may show he (Obama) may have lost the war.
Even though I plan on voting Romney I think not only am I being objective in stating he did worse but the dayly poll increase for Romney (IE: 52 R, 45 O) seem to underscore this gut feel as well.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 12:13pmSamIamTwo – I totally agree, this strategy will keep them talking about Libya for two more weeks. That sounds like a great plan. Besides the fact that he didn’t attack him has all the pundits are out there saying he should have said this or that only gives him fuel for the real deal next week.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 11:03amYeah, He came back to life because someone obviously tweaked his meds. The guy admitted being a pot head and a cocaine freak. How do we know that he quit those habits. I know that others don’t seem to be able to just stop. Most go on to lay in a ditch until they discover the only way out is through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ who puts broken pots back together.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 11:02amObama showed up to the debate but his only weapons were/are the weapons of words and very little substance. He can’t run on his record, so he can only proselytize End of story – end of his Presidency. If he gets 4 more years – God help us all.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 11:01amShowed why he has kept Biden the Blowhard as VP. They probably sleep in a bunk bed together and sneak out to tp the neighbors house and light flaming bags of dog doo. They are immature and couldn’t run a paper route. Embarrassing choice America made in 2008, Putin was probably laughing his butt off, if it wasn’t so serious for him. Romney will be a strong Commander in Chief vs Komondor in chief. Look it up Komondor

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 11:01amConsidering how badly he did during the last debate there was no way he could have done worse.
This time he overcompensated and interrupted just as badly as Biden did.
Mitt Romney was Presidential.
Barack Obama kept his Community Organizer title.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 11:00amMost are onto Obama’s lies. I think it will be a slam dunk for Romney. He needs to win both the electoral vote and the popular vote. Why? So the hateful ones won’t steal it!
