Troubling? Putin Oversees Largest Russian Nuclear Tests Since the Cold War

(Photo: AP)
Amid international calls for nuclear disarmament, Russia has launched the most comprehensive tests on its nuclear arsenal since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Kremlin said Saturday.
Reuters relates:
The exercises, held mostly on Friday, featured prominently in news reports on state television which seemed aimed to show Russians and the world that Putin is the hands-on chief of a resurgent power.
Tests involving command systems and all three components of the nuclear “triad” – land and sea-launched long-range nuclear missiles and strategic bombers – were conducted “under the personal leadership of Vladimir Putin”, the Kremlin said.
[...]
“Exercises of the strategic nuclear forces were conducted on such a scale for the first time in the modern history of Russia,” the Kremlin statement [added].
“Vladimir Putin gave a high evaluation to the combat units and crews and the work of the Armed Forces General Staff, which fulfilled the tasks before them and affirmed the reliability and effectiveness of Russia’s nuclear forces.” [Emphasis added]
In 2010, the United States and Russia agreed to scale back their nuclear arsenals to no more than 1,550 warheads by 2018.Β However, while Putin appears to be fine-tuning his arsenal, President Obama has made his commitment to total nuclear disarmament perfectly clear.
“I state clearly and with conviction America’s commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons,” he said to a Nobel Peace Prize panel shortly after he was elected.Β “This goal will not be reached quickly – perhaps not in my lifetime. It will take patience and persistence.”
Republicans have harshly criticized the president’s ambitions, however, saying it is highly unlikely our enemies will follow our lead.Β On the contrary, they will likely just grow bolder as the balance swings in their favor.

Posted on October 20, 2012 at 8:10pmCLINTON AND OBAMA HAVE DISARMED AMERICA.
Bush attempted to rebuild nuclear weapons Clinton dismantled but Democrats in the Senate refused to fund the modernization. Bush wanted to test some of our weapons from our stock pile to see if they still work and Democrats vetoed his request. For all practical purposes, the USA is now a non-nuclear state.
The Clinton and Obama administrations have shut down and dismantled the National Labs that did nuclear weapons research and weapons manufacturing. Even if America wanted to rebuild its nuclear weapons, we cannot do it now.

What do you expect from a guy that’s been president 3 times, secretary of state twice and in power for the last 20 years? But it’s a democratic state now. Right. And on top of it our wonderful MSM portrays this guy as a reformer whose policies have turned Russia’s economy around and made the whole country happy by eliminating poverty, increasing exports, building a military and increasing GDP.
Of course it’s easy to do all of that when the country was starting at zero when things collapsed in the early 90′s, anything you do to improve the situation will make you smell like a rose. Problem is this guy is a former KGB agent who loves communism and is trying to take the country back to communist rule. So go ahead Russia, have at it. Don’t expect us to bail you out again.

Posted on October 20, 2012 at 6:55pmRight, two important points here:
Firstly, in light of the blatant, virulently anti-Western threat from the now totally Islamist Middle East, it is clear that ALL non-Muslim nations should unite!
Secondly, in regards to Obama’s dopey goal of ‘scaling back’ our nuclear arsenals, I say: “Oh, that is just divine! Leave us even weaker in the face of a Caliphate why don’t you”.
Russia needs to give its bulbous red head a shake. And Obama is just an old, crusty Marxist/Leftist.

Posted on October 20, 2012 at 8:59pmThe TEA party, via their calls for totally defunding the DOE, is calling for the total elimination of our nuclear stockpile. This is due to the minor detail of the DOE owning all the nuclear weapons, doing all the design and testing.
So the TEA party wishes to totally disarm the US given the result of their previous statements.
