Lawrence O’Donnell Challenges Mitt Romney’s Son to a Fist Fight on MSNBC: ‘Anytime, Anywhere’

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell seemed to think he was trying out for a part in Martin Scorsese’s Boston-based crime flick “The Departed” during his show on Thursday night.

Putting on his best tough guy act, O’Donnell, with a heavier Boston-Irish accent than he usually sports, called out GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s eldest son Tagg Romney for joking in a radio interview that he felt like he wanted to “take a swing” at President Obama after he called his dad a liar in the second presidential debate on Tuesday.

Just for reference, when asked how he felt when Obama called his dad a liar, Tagg said he wanted to “jump” out of his seat and “rush down to the stage and take a swing at him. But you know you can’t do that because, well, first because there’s a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because this is the nature of the process.”

“OK Taggart. Let’s have a little talk, just you and me. You–” O’Donnell began.

He continued: “When I hear you talk about taking a swing and taking punches, why do I get the feeling you have never actually taken a punch, or thrown a punch. I didn’t have that luxury in the part of Boston I grew up in. But in your rich, suburban, Boston life, with your father filling a $100 million trust fund for you. I don’t know, I just get the feeling things were kind of different for you.”

Taking the high road, O’Donnell then made fun of Tagg Romney for having the name “Taggart,” saying he has the right to be “pissed off” for his entire life because of his name.

But then things got awkward. O’Donnell got up out of his chair, called Romney a “liar” and seemingly challenged Tagg Romney to an actual fist fight.

“You’re mad at President Obama for calling your father a liar?” O’Donnell asked rhetorically, a very heavy Irish-Boston accent suddenly present in his voice. “Let’s get something straight. He didn’t call your father a liar. I did. I’ve been saying all year that your father is a liar. I’ve repeatedly said that your father lies and is trying to lie his way into the White House.”

“So, you want to take a swing at someone for calling your old man a liar? Take a swing at me. Come on. Come on,” O’Donnell challenged. “And don’t worry. There won’t be any Secret Service involved. Just us. And I’ll make it easy for you. I’ll come to you. Anytime, anywhere. Go ahead, Taggart. Take your best shot.”

  Tagg, liquidate your trust fund and buy MSNBC.
  Then shut down the network and fire O’Donnell.
  Then buy the bank that holds O’Donnell’s mortgage and seize all of his assets.
  Kick the O’Donnell family out on the street and watch them get divorced
  Hire a camera crew to follow O’Donnell through the streets and back alleyways to film his misery 24/7.
  Take away the cardboard box he’s sleeping in and confiscate the leftover food he got when he rummaged through the trash bin behind Jack in the Box.
  Have a member of the camera crew catch his O’Donnell’s tears in a bottle while the rest of the crew films his suffering.
  Once you get a quart of his tears, have them distilled and drinkable.
  Then sit back, tap into the satellite feed to get a front row seat, and watch as your dad sends a drone strike for O’Donnell, all while you sip on his tears and laugh.

  It’s amazing, it’s astounding, but…it’s unfortunately true.
  
  Part of me would like to tell Romney’s son to step aside so I can punch O’Donnell in his pie hole.
  
  Part of me would love to see Romney in the ring with Obama at Madison Square Garden.
  
  I could say that this is just a sad state of affairs in American politics and we have degraded into school yard name calling, sensationalism that Barnum and Baily would surely be proud of.
  
  But truthfully, this is tame compared to elections of the past where fist fights did actually break out.
  
  So I am some what relieved to know that talk of fisticuffs is all we will we see.
  
  In truth, we are, mixed with the circus acts, battling with ideas. It’s pretty clear what each candidate stands for, at least to some of us. In many respects we are still having the same argument as the first big political fight in this country, the size and role of Government.
  
  Lawrence will never be punched harder in the mouth than the idea that Government does not exist to make your life better, provide you with a home, tuck you in at night, make sure you get to work on time, feed you, cloth you and fix your boo boo’s.
  
  The ideas of smaller Government, individual responsibility and maximum freedom punch above their weight every time.

  Look at the progressives coming apart because the American people might wake up and throw off communism once again.   I’ve often said..even here at the Blaze….that O’Donnell is a seething, unhinged individual who is barely able to hide his unstable nature. He has vindicated me with this latest display of his.
  
  I happened to be switching channels when I saw this last night and it was almost surreal..at first I thought it was a “bit”..but it became abundantly clear as he went on that O’Donnell was actually serious. He’d snapped.
  
  I’m not going to call O’Donnell a journalist as his variety hour is clearly an opinion show, not hard news. But clearly the left media has become so desperate -as it comes to realise that their golden boy is about to lose his first real election- that it’s now resorting to provoking physical confrontations. It’s lashing out in anger and frustration. It’s true nature is showing. O’Donnell has gone beyond just being a partisan pundit. This man is a disaster waiting to happen and MSNBC better realise it quickly. He should be taken off the air immediately.
  
  On a personal note…O’Donnell’s “tough guy of the streets” act wasn’t very convincing either. If was Tagg Romney I’d line up a venue, a time, no friends present, no cell phones/cameras/recording devices, and Marquis of Queensbury rules…then after the fight I’d dump O’Donnell at the nearest emergency room and get him to explain the bruises, swelling and cuts on his next show.

  Two of my “poor sons” serve now, they volunteered.
  
  They went into boot camp as boys and came out men, which is more than I can say for most their age. They also have a job (again, unlike most of their peers) in which they are learning technical skills, discipline and self-reliance. Also, unlike their peers they will graduate without debt, and have several years of experience in their fields to boot.
  
  The military is not for everyone, and the very same people who complain about people who do not have kids serving were the ones protesting the draft in the streets and standing in the airports spitting on returning vets at the airports in 1975.

  You make it sound as though joining the military is this process where you just walk in and the hand you a uniform, but that’s not the way it works.
  
  There are enormous numbers of things that disqualify you from military service, including things you might not know you have until a MEPS doctor examines you. The doc hears something he doesn’t like in your breathing/heart or sees something on your skin other than birthmarks and there’s no “further exam”, you are medically DQ’d on the spot.
  
  These days, basically ANY prior police record is a DQ, including more than 4 moving traffic violations in your entire lifetime. Practically any prior history of drug use is a DQ, as is any surgery in the past 3 (I think that’s the right number) years.
  
  In years past, waivers were available for almost anything. These days even with a stellar (90+) score on the ASVAB you’ll hear these words from your recruiter after you get the boot from MEPS: “No waivers available at this time”.

  Mormon boys play sports in school just like other people’s sons. Many favor wrestling. I have two grandsons in the Marines, my son retired from the Marines, my husband from the Navy. My sister’s son was a West pointer-who took off two years to do his mission, then went back, graduated and served in an elite unit. Mormons serve, it is all voluntary now, some want to, others don’t and there are more ways to serve our country than being in the military. I have daughters who are teachers, who work with inner city kids and try to get them motivated, educated and on the road to being productive citizens. We all love this country, and our patriotism isn’t tied to being military.

  It must suck to be you now. My son is the 4th generation to serve in the US Army. Like all before him he voluntered. All of our service members joined voluntarily. Romeny and I were in college pretty much the same time. He didn’t play the system. He just didn’t get drafted.
  
  BTW, my grandfather joined the Army to fight in the Spanish American War. He had two reasons.
  1. He wanted to get out of the poverty of South Boston. 2. He wanted to beat the Spanish.
  
  My father joined in 1930 to beat the depression and stayed in until 1965.
  
  This means I come from poor people. I could care less about Romney’s wealth.
