Family Says Ex-Sen. George McGovern ‘No Longer Responsive’
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The family of ex-U.S. Sen. George McGovern says the 90-year-old is “no longer responsive” in hospice care.
McGovern’s family issued a statement Wednesday afternoon through Avera McKennan Hospital.
His daughter, Ann McGovern, earlier told The Associated Press that her father is “nearing the end” and appears restful and peaceful. She says it’s a blessing that she and other family members are able to be with him.
McGovern was the Democratic presidential candidate who lost to President Richard Nixon in 1972 in a historic landslide. He was a member of the U.S. House from 1957 to 1961 and a U.S. senator from 1963 to 1981 and led the leader his party’s liberal wing during that time.
In recent years, he turned his focus to world hunger.

Our nation will fail-all to fulfill our president’s “dreams” from his radical, alcoholic, polygamist, Marxist, deadbeat father.

I don’t know if serving in the military makes you a patriot. I do know that it makes you a person who could very well die for the country. I also know that bomber crews in WWII had the highest per capita death rate than any other service.
I never suppported McGovern and voted against him. I just don’t see any need to display vitrol about his life and, soon, death.

Posted on October 18, 2012 at 12:21pmNot sure if bomber pilots or mechant sailors on liberty ships had it worse. Both had it bad. Toss up I think.
Some bomber crew had to be rescued by Wehrmacht & Luftwaffe personnel from civilians. At one time Luftwaffe personnel had to rescue bomber personnel from Gestapo.
So even if you survived a downed plane, it was still dicey.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 8:10pmI am sure his family will miss him and as Christians we should pray for his family. He meets the real judgement now. One should hope that he became aware of salvation and sanctification prior to his death. It’s too late to pray for that now.

The thing that drives and makes me struggle as a Christian is I know what I should do, and do not do it well. Nobody is perfect and the left points out that I don’t. However, their justification is that we are are not perfect That’s all they have. The real simple point here is that at least we Christians try to do the correct thing. Of course that is “out of style now”. Just ask my two son’s who were confirmed in the conservative Lutheran faith. Secularism appears to be very appealing.

Yes he was a leftist, and I voted for the other guy,,,and look how that turned out. As a Republican and someone whose faith has always guided her, I will not malign or use harsh words. God Bless You Senator as you prepare for your final journey. Peace be with you, your family, and your friends.

Preferring to focus on broad policy matters and speeches, McGovern was not a master of Senate legislative tactics, and developed a reputation among some other senators for “not doing his homework”.
…
In terms of ideology, McGovern fit squarely within modern American liberalism; through 1967 his ADA senate score was 92, and when lacking specific knowledge on a particular matter, he would ask his staff, “What are the liberals doing?”"

Paperboy are you surprised that he failed or failed to plan? Or failed to look up the minutiae?

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 9:27pmMcGovern did the right thing in WW2. For that I am grateful.
But like John McCain you can be physically courageous at one point in your life & then not have the fortitude to do the right thing. He dislike details. So he cribbed other people’s ideals. He had compassion yet, he didn’t run the numbers or study human psychology enough.
He was the Food for Peace Director (a goodwill Ambassador) under the Kennedy Administration. It says we fed 1 in 5 Indian children. It did not seem to have any effect. At that time India stayed more a less on friendly terms with USSR. Only after beating their head against the wall 2 or 3 decades did they come to the conclusion that maybe the U.S.’s way was better than the Soviet’s way. Point is that George had compassion & like to soeak in general terms. Details were tedious. I have contempt for that. The devil is in the details. If it were not, there would be very little in the way of differences.
