Police: 3 Dead in Milwaukee Spa Shooting, Suspect Found Deceased

Multiple People Shot at Spa Near Suburban Milwaukee Mall

Police respond to a call of a shooting at the Azana Spa in Brookfield, Wis. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. Multiple people were wounded when someone opened fire at the spa near the Brookfield Square Mall. Deputies were still looking for the gunman. (AP)

A man police suspected of killing three and wounding four by opening fire at a tranquil day spa was found dead Sunday afternoon following a six-hour manhunt that locked down a shopping center, country club and hospital in suburban Milwaukee.

Police told WTMJ-TV the shooting occurred around 11 a.m. at the Azana Spa across the street from the Brookfield Square Mall.  Seven people were transported from the scene to area hospitals, four with non-life-threatening injuries.

A bomb squad was on the scene Sunday afternoon dealing with an unknown “device,” slowing the search of the spa considerably.  However, police say the suspect was found inside the spa, having perished of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

David Gosh told the Journal Sentinel he was returning from duck hunting when he saw a woman run screaming into traffic this morning.

“She ran right out into the street was was pounding on cars,” Gosh said.

Shortly thereafter, Gosh said a large black man with a handgun ran out and seemed to be chasing her. Police were arriving at that point, he said, and the gunman ran either back into the building or into the woods behind the building.

The suspect has been identified as Radcliffe Haughton:

“He was the shooter,” Gosh told the newspaper. “He was looking for an escape route.”

WTMJ reported the shooting stemmed from a domestic conflict between the gunman and one the spa’s hair stylists.  He apparently slashed the woman’s tires two weeks ago, and she was granted a restraining order on October 18.

The Journal Sentinel described him as black, roughly 6-foot-1 and 270 pounds.

The Associated Press has more:

Agents with the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were assisting the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, according to the Associated Press.

A statement by the White House says the first family is keeping the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers.  President Obama also offered “whatever resources are necessary” by the federal government to help with the investigation.

More has been added to this story and it does seem that it is domestic violence. I guess this could be called “workplace violence”, since it happened in either the victim or aggressor’s workplace, but backwards Obama will probably tag it a terror attack.

The city mayor of Brookfield is anti-gun and pro gun-control. He advocates for the city to ban the concealed carry of guns on Government property or municipal buildings. Why do these events always happen in the most anti gun places, and at supposedly “safer” places?

I say call a spade a spade: The killer looks black. I really wasn’t focused on his skin color; rather, I was trying to figure out why this guy shot up a day spa of all places (unless he was a former employee). I don’t know what his politics were but since he was able to kill 3 people, then it sounds like he was a Republican at one time in his life – otherwise he would have missed them all including himself.

In a situation like this, if a person is black, it’s a description, not a race card. To use the phrase “ethnic” is obscure in today’s American culture. Everyone who lives here in the US has an ethnic ‘look’. Mine are combination of Alba/Erin and Deutsch/ Polska, so what am I now – not a pale light skinned, but ‘ethnic’ non-melanin?

I got asked by a lady at the checkout in Kroger one time if I had Russian ancestory, due to my facial structure. At the time, I hadn’t researched my heritage much and told her I didn’t think so, just Native American. I recently discovered I do indeed have Russian ancestory if you go back far enough, and possibly Russian Jewish. I thought it was interesting that she could see that.

Wonder what I would have done if I was coming back from duck hunting. Article states, “David Gosh told the Journal Sentinel he was returning from duck hunting when he saw a woman run screaming into traffic.” “Shortly thereafter, Gosh said a large black man with a handgun ran out and seemed to be chasing her.” – Wasn’t there so each situation would surely be different. I believe that being at the scene that I just may have had to consider being armed myself. Kooks running with a handgun in my direction just may have forced my hand.

I caught that too. When I am returning from duck hunting I have what I was hunting with. I don’t think he was aware of the 7 shot inside at the time he saw the man chasing a woman. Could be he just waited to see if the handgun was going to be in play before showing his cards. Never want a shooter to know where the other guns are first.

Probably just lost his job, or his girlfriend, or custody of his children. Less likely: an ideological motivation, whether Muslim, or right-wing Christian, or left-wing radical, or racial fanaticism. Still less likely: an unholy cabal seeking to take away our guns, two weeks before a national election.

Colorado and Wisconsin. . . . hmmmmm. Soliciting suggestions as to why just these two states have seen so much of this sort of thing lately. Probably just a coincidence.

Quite often you seem to denigrate believers; seems for no other reason than they aren’t as enlightened as you see yourself to be. If I misread that, I apologize.
With the exception of Islam (my own particular hang-up), there is plenty of room on Earth for religion. They do much good in many areas (again with the exception of Islam – IMHO).
So from one atheist to what I assume is another atheist – STFU! Or at least tone it down. Religious people are not necessary evil. The overwhelming majority are very decent people.

Calls for more ‘gun laws’ is clearly what’s needed here, yes more gun laws will ensure that nobody is ever killed with a firearm again. Here’s a novel idea try executing these nut jobs when they do this **** do it quickly and televise it to get your point across. Thirty years on death row isn’t working and all states should have the death penalty no appeals, get em in the ground quickly.

I remember an article I read back in the early part of the Clinton Admin. Not blaming this on Clinton, just giving a time line. There were roughly 55,000 murders in this nation annually, and actually a large majority of the of the murderers were caught, tried, and sentenced. Many were put on death row. The nation as a whole executed less than a hundred of these murderers annually. The report said that we really didn’t have a death sentence as a deterrent because less than 1% of those sentenced to death were actually executed. The final point of the article said that if only in one year this nation actually executed 5,000 on death row, the nation’s criminal element may very well see this as an actual deterrent.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families. I pray that justice comes soon for them because of this evil that has been done.

SWAMP_JACKASS, Been watching it on the news and expect the Dem-wits to accuse the Tea Party any minute, as has been the usual case since the AZ shooting. We already are pretty well aware that it is usually a nutcase that does this. But, we’ll wait and see the actual results after he is questioned and investigated. But, my bet, he will be some conflicted nut.

I’ll wait for more at 11:00, but with overall crime up 18% under Obama I could assume a lot.

      Hi RJJ,

I’ve been watching it on the news also. CNN has it live from helicopter.

Hi MONK, Same here. Was just flipping through the channels and caught it first on CNN too. Chris Wallace is on Fox right now and I guess they won’t interfere with his program.

The MSM couldn’t claim it was the Tea Party, since the guy was black. Remember, the Tea Party is raaacist. They will claim he was a victim of society.

ANONYMOUS T. IRRELEVANT, Dang if you’re not right again. Sorry, I was using common sense considering that I have seen all races included in various Tea Party gatherings. Guess that I wasn’t being racist enough to please the left.
