Jordan Says It Has Foiled an Al-Qaeda Terror Plot to Bomb Shopping Centers & Assassinate Western Diplomats

Jordan foiled a major plot by an al Qaeda-linked cell to destabilize the country’s security by bombing shopping centers and assassinating Western diplomats, state television said on Sunday.

It quoted security forces as saying they had detained 11 suspects and that the plot had been going on since June to carry out attacks in the capital Amman using smuggled weapons and explosives brought from Syria.

Associated Press:

Government spokesman Sameeh Maaytah says the suspects are all Jordanian and are in police custody.

He said the men had brought in arms from neighboring Syria to use them in the alleged plot. He also said Al-Qaeda operatives based in Iraq have been assisting the suspects with manufacturing home-made explosives.

He said on Sunday that Jordanian intelligence agents arrested the suspects in the past few days.

Wait just a minute here……….how in the wide world of sports is this story accurate? There are two items in the headline that just do not belong in the same sentence.

Killing western diplomats is NOT a terrorist act.

The current administration says this…………so it must be so.

HOORAY! Jordan foiled a TERROR PLOT! Let’s send Jordan LOTS AND LOTS of MONEY! We will be SAFE if we send Jordan BIG BUCKETS OF FOREIGN AID! Yippee!

Oh, no, wait a second, on second thought, I will TAKE MY CHANCES at the grocery store. So, NO MONEY for little ol’ JORDAN! In fact, no foreign aid at all! The MORONS at the state dept have been “buying the peace” for years and look where we are: BROKE! So we will just take our chances, Jordan, thanks though!

  Um, you do your shopping in Jordan? That seems like it would be one hell of an inconvenience. The article CLEARLY states the zealots were targeting the Jordanian capitol of Amman. Just saying…. I think you can consider yourself relatively safe at the local Piggly Wiggly.

Heard on BBC this morning that there is new unrest in Kuwait. Guess this is just more of the effects of that stellar Obama/ Clinton foreign policy ??! All of the Islamic militants are so inspired by the Obama ” out reach.”

  Jordan is, for what it’s worth in the Muslim-dominated Middle East, a more secular and modern country than some of its neighbors. Now, that might be like comparing a mad hatter to a raging lunatic, but I’m a bit biased as I know some Jordanians. They sure as hell don’t seem like bloodthirsy zealots… but maybe that’s because that element is held in check to some extent within Jordan.
  I believe the one thing we need to remember before jumping on the “F’ Jordon” bandwagon is that look what happens when any country in the Middle East is destabilized. Yeah, let’s wish ill upon (or at least question) a country that has been more of an ally than most in that region and is making (allegedly) more than a token effort to hold the real nuts at bay in its own borders.
  How many Middle Eastern countries are finding out thru the ‘Arab Spring’ where their real enemy lies?
  And what really out to make you shake your head is the Jordanians appear, at this point, more proactive & competent than counterparts from the U.S. Go figure. But is that really a difficult bar to get over? Meh, we’ll see as this develops if it is spin. I suspect some folks across the Middle East don’t want murderous, Bronze Age zealots calling the shots.

Jay: “We don’t want to comment because we are still gathering information on this evolving situation. Susan Rice will be holding a press conference within 5 days to fully address this issue. Early indications are that the conflict was a spontaneous event in response to a silly Youtube video.”

  Why does everything with “Brotherhood” in its name always try to destroy anything that actually works? Or they don’t want to work toward?
  Jordan, (King Abdullah), is one of the few (maybe only) decent progressive leader in all of the Mohammeds’ worlds. Google him.
  Seems I remember when he inherited the throne, he made all the men shave off their beards (due to the Islamist threat). He is pretty Westernized without the bribery and payoffs.
  Oh, and when I say progressive, in his case, it isn’t the same progressivism that currently infects the democrat party in America.
