Off-Duty Police Officers Fatally Shoot ‘Naked and Irrational’ Female

(TheBlaze/AP) — Authorities say two off-duty Florida law-enforcement officers fatally shot an “armed, naked and irrational female” who confronted them at a social gathering.

The shooting occurred sometime Saturday in Hernando County.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, had apparently acting strangely the whole night. After she took off her clothes and left, someone called 911.

However, she soon returned with a weapon and approached the two police officers. After that, the county sheriff’s office report says, “one or both of the law enforcement officers fired their weapons, striking the female.”

The report does not specify what type of weapon the woman returned with, but it does say she died at the scene.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.

Authorities have identified the officers as Hernando County sheriff’s Detective Rocky Howard and Tampa police officer William Mechler, who have served six and four years, respectively. Tampa police say Mechler was “off duty and acting in the capacity of a private citizen.”

A man who lived nearby simply commented: “It’s just the weirdest…It’s just strange.”

I dont doubt this story, I once had a run in with a strange fellow on a road called card sound road, just south of miami and unfortunately, in our county. Seem this fellow was “fishing” and doing a bit of “meth” and something went “wrong” and he started to attack passing cars with his clothing. by the time we got there he was “fabric free” so to speak and crazy! Well a long story short nobody want to wrestle with the nekked guy so of course it fell to me. tried to talk to him, tried to pepper spray when he went after me, so, no choice I jumped on his back and proceeded to try and restrain him, two others joined the fray and we thought we had subdued this physco, no such luck one guy holing ech leg and me on his back, the dude still got up and ran down the road. Then he just collapsed….and died! What the…ME said his heart exploded, Oh they found PCP, Meth, Heroin and a lot of other drugs in his blood.
So if it happens in FL, it dont suprise me anymore.

  @person above me I forgot your name – yeah I should be asleep and on my meds but I have been feeling pretty rowdy all night. Just trying to help correct people’s mistakes. Spreading joy throughout the world and **** like that. I am not an anarchist so everyone can break their defensive formations, calm down, and take it easy.
  
  Here’s something to think about (the police are not required to protect you):
  
  In Warren v. District of Columbia (1981), the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled, “police personnel and the government employing them are not generally liable to victims of criminal acts for failure to provide adequate police protection . . . . [A] government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any particular citizen.” In Bowers v. DeVito (1982), the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled “[T]here is no constitutional right to be protected by the state against being murdered by criminals or madmen.”
  
  Basically, these court precedents (I’m guessing) makes it clear that no citizen is entitled to use police as protection or bodyguards. What about witnesses in murder trials where there is a credible threat that their safety is compromised?
  
  Yes, we need police but the quality of police officers is pretty terrible and it’s not really something to aspire to. Smarter cops become detectives while the rest are held back because of their low IQ and short temper.

  Don’t you think if she had been wielding a gun that they would have included that in their initial report?? The fact that they just say “weapon” makes me think she did not have a gun. Either way, it won’t matter in the end because both officers are long-time friends so neither would give the other up for any wrong doing.
  
  btw please don’t compare the police to the military. The military will always have my respect but the police are citizens just like you and me.

  Cops should not to be respected anymore. Don’t even talk to them. Give them ID and say nothing to these killers. They are allowed to lie to you. They are uniformed gang members of a legalized criminal enterprise. The cars say “to protect and serve.” We all know thats a lie. They protect their **** first and their buddy’s next. If they don’t like you, you are brutally beat, cited, tazed, or even killed on their whim. The code of silence protects fellow cops and they answer to no one except another cop who covers. It’s all out war on the citizens of America. These gang members extort funds and are expected by the gov. to carry their weight in raping the pockets of decent people.
  Their first words are always “Hi” “How you doing” and then they go for the throat. I don’t care if these killers are suppose to put their life on the line. That’s what they are paid for and most of the time they sit around and eat donuts. The unions protect them the minute they are accused and the gov., or taxpayers, picks up the tab for any verdict. They get overtime pay for sitting in court if you decide to fight a charge. Many of them make six figures with overtime. Cops today are the **** of the earth.

  Ether you are right or you are mentally ill. What you call spreading the “gospel” I call silencing other schools of thought through your religious propaganda videos. I can’t ascribe to any religion that just teaches negativity and loathing towards others. Most of your comments/videos are attacking someone else’s religion – Mormons, Atheists, Christians, Jews, etc – so I really fail to see how you are spreading the gospel. I do not doubt that you fully believe what you say but your videos are just spooky as in I think I will read the news one day about a person going on a shooting spree before killing himself and it’ll be you.   @nofx – You might want to research your ‘rapture’ belief. ‘The Rapture’ is NOT scripture, it was a dream that a preacher had of which he told his congregation at the turn of the 20th century, can’t remember the exact year, I think it was before 1920. Revelations is quite descriptive about the suffering of the saints during the calamity leading up to Christ’s return, of the martyrs who will die for the word and for not taking the mark of the beast. So if this is in Revelations it sure doesn’t sound like the saints will be taken up by God before the wars, violence, and martyrdom. Research it, think it through, and pray for the right answer.

Females are usually irrational. Most likely the cops made her give them a show and then shot her when she objected. No warning shot, nor any shots to the legs. They go for the kill every time and they don’t stop pulling that trigger until it goes *click*

  Obvious you have no knowledge of the use of force. If you pull your firearm and fire, you are firing for the kill. Look up the rules of force for the military, police, or anyone that carries a firearm. Leg shots are only in the movies, in real life that will get you put in prison.

  Yeah….I don’t see anywhere in the story (so far) that the female even fired a shot or even pointed whatever weapon at the cops. If the person is on drugs, then most everyone on here seems to think that somehow makes it okay to use deadly force. I have been through my college crazy alcohol and drug days and I never had a police incident. They usually just incapacitate you. I just think a person’s life is valuable – even a strung out naked woman’s life – and police seem to be more and more liberal about where deadly force is justified. They keep the laws slightly vague so it’s left up to their judgement; and since every cop’s individual judgement is unique, some will try to catch the person alive while others just can’t wait to pull that trigger.

  Yeah, I agree, the shoot to kill metality has got to stop. If a regular citizen shot to kill at the drop of a hat like cops do they would be up on murder charges. But, you know what? Cops get off on others being afraid of them. They want everybody to think that their lives are but seconds away from being taken if they don’t lick their boots. They love that reputation. It is only going to work against them in the long run. It looks like it already has. . . .   and most departments are not training to double tap the head… they are strictly instructed to shoot center mass (partly to minimize those embarrassing 52 shots were fired, no one was injured incidents).

  Shooting to wound is more dangerous than shooting to kill. Granted when taught as procedure it is not shoot to kill but “shoot to end the threat”. When shooting in a high stress situation (not at the range or in training where you have time to take aim) you shoot quickly which makes it harder to be accurate. Shooting a moving target is hard, extremities are small making it even more difficult. If you miss you risk hitting an innocent person. Not to mention someone with a weapon can still shoot back or fight back with a wounded leg. Head shots are equally as dangerous. You shoot center mass because it is the easiest target to hit and can effectively end a dangerous situation. Shooting to wound is for Hollywood only.

  What cops have you been dealing with? I have dealt with several while they are on duty and other off duty. I have never had one problem. Which laws have you gotten in trouble and did not know you were breaking the law? More and more cops answer to the public, there are several lawsuits dealing with cops and use of force. Ever increasing are ways that cops can be held liable for their actions. Are there bad cops sure there are, but there are many good cops, you just dont hear about them in the news because it is a much more compelling story to talk about how they shot some one, not how they saved a woman from getting beaten within an inch of her life by a drunken husband.

Taking a life is serious business, the bar is set incredibly low for police officers, and I expect better service and more professionalism when my taxes help pay for the cops’ salaries. Many of them even admit that over time they start to only see the bad in people. Most cops are not self starters, so they need someone to always tell them what to do. This creates a problem because they don’t think for themselves so never expect to have a civil conversation with a cop. Every cop I’ve personally known has had a history of domestic violence against their spouse and children. Just stating the general facts.

  The story is sketchy (as in she was shot on her property) and who knows what really happened – I’m not sure where you guys are getting the idea that if a person is on drugs and on their property then it’s okay to kill them. Any idiot can pull a trigger. What police lack are the skills to even carry on a civil conversation especially since they are not ranked higher than any other individual. No shot was reported on her end; I think some cops just wanted to dump some ammo.

Would you be back slapping the cops and laughing as hard then? All speculation of course. I don’t have a problem with legitimate self defense, but a lot of people are getting killed for nothing. Sooner or later tragedy finds all families. It is how life works. Nobody escapes that reality. It finds the families of police officers as well.

  Do you realize the dangers that come with shooting to wound? All of a sudden you are asking them to shoot a small and very difficult target, they miss and you run the risk of hitting a bystander. I admit the story is sketchy at best, but until more information comes I will not be as quick as you to condemn the officers actions. Depending on the weapon she had they could have been well within rational action. Are some officers quick on the trigger sure, but to paint with such a broad brush is dangerous. There is a reason center mass is the region that all CCW, Police, and Military train to aim at. Hitting moving limbs is very dangerous and difficult. They also are trained to avoid heat shots for the same reason.

With all of the shootings occurring these days, one must wonder what is really going on. Personally I believe that the media is reporting more of them to get guns out of citizens hands. Obama was the president of the Joyce Foundation, it really only makes sense. He is completing the global transformation of the end of America and the birth of communism. Communism does not allow people to have guns, unless you are a criminal of course.

Just a thought…

  I don’t know. Sounds like this woman stripped, left, came back “with a weapon” and confronted these two cops who then shot her dead.
  
  There’s a lot of conspicuous details left out of the story. I’m interested to find out what connection existed between the cops and the woman beyond the fact they all happened to be at this party together.

I don’t know. There is something that doesn’t pass the smell test. I’m all for the second amendment and all, as well as the right of self defense. The never said armed, they claimed “a weapon”. What was it? A bad attitude? This whole thing stinks on ice. I just hope it doesn’t get put in the same barrel as the marten mess.

  The agenda is to make every single American shake in their boots at the thought of getting out of line because if you do the big bad cops will gun you down. It is to stay in control of the racket. Cops and politicians are 2 peas in a pod when it comes to covering for each others illegalities. They like things just the way they are because they get theirs no matter what even if they have to kill you to get it.

  There will always be those few who turn a subject into a mindless predictable sexual innuendo, or another predictable joke. Over all they aren’t saying anything that isn’t said 100′s of times per day by millions of people, and is like saying nothing at all. Hollywood needs more people like that for their fruitless sitcoms. You missed your calling.

The Police Acted stupidly

From the fair and balanced with an agenda AP and the Blaze which is sullied every time they do a joint report with AP. Just get the report out that has so many unknowns which is always the case when the police acted stupidly. And never a follow report that proves what the police did was justified. Just get the first slim report out to create the meme that no matter what and when police do something, it is because they are just crazed murders with a badge.

Just how many death by a guns happen this weekend that will not be covered as it was not a police weapon that did it. Only murders by cops are important.

So what? If a cop says FREEZE and you don’t… then die knowing you were stupid. I don’t care WHAT her problem was… not a problem now. Sad she had to die but there it is. And YES I WOULD say the same if it were my kid.

  If I see a cop trespassing on my posted property without my permission and I yell “freeze” and he/she doesn’t immediately obey, am I legally OK then to shoot him/her? Because that’s what will happen regardless of the legalities in that situation, same as any other person trespassing on my property that acted in the same manner when confronted.

I was wondering where in Hernando County since it is not exactly a small area. Found another story online that puts the crime scene in or near Spring Hill, from what I recall, a small town just to the North of Tampa.

Something doesn’t swing right here.

Why wouldn’t they tell what type of weapon the girl had, especially if it was so bad 2 armed men felt the need to shoot her down?

Don’t have the facts, so this is a valid question IMO.

  30+ years ago two cops, sting out in the street, put 13 bullets in an old woman standing on her porch with a kitchen knife in her hand. That was LA. Looks like Florida teaches the same tactics to their cops

  They probably raped her, she got mad, came back for vengence, and they shot her to keep her quiet. Notice how many of the details are left out. All this is supposition of course but I would not put any of it past cops these days.
