Joe Scarborough Has Tense Exchange With Mika Brzezinski Over Romney’s ‘Binder’ Remarks: ‘Desperation’

“Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski had a tense exchange Thursday over Mitt Romney’s now famous “binders full of women” presidential debate line, with Scarborough dismissing Brzezinski’s outrage and calling the whole thing “ridiculous.”

Brzezinski started the segment by pointing out that Romney had not solicited the “binders” himself upon being elected governor, and that it was Massachusetts women’s groups that instigated the hiring of more women for senior cabinet positions.

“How is that not a lie?” Brzezinski asked. “When you say you ‘sought out’ and then it turns that they were brought to you, that’s not the truth.”

Time magazine’s Mark Halperin shot her down, saying, “I just don’t think that’s what this campaign should be about, and I would say that about either side…I think we should have a spirited debate in the campaign about which of these candidates would do more for all Americans — including women — and look at their policy proposals and their records, but I just don’t think parsing individual statements said live during the debate…”

Brzezinski argued that it wasn’t just a quick debate line and that it was a story Romney had prepared to tell.

“This is a ridiculous, ridiculous argument to make,” Scarborough jumped in. “The president’s going out talking about binders — this is an act of desperation.”

He said he hopes Democrats and liberals continue to focus on “binder-gate” for the rest of the campaign and pointed to MSNBC’s post-debate focus group that saw increased support for Romney among women.

“Keep talking about binders. Mitt Romney’s fine,” Scarborough said. “It’s ridiculous if this concerns you, I guarantee you if this is your concern, that is not the concern of a waitress that is trying to keep her two jobs in Youngstown, Ohio right now…who are moving to Mitt Romney because they don’t think President Obama has a strong enough record on the economy.”

“We can argue Obama’s record on the economy as well, and we could probably have a spirited debate about that and by the way women have done better under the Obama economy than men,” Brzezinski said.

“Then argue that instead of ‘binder-gate,’” Scarborough said.

Brzezinski continued to argue that women who hear such stories about Romney will be turned off by him, questioning “does he get us.”

“Well, keep talking about binders, and Mitt Romney will win in a landslide,”

“Well good, I’m glad he’s for flex time because we’ll be at work less since we’re paid less,” Brzezinski said.

“Whatever,” Scarborough responded.

  Very interesting question for all media calling for a “Binder-gate” investigation of how many and how much comparison of Romney! I am certain it will be the case of the blackest, burnt-out pot (media) calling the “tea” kettle (Romney) black. So, how much is Mika getting paid compared to Joe or Will? And isn’t it a problem of a 66% male to 33% female staff, so what about behind the scenes? Will we find females in upper levels of management to be equally represented based one USA female population?

“Desperation” is the correct word. It is laughable. Especially, when you look at the facts. Democrats give a good talk, but the “War on Women” starts and ends at the White House. Check out the pay discrepancies between men and women working at the White House. Reports are revealing that the average female employee for the White House earns about 18 percent less than the average male employee.

When you try and accuse your opponent of something. Make sure your own house is clean first. Hypocritical dirtbags!!!!!

At the end of this clip (yes, somehow I listened to the whole thing despite having breakfast just before clicking on it) one of the pundits says Romney’s answer about women being able to have flex hours to come home to cook or take care of their children would be “offensive” to some women. That left me scratching my head..what women are going to be put off by that? Are we seriously at a point in this society where kids should sit in abandoned homes fixing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for themselves because parenting is less important than corporate goals? This is what the left stands for? AND that’s standing up for the middle class???
What the hell is the middle class as they define it? If they are talking about blue collar workers, then they are the ones out of touch. The “blue collar” workers have a much higher birthrate than others in America. They are the MOST likely to need these types of concessions from their employers if both parents are working. In many cases, a family is “middle class” for the same reason I am: My wife made a conscious decision to stay home for our children while I work. I make a good living, but I’m competing financially with two-parent households. If my wife were even making 50% of my pay and working, we could no longer really consider ourselves “middle class”.
So, Mika, who of these candidates is really “out of touch” with the middle class? HMMM?

  I was channel surfing this morning, and came across these two going at it, per the above article. I hoped, they’d reduce the argument to mud wrestling, with Mika in her bra and boxers and Joe in his mankini, more for their own amusement than mine. I couldn’t watch long though. I had to change the channel. They were making me sick. Joe has turned into quite a wussie. Mika is the epitomi of a truly stupid condescending liberal. They gave me the willies!

As a woman, I don’t find anything offensive about “binders full of women” regarding Romney himself. The real question is whether or not the women were truly qualified. To me, this does sound like someone might have been discriminating against women IN GOVERNMENT and Romney corrected the problem. However, the one question I would ask if I was a man though, is if these women truly were NOT qualified for the positions, did Romney discriminate against men in order to hire more women? (I sincerely doubt that Romney would do that though due to his record of running successful businesses.) Ultimately, the best qualified person for the job should get the job, whether it is a man, a woman, a white, a black, or whatever.

The biggest question of all is WHY didn’t OBAMA pay women the same amount as men in his own administration? There is absolutely no excuse for this!!!

  I do recall something about binders of women brought up in a previous election debacle. They were binders of photographs and back stories on prostitutes and escorts in the 1972 DNC Headquarters located in the Watergate Hotel. James Dean actually put the team together to recover any photos and bios of his newly wed wife. Anything else they found like the info on Eagleton was just extra.

  There is not only that ‘Glass Ceiling’ for the females on 0bama’s staff, there are also fewer of them. Photos of the staff looks like a frat house. Romney’s record for hiring more women and paying more stands for itself. The binder mention that Mika is whining about and the fact that an outside group presented those binders to both Romney and his opponent when he ran for governor does illustrate that Romney opened his copy and likely hired from it as well.

  Have you ever noticed that it is everybody against the white male. Everybody wants laws passed to favor them over the white male instead of competing against them on an even playing field. Women, black, hispanics etc. etc. The only group that doesn’t ask for special treatment are the Asians. You know why? Because they can stand on their own two feet, unlike the others.

The Lady does not understand how folks are chosen for Real Jobs.
Each job has the resumes placed inside that Binder-or folder-or file-whatever you may want to
call the info.So when the job becomes available its easy to find the right person.
this was done even finer by loading women separately.
The stats do not support her assumption that women are doing better under Obama.

Romney said they (his government) reached out to WOMENS groups who in turn produced BINDERS FULL of Qualified WOMEN. DO women now take umbrage to the fact that womens groups are out there acting on their behalf to get them into the work force. Romneys government at Romneys urging, was looking to diversify the State government by having more women in it. I think they are really missing the point which is obvious. He didn’t produce the BINDERS full of women nor did the state Government. This is the Left on steriods now!

  I suspect that they sold Binders at Staples too. Wait until Mika finds out Romney participated in an office supply Binder conspiracy. He enables the selling of Binders to the masses. Oh the horror! How many far-lefty children will be trick-or-treating dressed in Binders? No candy for them!
