President Obama Discusses Benghazi With Jon Stewart: If Four Americans Get Killed, Its Not Optimal

During the taping of “The Daily Show,” President Barack Obama told Jon Stewart “if four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal” while discussing the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Stewart had asked him the following question, according to the pool report: “Is part of the investigation helping the communication between these divisions? Not just what happened in Benghazi, but what happened within…Because I would say, even you would admit, it was not the optimal response, at least to the American people, as far as all of us being on the same page.”

“Here’s what I’ll say,” the president reportedly responded. “If four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal. We’re going to fix it.”

Obama continued:

“And what happens, during the course of a presidency, is that the government is a big operation and any given time something screws up. And you make sure that you find out what’s broken and you fix it. Whatever else I have done throughout the course of my presidency the one thing that I’ve been absolutely clear about is that America’s security comes, and the American people need to know exactly how I make decisions when it comes to war, peace, security, and protecting Americans. And they will continue to get that over the next four years of my presidency.”

The Huffington Post provides some additional quotes from the pool report. However, you may notice that HuffPo left out Obama’s “if four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal” line:

“We weren’t confused about the fact that four Americans had been killed,” Obama told Stewart while discussing the attack, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens. “I wasn’t confused about the fact that we needed to ramp up diplomatic security around the world right after it happened.”

“I wasn’t confused about the fact that we had to investigate exactly what happened so it gets fixed,” he continued. “And I wasn’t confused about the fact that we’re going to hunt down whoever did it.”

In fact, the news site actually includes the rest of paragraph where Obama made the “optimal” remark, but removes that one sentence and starts quoting in the middle of the president’s statement, according to The Atlantic Wire’s account of the pool report.

“The National Counter Terrorism Center only told Congress that it was a terrorist attack eight days after the assault took place,” The Washington Examiner’s Joel Gehrke writes.

Additionally, “Within 24 hours of the 9-11 anniversary attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, U.S. intelligence agencies had strong indications al Qaeda–affiliated operatives were behind the attack, and had even pinpointed the location of one of those attackers,” according to a report from The Daily Beast.

  Obama made it very, very, very clear that he was not “confused” right after the non-video-inspired terrorist attack. Great! And yet we have gobs and gobs of contradicting statements in the 2 weeks following the attack. Why did they lie so much? I don’t know. It is BIZARRE to the extreme. Inexplicable speeches. Strange and weird from start to finish.

  He goes on Comedy Central to discuss this topic, but won’t sit down with Chris Wallace or O’Reilly. I wonder if he got laughs and nervous chuckles from clueless Stewart. This President is one mentally deranged human being. His Presidency hasn’t exactly been optimal either.

  Could be political assassination. We don’t know much about the former Seals (Woods and Doherty)who were killed in the attack. Most of the Seals on the OBL raid have mysteriously been on two helicopters that went down and we really don’t know if these Seals were a part of the OBL raid. Even the mother of Sean Smith thought her son knew something because of his job and was probably in the process of destroying classified info as the attack launched. Who knows. But this Prez will make sure no one ever really gets down to the facts and the truth.

  HKS~~There’s a guy on another site I go on, who has speculated that this incident was supposed to be an Oct. surprise intended to be a kidnapping/rescue attempt…….gone bad.
  
  Dont remember all the details other than BHO was supposed to then rescue the Ambassador right before the election.

  I hate Obama. And that is not a word I use lightly. But I hate this guy with every inch of my being for lying about all of his campaign promises in 08′ (I still didnt vote for him but I know lots did and regret it). He’s a failed president and the WORST in American history.Pretty much every word out of his mouth is a lie. He is evil and I believe – spawned from the devil. There is not one bit of heart or compassion with this guy. But what is worst of all and why I hate him the most is because of the 4 Americans he pretty much had a hand of murdering in Benghazi. And he gets an f’ing pass. Clear and free. Heck even Clinton got impeached because of lies over an affair. Why is nobody calling for this guy’s head on a platter.   It is sickening to see POTUS several times a day. It is almost unbearable. Sort of torture for we the people being practiced by the media. His voice makes me sick. He is ever present unlike other presidents because of his adoring media. Vote him out of a job on Nov. 6th.

  I aIgree!! I have such a hard time listening to him! I have watched the debates but I get such a true sickening feeling. The consistent “non-answers” he provides with each debate question and also the FACT that he knew that the moderator actually had a transcript of his Rose Garden speech makes me believe he was aware of the questions that would be asked. If you re-watch the debate with that possibility in mind, it no longer becomes a question if but who gave him the questions ahead of time. It is very evident he was given a heads-up (in the very least) as to what was going to be asked. No conspiracy theory, just plain old observational clues that combine body language and the content of his answers that confirm his talking points, rather than answers, were well rehearshed ahead of time. I now pray that God will make “all that is hidden come to light” and that no amount of media bias or coverup will be able to hide the truth from the American people. The security and future success of this God- Blessed Nation depends on the mercy that only God can bestow….a true war is going on of good vs evil…and we better start praying daily that He forgives us for our rejection of Him by letting go of the Morals this nation was built and begins heal our land! From the White House down…time to CLEAN HOUSE!! MAY GOD ONCE AGAIN BLESS AMERICA!!

  Not optimal huh? I am truly at a loss for words because of the disgusting taste in my mouth from just reading that.
  
  This president is just beyond belief in his absurd view of these United States of America, its citizens, its military members and its hard fought for and won values. He reduces everything to some sort of unmeasurable standard in which he is the only one with a scale.
  
  We think sometimes that our higher values or God, Country and Freedom to be just some punchlines we toast to at the bar. But mark these words! When these things are lost…really lost, they will mean more to us than life itself. This president is taking us down a road so horrible that we cannot, dare not fathom.
  
  Some say that Romney has got this thing in the bag. If he does, thats fine, we’ll all feel real good in the morning, but its truly going to get ugly thereafterwards. If Obama does manage to pull a one trick pony out of his hat, then we are still ko’d. I want to look for an upside here folks but with my experience from being a ground up study of the culture, I cannot see one this time around.
  
  Obama winning may just save the country for the time being, his loss will no doubt trigger catastrophe. Are we ready for that? Some say bring it! Some say might as well get it over with! OK, just remember who you are and how to get back home. God Bless the Republic!

Now go tell the grieving family members of the Ambassador and 3 others that died that the death of their loved ones was “not optimal.”

  POLARIZED: I read all of that information also. But I still think this entire video was a major set up which back fired just like Fast and Furious. AND until the Left stops its War on conservative Murdoch, Fox has my support. The International Left would like nothing better than closing down Fox as well as banning gun ownership. If OBLAMO gets re-elected, those will be two more of his many executive orders.   I guess I am a bit suspicious. I remember how the Fast & Furious was used as a back door trying to build a case for tighter gun control.
  
  Since the Muslim Brotherhood are presenting their case at the UN to make it a crime to say anything negative about them makes me suspicious of this incident.
  
  Pres. Obama tried to make this about the youtube video that made fun of Mohammed for 2 weeks before he was forced to admit that it was terrorist. Was he trying to use this to support the Muslim Brotherhood case to support their cause at the UN and make it a world crime to insult Islam.

“It’s not optimal” only because it is distracting him from his full time job of running for re-election. He cared so much for their situation he went to bed, and as far as I can tell never even postponed any of his fundraising gigs. What a despicable human being. If he somehow wins in November, I will be crying myself to sleep, for fear of what is to come

You can see Obama’s completely at a loss as to how to approach the debacle his administration has created in Benghazi that’s left four Americans dead.
This “it’s never optimal” line is right up there with “some bumps in the road” and Jay Carney’s “this is a moving picture”. When Carney uttered that phrase a slight smirk popped up on his face clearly he was proud of the euphemism he used to continue hiding his boss’ incompetence. If I was in the press pool that day I’d have beat the living s!@# out of him when he did that.
