Ever since the exposure of President Obama’s pastor Jeremiah Wright as an anti-American radical back in 2008, the left has gone out of its way to disconnect the president from his former pastor. Obama himself disavowed Wright as the equivalent of a crazy uncle. Super PACs this cycle that wanted to revive the issue of Wright were quietly told to sit down and keep it to themselves because (again) Obama had disavowed it and it was old news.

And now? Obama is asking Wright to turn out the vote for him. Breitbart’s Ben Shapiro reports:

President Obama is getting so desperate about Romney-trending election polls that he is calling on an old, discarded ally to help his get out the vote effort: Rev. Jeremiah Wright. According to former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, “If Obama looks as if he’s going black, he could turn off white people. So he’s largely been lying low on the race issues – visibly pushing for the Latino vote, the gay vote, the women’s vote, but not the black vote. But last weekend, he held a conference call with a collection of black preachers that included his old pastor, Jeremiah Wright. He wanted to talk to them about getting out the vote.”

Wright’s support could make the difference in terms of base turnout for Obama, though given the high rates of black support for the president, this may not make much of a numerical difference. Wright’s base of operations in Chicago also makes him one of the less crucial black pastors in America.

However, the fact that Obama is willing to court support from Wright’s ilk is still telling, even if the President has disavowed his former pastor. Apparently, what political necessity takes away, it eventually gives back.
