Report: Issa’s Benghazi Document Dump Compromises the Identities of Libyans Working With U.S.

House Oversight Committees Benghazi Document Dump Compromises the Identities of Libyans Working With U.S.

WASHINGTON – OCTOBER 10: Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) chairs a hearing on Capitol Hill on October 10, 2012 in Washington, DC. The hearing before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee focused on the security situation in Benghazi leading up to the September 11 attack that resulted in the assassination of U.S. Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens. (Credit: Getty Images)

In the spirit of transparency, House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) on Friday released 166 pages of unclassified State Department communications regarding Libya. But hidden in the scores of documents were the unretracted names of several Libyans working with the U.S. government.

Obama administration officials say Issa’s document dump has compromised several Libyans working with the U.S. and put their lives at risk, Foreign Policy’s Josh Rogin reports.

Issa posted the sensitive State Department documents on the House Oversight Committee’s website Friday afternoon as part of his investigation into the security errors and multiple inconsistencies in the Obama administration’s evolving story relating to the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. The attack left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.

However, now the documents are getting attention for all the wrong reasons. Foreign Policy has more details:

Issa didn’t bother to retract the names of Libyan civilians and local leaders mentioned in the cables, and just as with the WikiLeaks dump of State Department cables last year, the administration says that Issa has done damage to U.S. efforts to work with those Libyans and exposed them to physical danger from the very groups that had an interest in attacking the U.S. consulate.

“Much like WikiLeaks, when you dump a bunch of documents into the ether, there are a lot of unintended consequences,” an administration official told The Cable Friday afternoon. “This does damage to the individuals because they are named, danger to security cooperation because these are militias and groups that we work with and that is now well known, and danger to the investigation, because these people could help us down the road.”

[…]

One administration official accused Issa of doing harm to the investigation for the sake of creating negative news stories days before the final presidential debate, which will focus on foreign policy. In previous investigations, Issa has acknowledged and respected the need to protect information that could be important to completing the administration’s own investigations, the official noted.

“He’s trying to gather all the facts, but he’s blurting out all the evidence before the State Department and FBI investigation is done,” the official said.

Among the Libyans reportedly identified in the communications are a female human rights activist, a Benghazi port manager and a local militia commander.

House Oversight Committee spokesman Frederick Hill defended the document release, saying the State Department has not complained to them directly so far.

“Certainly there are people who made reckless decisions and put lives in danger in this situation and these people have motivations to discredit efforts to hold them accountable rather than having their true motivations be the security of people on the ground,” Hill said.

When Democrats exposed the name of the doctor who help us with O.B.L., there are now in jail, they seams like that was just fine with that decision, or when they released confidential information to that MSM to make Obama looked good, I don’t remember they fell that way about people’s life.

That was my first thought. I’ve been really concerned about that doctor and his family. Maybe Issa just got so disgusted with this whole administration that he just acted. I’d like to hear his side of the story first, because I’ve been supporting his efforts to get the truth about Fast and Furious.

Is it as just as dumbfounding to all you patriots out there at how dark the activities in the W.H. and in Congressional halls have truly become?

The FBI took weeks to get to Benghazi. So I have 0 faith that the administration is conducting an investigation. I have 100% faith that they are conducting a delaying tactic & will exculpate themselves at the end.

I watched Brett Baier’s report on the Benghazi attack. Obama told so many lies. The Obama administration said the Republicans cut the State Department budget & therefore there was no funding for 16 man Site Security Teams. The Pentagon provided the teams free of charge to the State Department. Typical of the Democrats to lie BRAZENLY!.

Like anybody else here who has had the responsibility to handle secured information, this story to me stinks to the high heavens. Not to be a conspiracy theorist, nor a member of the tin foil hat club, the first thing that jumped out at me after reading the headlines, then the first of the story. These 166 pages came from the State Department and were marked as UNCLASSIFIED. At the very least they should have been packaged as CONFIDENTIAL if they had names in them that should be kept under wraps. Issa has been a huge thorn in the side of the Administration lately, and this looks like a bit of pay back time. Naturally, Holder will not take a look at Hillary, but will go after Issa, and as one would expect, with zeal. Let’s see where this goes.

Did you hear that the new CLAIM or SPIN is that the Benghazi attack was a kidnapping gone wrong (http://www.thedailycandidate.com/video/2012/oct/benghazi_botched_kidnapping.html ). This does actually make some sense.

It might be a little easier if the President didnt treat his branch ike they were above the law. You know, by refusing oversight by the represenatives of the people. You are probably one of the “people”, so why you would be supportive of this raises a few questions. The first one that come to mind is, are you looking foward to being a subject of an unchecked and out of control government official that doesnt recognized any limits to his power? I know-I know, you not beleive that this President ever went on Univision and told the group that the Constitution didnt act unilateraly on immigration. Then he did it anyway.
Secondly, dont you find it odd that the President (or the President designates) declassified this information, gave it to Issa then complained. If nothing smells to you in that, then your pretty gullible.

The administration of Barack Hussein Obama will go down in history as one of the most inept ever.

They killed Chris Stevens as surely as if they had pulled the trigger themselves. You put an openly gay guy in the middle of a Muslim _issing match to negotiate an arms give-away program to Al Qaeda elements, and figure that because he has a fancy title, he’ll be safe from the savages? When the sub-humans dragged him through the streets of Benghazi while he was still alive, sodomizing him for his homosexuality, was that graphic enough for the Obama idiots in DC?

Did Obama and those liberal idiots really think that they were going to change Muslim attitudes towards gays? Then, when the poor sacrificial lamb bleats that he figures his life is in danger, you disregard his pleadings and allow him to be slaughtered?

What will Obama pull off between 7 Nov and January 2013?

I think the Al Qaeda peple in Benghazi already know who is who.

I don’t think not redacting the name helps.

Even if you redacted the names, knowing the position/title of the person or what they do, makes it pretty easy to figure out who who they are. Which leaves us with doing nothing, if Obama had his way. Holding hearings behind closed doors is not enough. You must publicize or the liberal media controls the narrative.
FOXNEWS might have the biggest bullhorn, but the liberla media has more of them so they control more than 50% of the broadcasts. Glenn reported how the liberal media (MSKM) reported the Al Smith dinner attended by Obama m & Romney. They reported that Obama met with Catholics & Romney met hobnobbed with rich people. That reporting is criminal!

Do you know what other affect Benghazi will have other than Republicans using it as an election tool? It’s helps simmer down Fast and Furious in the mind of Americans, and in addition to that any children who are probably under 20 years of age 9/11 will become about Benghazi instead of the WTC. But I know the money worshiping Republicans only care about the election side of it.

In regards to that linked article, let’s see…
Do I think that, ”one’s personal and/or national ‘way of life’ is under attack and is either already lost or that the threat is imminent.”  -  Check
Do I hold, “individual liberty [in high regard]?  -  Check Am I “suspicious of centralized federal authority”?  -  Check
Do I think that the “end-time prophecies” are unfolding?  -  Check
      Am I a veteran?  -  Nope

4 out of 5 ain’t bad. If I could rewind time it would be 5 out of 5. As it is… up is down, right is wrong and to love God, freedom, life, your fellow man and your country means you want to be a murderer (because that is what a terrorist is), and end up in Hell for all eternity. Yeah… that makes a lot of sense. These nut jobs who “think” they are protecting this Nation are going to have a rude awakening when they have their “private time” with God.

This is messed up. In approximately 1987 Sudam Insane was paraded through the Umatilla Army Depot, and Hanford Washington. Although you don’t have that Hanford intel, I do! They did this because they wnated an over measured response to the 1979 Hostage Crisis in Iran. BTW we are still dealing with those jerks. I digress, and I’m sorta sorry. We did so to Squash Iran. We actually had good reason to believe in ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ in Iraq. We taught them how to make them. Even more ugly is that we sold them a carbide tool company from Florida, as I remember it. Bottom Line: We went in to destroy that uglyness which we created!!!! History is repeating itself here. Somehow poor old Dora is under the beleife that NewJersey has cat taxes for the last 30 years.
So McGreevey & Corzine cut taxes? About says it all you need to know about Dora.

But Dora the New Jersey resident voted for McGreevey & Corzine happily, but wishes Christies dead.
Par for the course for a Huffpo reader?

I think he is over 60 years old & doesn’t have much to do except b/itch online. :)

Is Dora the same as the Voice_of_Reason (voice of UnReason). He used the same icon as the Voice_of_UnReason. Gotta have a sock puppet I guess.

Not sure who the real Dora Glasberg is. He appears to dwell on the east coast.

What ever. News pollster try to use polls to demoralize the base. Trolls try to do the same thing online.

Smile people. Glasberg is a gasbag. :)

The free world is literally in the balance on this issue of the Libya cover up as the obama regime and the mainstream media have nowhere to hide.

    More to follow!

Lets not pretend that Obama wouldn’t have gotten around to screwing that up to. He’s a little busy trying to get some crap to stick to the Libyan wall as it is. Besides he’s made a strategic sift in policy from blaming Bush to blaming Romney. So it’s Romney’s fault.
