Smelly Diaper Gets Mom and Sick Baby Kicked Off Seattle Bus

SEATTLE (TheBlaze/AP) — Metro Transit in Seattle has apologized but says it won’t discipline the driver who asked a woman with a baby to get off a bus because of a stinky diaper.
Metro told KOMO the driver did not violate policy when she acted for the comfort of other passengers.
An apology is not enough for the mother, Nichole Hakimian, who threatens to sue.
Here’s how the exchange went according to Hakimian:
“I said, ‘He has diarrhea. I’m on my way to a doctor’s appointment for him. She said, ‘I’m sorry. It’s unbearable. You need to get off the bus,”‘ she said.
Hakimian said the driver insisted she get off even when she told the driver she only had two more stops to go.
“She said, ‘Well, I’m sorry. It’s just unbearable. You need to get off the bus,’” she said. “Nobody (else) on the bus was complaining at all.”
Watch the report:
Hakimian says she found a place to change the baby and caught another bus to the clinic where her son was diagnosed with a stomach bug.
Metro says the driver is a nine-year employee with an excellent record.
“This is a very unique situation. Our goal is always to balance the comfort of all of our riders with providing good customer service. The driver didn’t violate Metro policy – she felt she had to advocate for her passengers by politely and apologetically asking the woman to exit the bus,” Metro said in a statement.
On Thursday, KOMO reportedΒ Hakimian saying she felt discriminated against and bullied in the incident.
“[...] it made me feel like crap. It really did,” Hakimian told KOMO.

Posted on October 19, 2012 at 2:55pmThe same when the smelly diaper crowd is at a public dining facility, ignoring the fact they are ruining the meal experience of everyone else but ate too lazy to go change the the little critter’s nappy. I’ll be she doesn’t carry plastic bags for the soiled diapers either. The world revolves around THEM. These spoiled Progressives thankfully inhabit primarily the more dense urban zones.

I wonder if she threw the diaper, all taped shut, onto the pavement like they do here in Texas. I hate pulling into a parking spot somewhere and seeing a folded up, soiled diaper on the ground.

Posted on October 19, 2012 at 2:35pmThere are three lines in this story which say it all:
1) Hakimian says she found a place to change the baby and caught another bus to the clinic where her son was diagnosed with a stomach bug.
The world didn’t end when she got off that bus, did it? Her baby didn’t die, no harm came to anyone. This is what she should’ve done in the first place. If it were me, I’d be embarrassed by the smell and I’d be concerned for the other passengers and I’d get off the bus all on my own.
2) On Thursday, KOMO reported Hakimian saying she felt discriminated against and bullied in the incident.
Ah, there’s two big buzzwords in there: “discriminated” and “bullied”. Those two words almost always lead to a third word: lawsuit
3) it made me feel like crap
There’s the cherry on top, it made her FEEL bad. Nobody cares about your stupid feelings lady. She’s all worried about FEELING like crap without a concern in the world for all her fellow passengers who had to SMELL her crap.
In short, she’s a selfish pig of a woman.

Posted on October 19, 2012 at 2:51pmI can’t believe all the self righteous, idiot comments on this! It was a child, not some purse dog! She was taking her son to the doctor. I cannot imagine that the bus was her first choice to get him there. The key word is “Public” transportation.
There is common courtesy, but it swings both ways. It is a conservative belief to be tolerant of other peoples ideas and yes, smells.Could she have got off the bus? Yes. Did anyone else complain except the driver? No. We don’t even know how long she on the bus or how long the kid had been stinking it up. We do know that she was just 2 stops from her destination. Suck it up and let her go the last couple of blocks!

Posted on October 19, 2012 at 3:03pmActually, it is the complainers who are selfish.
It is normal for a 1 year old to need to have a diaper change.
It is NOT normal for the adults in the vicinity to act like children, and not let the lady get to her destination before changing it.
Perhaps she should have just changed him on the bus? Would that make you happy?

There’s this fun thing in society today which could be paraphrased as the “it’s for the children” mentality. Which is to say, the rights and well-being of children eclipse absolutely everything else in the universe. So if it had been a dog stinking up the bus, you’d be ok with tossing her out. If the woman herself was stinking up the bus, you’d be ok with tossing her out. But because it was a child stinking up the bus, it’s horrible and inhuman to even suggest that the woman be tossed off the bus.
The point is, as stated right there in the story, absolutely no harm came from tossing her off the bus. The kid still made it to the doctor, nobody was hurt, nothing bad happened whatsoever except that mom was mildly inconvenienced. That’s it. Mom was mildly inconvenienced by the ordeal.
Thus, we’re balancing on one hand mom trying to avoid being mildly inconvenienced, and the bus driver trying to avoid his busload of passengers having to endure the reek of baby poo. To me it’s a no-brainer that the comfort of an entire busload of passengers outweighs the mild inconvenience of one passenger. But, apparently, since that one passenger is with child, well I guess that should trump absolutely every other factor involved, eh? The comfort of all the other passengers should be set aside becasue the one passenger being mildly inconvenienced has a child.

Posted on October 19, 2012 at 3:28pmI have 3 girls and when they were babies, I changed them when they smelled. Of course, I didn’t use public transportation, but even if driving in a car, I would change them and not let them sit in a dirty diaper, because it’s just going to cause a rash. Back then, some places didn’t have the ironing board baby changing tables and I had to do it however I could, even if it was the back seat of the car.
The point is, I was considerate of others and I think that is what Balthazor is saying. Nowadays, people are getting waaay too inconsiderate. SO inconsiderate, that they park in handicap spaces, use the handicap carts (fatty-can’t walk-only handicap is their mouth), stand in middle of store aisles and don’t move unless you say something. I HATE going out anymore, because people are SO inconsiderate and self-centered.

No, what would’ve made me happy is what ended up happening anyhow: get off the bus and change the baby and catch the next bus, or walk the few remaining blocks to the appointment. It’s pretty widely regarded as common courtesy for parents who bring small children to movies to take the child out of the movie should they start crying. How does the same not apply here? By your reasoning, it would be selfish of the other moviegoers to expect parents to remove crying babies from the theater.
Bottom line: having children brings about a variety of inconveniences, such as having to leave a theater or restaurant when the child starts crying, or having to leave a confined public place when the child drops a stink bomb. This woman appeared to want everyone else to be inconvenienced by her child so that she wouldn’t have to be. No, it’s her child, if there’s any inconvenience to be had they should be had by her. And to actually consider filing a lawsuit over that inconvenience, well it leads me to the conclusion that she’s a selfish pig. Your mileage may vary.

Posted on October 20, 2012 at 9:54amBalthazor has it right on this one. She needed to act like an adult and get off the bus and change the diaper. I don’t care if she is 4 months pregnant, that isn’t so far along that she couldn’t get off the bus, change the diaper, and catch the next one. There are no windows that can be opened and a child with a stomach virus will produce the most nauseating smell on the planet – anyone who has had kids knows this. It doesn’t matter if the other passengers didn’t complain, most people don’t because bimbos like this tend to go off their rockers when you suggest they take the smelling crap they produced with the nearest drug addict off the bus. It’s like asking one of these baby factories to take the screaming brat out of the theater.
I hope she felt bullied and intimidated. She needs a reminder that she and her spawn aren’t the most important things on the planet.

Posted on October 20, 2012 at 8:56pmI wonder how many other riders on that bus come down with a stomach virus thanks to the woman taking her sick child onto the bus. Only thinking about herself here – not caring one iota for people who could have compromised immune systems, etc. keep your sick kids to yourselves, or take a taxi – exposing fewer people to the sickness. I hope she washed her hands after changing the baby instead of touching all the seats, handle bars, etc. I side with the bus driver.

Posted on October 19, 2012 at 2:32pmEach passenger that day needs to counter sue the mother for exposing them to potentially viral fecal matter. I sympathize with the child’s illness. But once again, this is what happens when mothers are ‘child centered’. NOBODY else matters. The stink was only indicative of the potential health risk. There is a reason why all restaurants and other public places are required by law to have “Please wash hands before returning to work” in the bathrooms. One woman’s diarrhea laden, stomach bugged, child is another’s potential situation later on. Take a cab if the child was that sick. She had to wait a long time for the bus to even get to the stop she originally boarded on.

The point here is she had a kid, she can’t tell the kid when he can and can’t go to the bathroom, especialy with a stomach bug.

“Child centered”? Um, duh, she’s a mom. Of course her life is child centered. Again, as a parent, my kids come first. If you can’t handle a little bit of a smell or some crying, you need to do a reality check.

Posted on October 19, 2012 at 2:25pmOk so I just have to tell my hilarious story about when I was a baby. My mom and I were flying to California and I had been sick recently but was fine the whole way there… Until I all of a sudden had an insane amount of white diarrhea and my mom had to use a trash bag because my diaper just didn’t cut it. Plus, it started sliding on the floor to the seats in front of us and it smelled horrible. Long story short, once we landed, a hazmat team had to come in wearing the full body suits and everything to clean it up. Thamkfully, since I was a baby at the time, I remember none of this. lol
