Virginia Teacher Charged With Assault: Girl’s Hand Cut in Forced ‘Islamic Hand Sign’ Drill (Updated)

An elementary school teacher in Chesapeake, Va. has been charged with simple assault after a parent claimed her daughter’s hand was cut open as a result of the teacher yanking her arm aggressively while trying to teach students an “Islamic hand sign.”

Officer Leo Kosinski, a spokesman for the Chesapeake Police Department, told TheBlaze that Tara Harris was criminally charged with a misdemeanor on Oct. 11 and released on a summons. The case is currently under investigation.

“It’s still a criminal charge. It happened at the school and it involved a student,” Kosinski said. The police department could not release any additional information.

Stephanie Bennett, the mother of the 10-year-old girl who was allegedly assaulted at Butts Road Intermediate School, told TheBlaze in an emotional phone interview that Harris has a disturbing trend of “indoctrinating” students with Islamic teachings. She also said the teacher openly campaigns for President Barack Obama in the classroom.

The incident of alleged assault occurred on October 2, according to Bennett.

“The teacher was going over Islamic hand signs with the children — she stayed on this issue for two days straight during their reading and math class,” she said.

Bennett’s daughter suffers from a processing disorder, making it difficult for her to quickly grasp things like hand signs. “Not that she’s uneducated or anything. It’s just a processing problem,” the mother said.

When Bennett’s daughter was unable to do the Islamic hand sign correctly after two days of instruction, Harris became frustrated and attempted to twist the girl’s fingers to make the Islamic gesture meaning “power and strength.” The way Bennett described it, it sounds like an upside A-OK hand gesture. It is unclear exactly which “Islamic hand sign” was being promoted as the source information comes from children.

“When she didn’t get it right, [Harris] went over and yanked her hand out of her desk and my daughter’s hand got hung up on the metal wire on her file folder and the skin got caught on it,” the mother explained, her voice cracking with emotion. “The other children saw my daughter’s hand dripping with blood after the teacher had gotten so mad that she went to twist my daughter’s hand into an Islamic sign.”

After her child came home with the cut on her hand and she learned what had happened, Bennett immediately filed a police report. She claims to have pictures of her daughter’s injuries. She has agreed to share the pictures with TheBlaze, however, they were unable to be sent digitally late Wednesday night.

She says the day after the incident school officials informed her that Harris had been placed on administrative leave. On Tuesday, she was then informed that the teacher had been terminated from the Chesapeake Public School system all together. Her termination can not be independently confirmed as the messages left with multiple officials with the school system have not been returned. Attempts to contact Harris were also unsuccessful.

The mother said her daughter told her that Harris “prays to Allah in Arabic” around five times a day in front of students and teaches them about Islam and how it is superior to other religions. Bennett claims other parents have confirmed her suspicions after talking with their kids.

One of those parents, Nita Redditt, told TheBlaze that her young son confirmed Bennett’s story. The boy said he was “scared” to go back to school the next day after she found out, she added.

“I think he was intimidated,” Redditt said. “I couldn’t believe what was going on in the classroom in regards to this teacher praying to Allah and having them pray with her.”

Bennett said she wants the Chesapeake Police Department to conduct a full investigation into Harris’s actions. She also wants to know why she wasn’t notified immediately when another parent complained to Butts Road Intermediate School officials about Harris campaigning for Obama in the classroom and bashing Republican GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

Bennett said a school resource officer intially told her that “speaking in Arabic wasn’t against school policy.”

“Kids can’t stand up and fight for themselves. Someone’s got to fight for them,” Bennett said. “Why didn’t someone call me? Why weren’t any of the parents notified?”

What is strange is that no local news outlets appear to be reporting on the incident — not even the fact that a public school teacher was charged with assault.

Chesapeake Public Schools is still reeling from fresh allegations of criminal activity against one of its teachers. WAVY-TV reports that Bryan Carter, an assistant principal at Indian River High School, was arrested earlier this month and charged with abduction, burglary, attempted robbery and assault and battery.

PilotOnline.com, which serves the Chesapeake area, also reported on Wednesday that a Virginia Beach piano teacher had been charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy.

So why are local media not covering the story involving Harris, who has been with the school since September, allegedly assaulting a 10-year-old student and forcing her class to learn Islamic hand signs? What makes this story different?

If this story is true and this crap is going down, the teacher needs to go. Beside neglecting coursework how can a teacher teach when she’s got to drop and face mecca 6 times a day?? Do they say the national anthem, or does she have a call to prayer?
What do you tell little Johnny when he comes home and asks why his teacher gets down on her knees and prays several times during the school day, while Johnny’s family only prays 2 maybe 3 times.

  @ColdNorth – Very Good. You get it. Now you know why NO religion is allowed to be taught or used in a PUBLIC school. If you want your child taught a certain religion, little Johnny or Maria should go to a religious class of the families choosing OUTSIDE of a PUBLIC school. Now, if only all the other republicans would be as smart as you and not try to get Christian doctrine taught in public school this country might be going places that are all good.

  This situation where the teacher clearly was teaching a religion and encouraging her students to practice it is a clear violation of the ‘misunderstood’ separation of church and state. She is NOT to indoctrinate her students to Christianity, Islam, Buddism or whatever.
  
  However, the national debate is…. Does a student or teacher have the right to PRACTICE their religion, whatever it is, in public, and yes, even in the classroom?
  
  According to the 1st amendment, yes they do.
  
  According to the public school administrators…No they don’t…unless it aligns with the leftist ideology.
  
  The public schools and their administrators think that THEY are the interpreters and the ENFORCEMENT AGENCY of the 1st amendment and the misinterpreted “separation of church and state”. My questions are…Since when do the schools think that they have the constitutional authority to override the students parents? Who gave them that authority? How far does it go? Are they an arm of the Executive branch of the government to enforce laws of the state?
  
  My answer to this is that they are SERVANTS to the public and not the public as servants to the schools.

  I would leave the religion in the classroom question up to a majority rules consensus. If the children live in a Christian community and most parents agree they want their little darlings to say the pledge of allegiance each morning with “under God” included, then let those taxpayer parents have their wish for their own children. If there are enough prents who object, then let their kids be taught in a different classroom with a teacher who doesn’t have them say the pledge.
  Even as an atheist, I do support the idea of school vouchers because I believe it is only fair with a socialized public school system that the parents are also paying taxes for.
  I grew up in a school system that was 95% Mormon. Practically all of my teachers & classmates were Mormon and my own family was not. I dealt with it. I went with the flow. I don’t think it did any lasting harm anyway. However, this business of her teaching the kids all about Islam is just plain wrong. Despite all of my teachers being Mormon, not one of them launched into teaching Mormonism in the classroom, nor was the Book of Mormon a mandated textbook for nonMormon kids like myself (That required reading was left to the 90 minutes those other kids spent in seminary each day).

  Just to clarify my earlier post, in case I sound like I contradicted myself:
  I believe in the parents’ rights as taxpayers to help shape and determine what their children learn. I also support school vouchers as an exercise of parental rights as taxpayers to the public school system.
  I do NOT support the specific teaching of any religion within the public school system unless all of the parents of the children within the classroom are onboard with it. If there is disagreement on this, then different classes can teach different things & that will leave plenty of room for debate on the playground (just like in real life).

  What do you tell your children, who are told they can’t bring a Bible to school, when they come to you and say their teacher drops to her knees, faces Mecca and prays in Arabic 6 times a day? It’s not that all religions are allowed, and there’s tolerance. It’s that only Islam is being allowed because they don’t want to offend. Christians don’t blow people up.

  Cold, this is what happens when you have nothing but PC BS going on. It is high time we stop the PC BS and tell it like it is no matter what side of the fence you are on. If this would have been my kid, not only would my kid have been pulled from that school, but the teacher would not have to worry about ever indoctrinating or hurting another student again. As the article said this school has a history of indoctrination into islam, ALL PARENTS THAT HAVE KIDS IN THIS SCHOOL NEED TO PULL THEM OUT NOW. Otherwise, the parents are just as bad.

  “Teachers” are getting out of control!
  Laws should be passed so that during Elementary, Middle School and the 1st 2 years of high school only Math, English(American Language) , American History, Government, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, are the only subjects allowed in school. Who knows the kids might be more than the morons they are now when they graduate!

I am Conservative and Atheist! I know many Conservatives and Republicans that want Obama or Romney not campaigned for by teachers ( Even thought the Teachers unions only seem to promote Obama) and we want school to be about the Sciences,Math,ENGLISH, American and world History,etc…..Quit trying to sound so above the Frey and profound because there are plenty of people on both sides that want there horse Shiitz taught in school..you know like the RELIGION ‘Global Warming’ and the retelling of America from a Hippies blood shot eyes…you guys seem to be going after the kiddies a lot more then the Republicans would be nice if you learned something as well and kept your One world crap and Politics out of the kids heads as well..Grow up and clean up your own indoctrination methods in the school first before you make fun a kid that got blooded by a Muslim you Stupid,Liberal,Hippie Moron!

  If this is taking place in regular public schools, can you imagine what goes on in American madrasas? You bet your @ss they are being used to raise the future jihadists and Islamists of America, just as universities are being used to spread communism.

  The ‘majority rule consensus’ would negate the rights of the minority to either receive religious education (which I agree they should receive in their home and churches), and the rights of the non-religious to not receive religious education against their will. This is simply another example of the ‘tyranny of the majority’ the founders warned about when discussing democracy.
  
  Many here make the argument that freedom FROM religion is not protected under the Constitution, but likewise, neither is freedom from secularism or science. Still, whether one is religious or not, it seems to me the most prudent solution is for religious education/indoctrination to be provided by the parents in their homes and churches. Do you really want a teacher taking that responsibility on for you as a parent? What if you’re a Catholic and the teacher is Mormon? Would you still want that teacher providing religious education to your kid? What if the teacher was a Satanist? A Buddhist? A Muslim? If you’ve demanded religious education in public schools, then you have opened your child to the likelihood that they will be taught by a teacher who is not of your faith. “Christianity” is a wide umbrella, with some 1,500 or so sects of it, and as I recall, beliefs about salvataion and living for Christ vary amongst them from the trivial to the extreme. Be careful what you wish for… and really… be a parent and provide that education/training to your own child.

  Sadly, the expanse of Islam and Muslim teachers in the public education system will be enhanced, as opposed to hindered, through efforts to have, maintain or expand religious education in public schools. Yes, yuo all know I am an atheist, but I point this out for your consideration. If Christians obtain a victory through the mandated teaching of religion and Christian-centric education, you have to understand the Muslim groups will likewise demand the right to do the same, and expose our children to Islam, whether we want them to, or not. They will claim (and correctly) that you demanded religious education in the public schools, but are now attempting to discriminate against education in Islam. The schools will not be able to defend Christian-centric or Christian only religious education because that will be argued as being against the establishment clause of the 1st amendment. And bound by duty to the law and Constitution, you know damned good and well, the judges will declare (justly) that Islam must be allowed to be taught alongside Christianity in schools. That’s what I meant when I said, “Be careful what you wish for.”
  
  Realizing this is one of the reasons I so staunchly resist religious education of any kind in the public school systems. If you want your children to receive religious education/indoctrination, then provide that to them in your homes and churches. Do not give that responsibility OR POWER to the public education system!!

  So, you are against religion of any kind being taught in school, right? … What about the fact the Obama has opproved of Arabic language classes being made mandatory in schools with lessons in Islam? Also, in Texas a history of Islam is taught, which white washes Mohammed and makes him appear as a humble, pious, person just doing allah’s will. Never mentions his child bride, that he was a war mongor, or that anyone died under Islamic agression, and so on and so on.
  
  Also, are you aware that for over 10 years now a district in LA California has made a six weeks course in Islam mandatory, for high school kids to graduate. In the course the kids must pick and use an Arabic name, if during Ramadam they must fast, they must dress in a Muslim fashion. Also, the kids must learn all the prayers of Islam and be able to recite them, and demoninstrate how to pray according to Islamic ways. In a test, they must answer questions as if they are a believing Muslims. All this must be done or they don’t pass and graduate. This was challenged in court the ACLU supports this whole heartedly and the parents who don’t want to have their children participate have no recourse!

  If anything, you’ve made the point for disallowing religious education in schools. I do not, in any way condone the instruction of Islam in any public school. That California has gotten away with making such a mandate says something about the liberal California base, not something about the importance of Christian education in public schools.
  
  Rick Perry is responsible for the teaching of Islam in Texas public schools. I say get it out, and in order to keep it out, also demand that religious education NOT be provided or made mandatory in the public schools. It is insanity to demand religious education in public schools! Under the no establishment clause, Muslims would have every right (and would sue for, and get it) to demand Islam be taught universally alongside Christianity. If NO religious education is allowed in public schools, then neither can make headway. You are still fully free (and I say responsible) to provide your child religious education at home and in your churches, just as Muslims are free to teach Islam in their homes and mosques.
  
  Were I a Texan, I would demand that Islam be taken out of schools, and realize that if I expected it to remain that way, I would likewise have to demand Christianity remain out of public schools as well.

  If the facts are as they seem, the justice system must take strong measures against this teacher, who seems to be interested in Islam than in teaching students. Why was the teacher teaching muslim and islam faith and pushing obama? It is because more and more people are knowing that he is a muslim, plain and simple.

  There is actually one semi-good thing to be said of this: Not one child in her class will tie a happy memory of this teacher to the religion of Islam. They will also probably get sick at the mention of Obama. They will grow up knowing the truth: that Islam is a tyrannical and violent religion. It’s absurd and inexcusable that this happened, but bittersweet that the teacher showed her true stripes. It’s too bad that it was towards a bunch of innocent school-children. I hope their parents can help them to heal from this.

  IMHO, all too many refer to “islam” as a faith. I disagree. It’s not a “faith”. It’s followers treat it like a faith, but it’s practice speaks of a political ideology. It is a demonic practice.   Brainwashing 10 year old children with a political view has no business being in a public funded classroom. People pay Federal, State, and property taxes to fund schools who hold different political views and this is an area which is none of the business of the school or it’s employees who are also paid by the public. Paid and given lifetime benefits the public never receives.

The various stories of school children singing songs of praise, the military-garbed students chanting Obama, other teachers promoting Barack Hussein in class – too many instances to recall.   Your correct to assume this! This is why we will be required to submit or lose our heads in the end, because that will be the only way to actually implement Islam in the USA when people have had different teachings. Ya see, these muslims see our people as non-believers who only need to be forced to their version of the truth. Since Americans no longer really believe in God (according to BHO), then they are automatically empty vessels in need of filling with a false belief system. With our crumbling society, the secularist knows that the people need something and islam provides order out of chaos. Regulations and Laws only go so far to managing people, these are no longer working and in walks Islam….submit or die. Its coming and its just a matter of one more major calamity.

  The POTUS was mentioned because the teacher was said to be openly campaigning for Obama which I’m sure is against school rules, if not federal guidelines. If this teacher was talking about Islam in the context of history then there would be no problem but praying in the classroom five times a day to Allah and Islamic indoctrination are grounds for termination – period.

  This incident is the sad result of having the first Black President in the White House. The black community, for some strange reason, have become emboldened, because we have a black man in the white House. Race relations are worse, and the anti white movement is alive and well. I would hazard a guess, if Obama, is defeated, there will be widespread rioting in America. The blacks will claim we white have cheated, and stole the election.   I taught in the Middle East and they are relentless to gain Islamic power over our country and recruiting blacks in the US had been hugely successful. The Imam in the minaret outside my apartment in Saudi Arabia called out five times a day for everyone to hear for many months, “Allah Akbar, Death to Americans” – I’m not surprised by this at all -

  I have never heard of anything more outragous in my life! How on earth could a school teacher get away with, not only practicing her personal religion in front of her class, speaking to them in arabic, forcing Muslim hand signs on her class, but also promoting her personal political views? How was the school not monitoring her class? Why weren’t the children’s parents asking their children about this class and it’s teacher? When my children were in school I knew all their teachers and what was going on in their classes. This whole thing makes my skin crawl. Don’t the parents realize this teacher was indoctrinating their children with her own religious and political views? It’s so outrageous if my child had been one of her students, not only would she be personally sued, but so would the school district. Schools systems need to learn that this kind of thing will not be tolerated in the United States of America. If this teacher wants to teach like this move to a Muslim country. Of course, if we continue with Obama, this kind of thing might just become common. We know he not only has Muslim family members, wears a Muslim inscription on his wedding band (now why would he do that?) and has shown his disapproval of Israel and sympathies with Muslim nations. Remember him bowing and kissing the King of Saudia Arabia’s hand? Disgusting.

  Can you just imagine the hissy fit that would have resulted if a teacher had stood up and taught a class Christian religion? Why is it OK for them to indoctrinate our children with the so-called “religion” of our enemies? For the record, I don’t consider Islam a religion at all–it’s a system for political world conquest and domination, and therefore, IMHO not entitled to receive the Constitutional protections of a “religion”, any more than Communism or Nazism is protected as a “religion”.

  Try to imagine if the teacher were teaching children to make the sign of the cross the way Catholic believers do. Parents need to rise up en masse and stand in front of schools and demand that teachers trying to indoctrinate their students in politics or religion or sexual preference. If all parents kept their children out of school until the schools agreed to monitor their teachers they would get action.

  I agree, Lassie. And I think ToddH makes a rather salient point: the children in that class will tie that experience to Islam for the rest of their lives. Perhaps none of them will ever consider turning to the Muslim faith.
  
  I would ask though, for consideration… when we tell children the story of selflessness and sacrifice made by Jesus, we often do not think of an undertone that goes unmentioned. Yes, we present the torture and murder of Jesus as an example of the immense and arguably inestimable love that God has for us. But how many of us consider that, to tell the full story, the child must understand that this horrendous chain of events endured by Jesus was necessary for him or her to be reconciled to God because they were bad and sinful before they were even cognizant human beings? Moreover, that they were convicted of sin and potential eternal damnation for nothing that they have done, but for the actions of 2 people beguiled by a serpent some 6,000 years ago?
  
  Further, do we ever ponder what kind of tremendous psychological affect that can have on children: being faced with the notion that they (and others) were so bad that a man had to be tortured and murdered for them, and that because Jesus endured these things, they must live for Him, and be accountable to Him for all the ‘bad’ they do from here on out? Am I the only one here who sees all of this as an incredibly powerful and repugnant tool of manipulation?

It is all they can do to report the truth about Libya, the 9/11 terrorists, the riots in Egypt and everything else without an OK from the White House. The “teacher” Jana Harris prays to Allah in Arabic several times a day as the kids watch? Harris drew blood from a little girl, and this is SIMPLE ASSAULT?! The local media finds this not news worthy? Is the Chesapeake school administrators trying to cover this up? This is evil. The devil loves the blood of children.

Teachers nor children can speak of God or Jesus in schools…yet the teacher is allowed to speak in Arabic? And teach about Islam? How are the children to understand this?
Where is the justice in teaching Islam, but not the Bible in school… all over the nation?
Gov Perry in TX mandated the teaching of Islam in schools there. How can he get away with that?

Can you not see how Islam is taking over the USA? Can you not see that some are pushing for Islam to be the ONLY religion in the World!? And the children are being taught a watered down version of Islam. They do not tell the children of the hate in the religion! All sweetness and lies.

Sure sounds like the End of Times to me!

  I’ve been fortunate to hear Dr. Warner speak multiple times. IHe just had a session about the history of Islam versus Christianity and it was a) enlightenting and b) scary as h*ll! He is actually a scientist who has made it his life’s mission to learn THE TRUTH about Islam. He is an expert on their “books,” their history, and their “goals” to take over the Western world.   I’m told deceit and lying is acceptable to a muslim as long as it is gone for the advancement of Islam. Additionally, Obama has abandoned Islam which, as I understand, is punishable by death. So, if my comments are correct that would imply Obama is s Muslim using the deceit loophole or he is under a death penalty. Besides this is almost a red herring as the article was about a teacher imposing her religious views on students within a public school system which the supreme court has clearly ruled is against our constitution.

This should be a national story with every news outlet there is. What about this “supposed” freedom from religion that the left talks so much about? Oh that’s right, it only applies to Christians and Jews. There should be outrage from the athiests out there in never never land. Where is the ACLU on this one? You can have all the tolerance in the world if you want, but I don’t have much at all when it comes to musee’s….. They can keep their moon god….. I’ll take the GOD of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob any day of the week. I just wish more people understood that he actually has a name, and it is not “LORD”…. YHWH RULES!!!

Pull all the children out! Shut the school down! Sue the school. How could the secret of child abuse by forcing sharia or muslim prayers or muslim hand signs continue? In L. A. they closed an entire middle school down because they caught two teachers molesting children. I’m sure there is a Christian Church that will be happy to take the States money to teach the Children in a non denominational curriculum setting.

This is a shocking story and all parents should be outraged. This is most likely, not an isolated incident. It is probably being repeated in other schools thru the entire nation. Sometimes it is not reported, sometimes parents shrug it off. Parents with children in public education should be vigilant and report anything that would be pushing the religion of Islam on our American children. Teachers should be summarily dismissed without reassignment or chance to work in the public system again. Wake up America before our freedoms are replaced by Shiria Law. God help us.
