Oops: Michelle Obama Spotted Breaking Debate Rules By Joining in Audience Applause During Heated Exchange
One of the most talked-about and debated moments from Tuesday night’s presidential debate is when Mitt Romney was calling out Barack Obama for blaming the Libya attack on a YouTube video and moderator Candy Crowley stepped in to defend the president (she later admitted Romney was right). When that happened, the audience broke the debate rules and clapped. And video has surfaced today showing one of those clapping was Michelle Obama.
The cameras at Fox News captured the moment. In the video, a wide shot captures the act from the top (she’s in the pink dress on the right):
While the first lady’s face isn’t shown, still photos from the night confirm it was Michelle Obama sitting in that seat:

HEMPSTEAD, NY – OCTOBER 16: U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama (Top-L) listens as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaks during a town hall style debate at Hofstra University October 16, 2012 in Hempstead, New York. During the second of three presidential debates, the candidates fielded questions from audience members on a wide variety of issues. Credit: Getty Images
RealClearPolitcs details the rule:
According to the rules both campaigns agreed to, or the memorandum of understanding (MOA), there is to be no clapping from members of the debate audience.
The rule: Article 9, Section A, Subsection 7: “All members of the debate audience will be instructed by the moderator before the debate goes on the air and by the moderator after the debate goes on the air not to applaud, speak, or otherwise participate in the debate by any means other than by silent observation, except as provided by the agreed upon rules of the October 16 town hall debate.”
To be fair, it sounds as if a good chunk of the audience applauded, so it’s possible she got caught up in the moment. Still, others will point out that rules are rules.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. My goodness, from the Latina woman on immigration, to the black man on “tell me all you’re going to do to get my vote”, to Candy Eater sticking up for Obama…. Can someone explain how these left leaning, fat ugly liberals always get to moderate these events?

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 10:53amTo be fair, it seemed like the clapping was coming not from the inner circle but the outer, not where she was sitting. The only video I’ve seen shows her for about 1 second, after the clapping had started to die down. It certainly looks likes she did clap at least once, but I haven’t seen any indication that she instigated it.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 4:47pmOh for Heaven’s sake – you are all so predictable! If you are all so “up in arms” about the First Lady breaking the “no clapping” rule, then you must be completely horrified that Romney was the first one to break the debates rule of “not asking your opponent a question”. He broke this debate rule first, and did so over and over again. So much for the GOP’s pretentious “rules are rules” claim.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 10:23amMitt was right! Besides who claps that the president mentioned the word terror and not in the context as it applied to the direct situation. He covered his tracks or maybe knew it was really terror but at that point was still in a position spin this into and being about a video against Islam. He took the low road and he got burned on it because it was clearly not the truth, but the audience is clapping as if BHO was telling the truth all along based on the info he had at the time. The lies and distortions that come out of this administration will be legendary when the books are finally closed on the whole sordid mess of his tenure in the WH. The consumate Leftist is Obama! They are taught that you tell the people what they want to hear and then do completely the opposite off camera. Look at the actions and not the words. His actions bare out who he is.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 10:18amThat applause clearly revealed that the audience was comprised mainly of liberals. What was so appalling was that they immediately believed that what Crowley said was a FACT simply because she said so. It is shocking how gullible liberals are.
What also is amazing is how liberals pitch a fit and scream that something is “taken out of context” when they are taking Obama’s words “No act of terror will go unpunished” out of context! If you see for yourself in the video of the Rose Garden speech at 3.26 Obama was talking about what he did the previous day (9-11-12) by visiting a cemetery of our soldiers and visited a hospital for the wounded. He was referencing the terrorist attack on 9-11-01 when he said “No act of terror will go unpunished.” not 9-11-12! Only at 4.29 in the video does he return to talking about the Benghazi attack. Just as in English grammar the pronoun references the last noun used in a sentence (the antecedent), Obama’s statement reflects the last paragraph discussed, which was 9-11-01.

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 11:36amHaving been irritated many times by the lack of proper grammar and word usage in correct context; permit me to issue a heartfelt and genuine THANKS. I realize that it’s no biggie, BUT, both candidates et al. continually harp on education this, education that, education all around, and quite a few times respondents that list here misuse your for you’re, their for they’re, here for hear, and so on, and so on. Well, I know I’ll be chastised for having the audacity to mention such, but, proper english does reflect ones intelligence. As for Michelle and other audience members that chose to ignore the beforehand agreed to rules, what did you really expect???

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 10:43amPetty? You’ve obviously never been elected to office, been in charge of a business, lead a team or been considered a high-profile person. There are rules for the average American, but those in the class I just mentioned are expected to follow a higher standard. Have you seen this from other first ladies? The answer is, no. Defending Michelle Obama when she doesn’t behave right just irritates the average person even more because neither her nor her husband have been held accountable for their actions or behavior since he ran for office in Illinois. I expect a high level of behavior from people who say they deserve to be in charge. We aren’t getting that from Michelle or the president.
And please note that no one is talking about the Romney family’s behavior. Why, because it’s not an issue.

Traditional codes do not interest them. Having little faith in a God and the here-after, they are intent on replacing God’s judgement in the here-after with man’s re-distribution / man’s revenge in the here and now . The material Left is not interested in man’s spiritual life nor in the old concept of mercy. They view themselves as the instruments of justice . They are their own Gods.
