A drone strike Thursday–likely launched by the U.S.–that killed at least seven Al Qaeda suspects in South Yemen, along with an announcement from Iran that they are designing drones with a range of thousands of miles, following their recent drone incursion into Israeli airspace, has once again stirred up military and ethical debate in regards to the controversial weapon.
There are few rules governing drones, but it is becoming increasing clear that they are the future of warfare. Joined by Peter Huessy of the American Foreign Policy Council, the ‘Real News’ panel Thursday debated what the proliferation of drones means, and whether we will soon see a future with drone-filled skies:

Oct. 19, 2012 at 11:04amnothing..NOTHING tops a platoon of Marines with a reliable weapons, a stockpile of ammo and a little cover. In the end the infantryman will prevail unless we continue to reduce what is expected of them because we want to please the weaklings. Would you rather have a well trained loyal Marine living next to you or the seven dwarf’s?

Oct. 19, 2012 at 5:31amWhat happened to the war to end all wars, WWII? So if drones are the future of warfare, its ok to get rid of the UN, we don’t need them anymore to launder oil money? You see President Obama has a one point plan, to not surgically remove the captured drone given to Iran, even though knew exactly where it was? Wait, a one point plan, is not the same as an outcome?
I thought the future of war was to promote peace, that war was unthinkable? I wonder where they got the idea that war was unthinkable? Maybe WWII? US Marines running around with flame throwers, lighting people on fire that hide from justice? Maybe it is not so hard to see how the smell of bacon could offend some people and make war very not thinkable if you just put your mind to it?

Oct. 18, 2012 at 10:03pmbut it is becoming increasing clear that they are the future of warfare.
Oh bull! This administration would like you to believe this is the future because they have no spine to use the men that are actually needed to win a war. Clinton was famous for launching a drone as retaliation for something. So he blew up a pharmaceutical factory. Now the big O uses nothing but drones so he can say he paired down the troop numbers.
It’s funny how there is always this cry for rules on the “allowed” uses of a weapon when we’re the only ones that knows how to use them. The UN will be crying for the US to stop the use of drones. They love tying our hands.
