Police: 3 Dead in Milwaukee Spa Shooting, Suspect Found Deceased

Police respond to a call of a shooting at the Azana Spa in Brookfield, Wis. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. Multiple people were wounded when someone opened fire at the spa near the Brookfield Square Mall. Deputies were still looking for the gunman. (AP)
A man police suspected of killing three and wounding four by opening fire at a tranquil day spa was found dead Sunday afternoon following a six-hour manhunt that locked down a shopping center, country club and hospital in suburban Milwaukee.
Police told WTMJ-TV the shooting occurred around 11 a.m. at the Azana Spa across the street from the Brookfield Square Mall. Seven people were transported from the scene to area hospitals, four with non-life-threatening injuries.
A bomb squad was on the scene Sunday afternoon dealing with an unknown “device,” slowing the search of the spa considerably. However, police say the suspect was found inside the spa, having perished of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

AP
David Gosh told the Journal Sentinel he was returning from duck hunting when he saw a woman run screaming into traffic this morning.
“She ran right out into the street was was pounding on cars,” Gosh said.
Shortly thereafter, Gosh said a large black man with a handgun ran out and seemed to be chasing her. Police were arriving at that point, he said, and the gunman ran either back into the building or into the woods behind the building.
The suspect has been identified as Radcliffe Haughton:

(Photo: Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Dept. via the Huffington Post)
“He was the shooter,” Gosh told the newspaper. “He was looking for an escape route.”
WTMJ reported the shooting stemmed from a domestic conflict between the gunman and one the spa’s hair stylists. He apparently slashed the woman’s tires two weeks ago, and she was granted a restraining order on October 18.
The Journal Sentinel described him as black, roughly 6-foot-1 and 270 pounds.
The Associated Press has more:
Agents with the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were assisting the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, according to the Associated Press.
A statement by the White House says the first family is keeping the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers. President Obama also offered “whatever resources are necessary” by the federal government to help with the investigation.
The Associated Press contributed to this report. Updates will be added.

Posted on October 21, 2012 at 3:20pmMore has been added to this story and it does seem that it is domestic violence. I guess this could be called “workplace violence”, since it happened in either the victim or aggressor’s workplace, but backwards Obama will probably tag it a terror attack.

Why do these events always happen in the most anti gun places, and at supposedly “safer” places?

Posted on October 21, 2012 at 7:21pmI say call a spade a spade: The killer looks black. I really wasn’t focused on his skin color; rather, I was trying to figure out why this guy shot up a day spa of all places (unless he was a former employee). I don’t know what his politics were but since he was able to kill 3 people, then it sounds like he was a Republican at one time in his life – otherwise he would have missed them all including himself.

Posted on October 21, 2012 at 3:18pmIn a situation like this, if a person is black, it’s a description, not a race card. To use the phrase “ethnic” is obscure in today’s American culture. Everyone who lives here in the US has an ethnic ‘look’. Mine are combination of Alba/Erin and Deutsch/ Polska, so what am I now – not a pale light skinned, but ‘ethnic’ non-melanin?

Article states, “David Gosh told the Journal Sentinel he was returning from duck hunting when he saw a woman run screaming into traffic.” “Shortly thereafter, Gosh said a large black man with a handgun ran out and seemed to be chasing her.” – Wasn’t there so each situation would surely be different. I believe that being at the scene that I just may have had to consider being armed myself. Kooks running with a handgun in my direction just may have forced my hand.

I don’t think he was aware of the 7 shot inside at the time he saw the man chasing a woman. Could be he just waited to see if the handgun was going to be in play before showing his cards. Quite often you seem to denigrate believers; seems for no other reason than they aren’t as enlightened as you see yourself to be. If I misread that, I apologize.
With the exception of Islam (my own particular hang-up), there is plenty of room on Earth for religion. They do much good in many areas (again with the exception of Islam – IMHO).
So from one atheist to what I assume is another atheist – STFU! Or at least tone it down. Religious people are not necessary evil. The overwhelming majority are very decent people.

There were roughly 55,000 murders in this nation annually, and actually a large majority of the of the murderers were caught, tried, and sentenced. Many were put on death row. The nation as a whole executed less than a hundred of these murderers annually. The report said that we really didn’t have a death sentence as a deterrent because less than 1% of those sentenced to death were actually executed. The final point of the article said that if only in one year this nation actually executed 5,000 on death row, the nation’s criminal element may very well see this as an actual deterrent.
