Charles Krauthammer Calls the Final Debate: ‘It’s Unequivocal – Romney Won’
During his post-debate analysis on Fox News, syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer argued GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney won Monday night’s final presidential debate unequivocally, saying “Obama went very, very small — shockingly small.”
“I think it’s unequivocal — Romney won,” Krauthammer said. “And he didn’t just win tactically but strategically. Strategically, all he needed to do is basically a draw. He needed to continue the momentum he’s had since the first debate.”
He continued: “Tactically, he simply had to get up there and show that he’s a competent man and somebody you can trust as commander-in-chief, a man who knows every area of the globe and he gave a lot of interesting extra details…which gave the impression that he knows what he’s talking about.
Watch the clip via Fox News here:
But there’s a third level, Krauthammer explained. He said “Romney went large” while “Obama went very, very small — shockingly small.”
He also pointed out that Romney made a “strategic decision” not to aggressively go after the president on Libya and Syria or other areas so Obama couldn’t accuse him of being a “Bush-like war monger.”
“Now, I would have gone after Obama on Libya with a baseball bat, but that’s why Romney has won elections and I have never even contested them,” Krauthammer added.
What Romney did concentrate on is the “big picture,” he explained.
“The high point of that debate for Romney is when he devastatingly leveled the charge of Obama going around the world on an apology tour. Obama’s answer was: ‘ask any reporter and they will tell you it wasn’t so.’ That’s about as weak an answer you can get,” Krauthammer said.
As Obama attacked Romney with petty charges like investing in companies in China, Romney stayed focused on the real issues in the debate, according to Krauthammer. Obama’s attacks were something you would expect in a race for “city council,” he concluded.
“That’s not what you expect from the president.”

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 12:51amRomney accomplished at least three things:
1) Told the American public he was not going to go to war with Iran.
2) Focused the voting decision on economic policy by agreeing with Obama’s foreign policy mostly. He did not say or contrast any foreign policy in a way that would make a head line, and the only contrast he made was economic were Romney is more respected.
3) Showed an in depth understanding of foreign policy.

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 12:55amCheer up Libertarian…how Charles described the debate is exactly the way It struck me…Obama came off as a snarky boor , bereft of real substance and worst of all left bleating the same old tired plaitudes he’s been barking about for the past 2 years. He came off looking very small as Charles rightly surmized. Even a dullard such as myself got that impression just by reading the play by play. Having stomached a number of key video snippets (post debate) only cements that reality further.
Good luck in the coming election and never give up while there is still any chance at all….it only takes one to get the ball rolling….look at Beck for example. I was watching him back when he had his HNN show and now look where he is….One man can inspire many.

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 2:23amIt really doesn’t matter who won this debate.
I have an aunt who believes that anything anyone comes up with against Obama is a lie and comes from racial prejudice. Absolutely illogical, but yet the truth. There are many who voted for Obama last time who will continue to deny they made a mistake.
I firmly believe our only hope of ousting Obama is to convince all our conservative friends to get out and vote. Don’t waste your time on the those who cannot see. I’ve helped my 3 voting age children see the importance of voting for Romney this election and made sure that each of them is registered and I will personally drive them to the polls if needed. This is not a brag, it is merely an example of what must be done.
I will be at the polls for early voting tomorrow. How many of you will be taking someone else to the polls who didn’t vote in the last election? I’ll have 3 new voters at the polls, how about you. Activate your friends now.
It may be your last chance to bring someone into the fold of sanity. In my state, tomorrow is the last day to register, to be able to vote in this election.

Another idiotic comment that Obama always makes is that Romney’s budget figures don’t add up mathematically. Really? This coming from a president who has already added over $5 TRILLION to our deficit and if reelected, his budgets could add another $4 TRILLION in the next four years. Note to progressives: larger numbers are NOT good when we have to borrow from others or print paper money, making it useless. Useless? Now there’s a word you can get your brains around.

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 1:48pm“This coming from a president who has already added over $5 TRILLION to our deficit and if reelected, his budgets could add another $4 TRILLION in the next four years.”
President Obama inherited a 1.4 trillion dollar deficit from Bush. In case you don’t understand that, it means revolving debt every year. That’s almost 4 trillion dollars in 3.5 years. By the way, the last deficit under Obama was about 1.04 trillion, the deficit is going down. Add to that the $700 billion dollars for the bank bailout under Bush. Add to that the Medicare prescription drug coverage costing at least $100 billion dollars a year and auto bailout both under Bush. None of these items were paid for.
What Obama has added to the deficit is addition funding for the US auto industry, extending the Bush tax cuts for 2 years and the $800 billion dollar stimulus. If you say or believe that the Obama stimulus did nothing, then you also believe Obama never had 10% unemployment.
We are not spending, rather we have cut our income (taxes) that pays for things. Now Romney and the republicans want deeper tax cuts and in order to pay for these tax cuts, they want to cut services for those among us that have the least so those that have the most can have even more.

Do you know why government revenue is down champ? There are less tax payers that are paying federal taxes. Less people with adequately paying jobs that qualify for Federal income tax. Obama has increased the number of under-employed that have either completely left the workforce for lack of finding a job, or are taking part time or home jobs for lack of finding adequate employment.
Obama’s last joke of a budget had a proposed increase of $3 trillion in new spending. You’ll recall it was unanimously voted down in the Senate?

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 3:34pmI’ve said this on another board but I think it bears repeating here because it dovetails with Krauthammer’s take as well as many other Blazers’ here….
As a community organizer Obama has studied Saul Alinsky. Alinsky says to use ridicule..we saw Obama utilize this Alinsky principle with lines like “horses and bayonets”.
As a businessman, Romney likely has read Sun Tzu and perhaps even Musashi’s “Five Rings”. Sun Tzu is not just applied to military settings, but also to business ones.
Watching Romney last night I noticed he was applying some of Sun Tzu’s most basic principles. Sun Tzu says to never go looking for a battle if you can avoid it. Only fight where you’re assured of the victory. More precisely Sun Tzu defines “killing ground”. You don’t go to the ground your enemy chooses to fight you on, you fight on yours.
Romney did this to Obama last night. Obama wanted Romney to appear hawkish and a war monger. Romney didn’t go to that ground, instead he attached himself to Obama and remained even-toned and on message. Obama was clearly frustrated hence the “horses and bayonets” ridicule to humiliate Romney.
But Romney only needed two things from last night..to keep his momentum going and to not appear hawkish and pro-war. He won on both while making Obama seem petty and churlish. Romney strategized for a bigger conflict. A war as opposed to just a battle. Obama hurled bombs for merely a debate. Obama still doesn’t know what Romne

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 1:02pmSITDOWNANDSHUTUP, Well I always keep an eye on Real Clear Politics which is a conservative run polling site that publishes all the polls and give averages from all. They have been closer than most in past elections because the averages give a better polling picture. The main polls to watch are the swing states as they will ultimately decide who wins, and remember that there are quite a few Paul supporters in key states. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_electoral_college_map.html
You will notice that Obama still has the upper hand in these states. This election is not decided yet and since we have a Republican candidate where there is not a dimes worth of difference between them on issues, Republicans cannot say that Romney has this race sewn up. This is just what I get from these polls, and with Romney’s poor performance last night, I believe he is not going to defeat Obama. You guys can think he won, but they were basically the same. You guys need to stop listening to Fox and start researching everywhere. You cannot discount liberal sites, liberal news or you are not getting the whole picture across the nation. Everyone does not think like you guys, and you should not think so. Gary Johnson’s polling has been rising, and that can be credited to Paul supporters as they are starting to coalesce around him. You guys still think he will only get 1%, but from what I am seeing, it could possibly be as high as 15%

The union reps call me on the phone to tell what to vote for, and my answer is “okay, no problem, thank you for the call.” Why? Posted on October 23, 2012 at 12:05amObama just rambled on and on when Romney slammed him on many points, which left Romney’s points out there for everyone to dwell on and have sink in. Obama got a couple of punches in, but Romney stayed presidential, and even said, “When I’m President”, and landed many punches, including the Putin comment and the apology tour. Obama could not come back with anything of substance. He just babbled on about nothing and made little sense.
I’m afraid that Romney’s calmness and demeanor will win out over O’s condescending ‘boat’ comments any time. Romney did have to debate slightly with B.S. (Bob Schieffer) but not nearly as bad as C.C. last time they got together, and Romney handled himself quite well with both of them.
It also looked like Obama kept looking to B.S. for ‘a little help’ when ever Romney was slamming him. Those looks didn’t make him look good at all. It was almost like O was trying to signal B.S. to change the subject or something.
I did wish that Romney would have litigated the Benghazi thing, but I’m not sure it was that necessary, considering all the other points that we learned tonight that put O in the hole.
I have to confess that I am siding with K-hammer on this one even though I don’t like K that much.

Mitt is very organized and solid. He actually knows how to look at the Big Picture and has sound judgement on how he would implement it.
Obama can talk, and talk, and talk . . .He never shuts up. He makes a lot of noice; he can never put action to his words. Lies, without hesitation . . . you wouldn’t want to be married to him or be his business partner.

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 2:24amAn article published a few days ago asked some very interesting questions; “How did Obama know the moderator had that transcript, and when did he know it? What was the purpose behind knowing that Crowley had the transcript? What else did Obama know, and was there collusion?” Also points out; “Crowley stated on CNN that she collected questions from the audience on Monday and was reviewing them. The debate was Tuesday. Audience member, Kerry Ladka, prefaced his Libya question by saying, “yesterday we were sitting around talking about Libya.” If Crowley already had the audience questions assembled the day before, how could Ladka have been writing one after she received them? When Crowley was introducing Ladka, she announced “we are changing topics to a question from Kerry Ladka.” Shockingly, Obama walked over to the crowd and without any prompts from the audience, looked directly at Ladka and said “Hi, Kerry”. On tape, it’s obvious Obama realized no one told him where Kerry was sitting, then awkwardly pretended to look for Ladka and asked for his name (which he had just mentioned).”
Was Obama given debate information beforehand?

So Obama got all the help he could get from the moderator and who knows what else. Still he couldn’t slam dunk it. At best he broke even. That being said, no one was swayed by Obama or Romney. Posted on October 22, 2012 at 11:52pmMr. K nailed it! Also…what I continually find disconcerting–is Obama’s propensity to mislead and outright lie. It’s pathological–shockingly so. Amazingly–for the first time EVER that I can recall–Obama talked about the importance of human rights for women and ‘minorities’ (read: religious minorities) in Egypt. Wow! I never knew he cared! Considering Christians are being CRUCIFIED, yes, literally, right now in Egypt–and women there–over 90% of which CURRENTLY suffer genital mutilation–not to mention the human trafficking–forced marriages of very young girls, etc…the evils against women in Egypt ALREADY abound–and the muslim brotherhood would only seek to INCREASE the horrors against women through Sharia law…and NOW Obama cares?? JUST NOW??? IN THIS DEBATE??? He FAILED to lead as Egypt fell to pieces…and now we have the muslim brotherhood in there–who are not only adamantely AGAINST our ally Israel, but they are ANTI-human rights for women, religious minorities, as well as gays, etc…

LOL@Failure to understand how all Politicians exploit semantics to change all past statements to meet their current needs. Example:
Barrack Obama did not say “Sorry”, he did however imply that the US has been imperialistic, abusive, and that his administration would work to change that.
Same thing, different wording. Few words out, so he can deny he ever said “sorry”.
Same tactic he pulled regarding the assassination. He did not label it a terrorist attack, he made a large all inclusive closing statement regarding terrorist attacks will not be ignored and anyone who kills Americans will be tracked down and brought to justice. it took Obama 14 days to actually label the assassination a planned terrorist attack. Of course, when called on it, he let it be known he had used the word terrorist attack in his first statement, and he had, but not in the context he tried to indicate it was in.
Biggest laugh is when politicians remember meeting someone and discussing something of importance. “I met someone somewhere who agrees with my point of view and provides a form of evidence in their mere mention to strengthen my case”
BLAH.
Romney played this debate dangerously. Hes placed too much confidence in the Average voter to fact check independently from what the Media spoon feeds them. Obama came across as being in charge, and the only way Romney can redeem this one is if the press who normally support Obama actually provide real fact check resul

Posted on October 22, 2012 at 11:41pmAgreed, although the MSM is wonking it hard for Obama. Mitt clearly articulated that he understands the difference between a strategic threat and a symbolic action. Killing OBL does not do away with Al Qaeda. Leaving Afghanistan does not eliminate the threat. Also clearly understands that strong economy is necessary for strong foreign policy and influence. Obama seemed petulant, and once again failed to articulate any reason why we should expect the next four years to be anything different than the last. The nail was the Romney charge – nowhere in the world is our influence any better than it was four years ago. Also frightening Orwellian overtones – I’ve always been a friend of Israel. I’ve never apologized for the United States. Right, and we’ve always been at war with Oceania. Double plus good. It was like that old joke – who are ya gonna believe, me or your lyin’ eyes and ears?

you again must have been watching a debate differently to what I saw.
Romney’s standing on foreign policy:
For the most part, I would have likely taken the same action as Obama, Id just not have waited 3 years for campaign season to do it. You have however undermined our standing in the international community, and made us look weak in the eyes of rogue states like Libya. You also have done nothing to build ties with Israel, our strongest ally in the Middle East. In fact, you outright hung them out to dry, and haven’t even visited Israel once since being in office.
Obama standing on foreign Policy:
While campaigning, its nice to see that Romney finally agrees with my decisions, now that im taking action to win some swing votes. As for Israel, before I was president, when I was campaigning the first time round, when I needed to appear to be religious, I visited Israel once for a photo op. I also may have visited the holocaust museum and saw a blown up house or two. That makes me a true champion and ally of Israel. So much so that I need not visit the country ever again, or entertain its leadership when he comes to visit. Oh, and because I want an easier time while handling the Muslim middle east issues, Ill even state im putting distance between the US and Israel….Oh wait, elections are coming up, time to put some sanctions in place against Libya and pretend to be Christian again.
Paraphrased, of course.
In conclusion, I favor Romney for

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 2:36pmFrom President George Washington to all Obama/Romney supporters!!
17 All obstructions to the execution of the Laws, all combinations and associations, under whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control, counteract, or awe the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities, are destructive of this fundamental principle, and of fatal tendency. They serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community; and, according to the alternate triumphs of different parties, to make the public administration the mirror of the ill-concerted and incongruous projects of faction, rather than the organ of consistent and wholesome plans digested by common counsels, and modified by mutual interests.
18 However combinations or associations of the above description may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people, and to usurp for themselves the reins of government; destroying afterwards the very engines, which have lifted them to unjust dominion.

Posted on October 23, 2012 at 2:40pm22 The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty.
23 Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind, (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight,) the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.
24 It serves always to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration. It agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.

But, if I may even flatter myself, that they may be productive of some partial benefit, some occasional good; that they may now and then recur to moderate the fury of party spirit, to warn against the mischiefs of foreign intrigue, to guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism; this hope will be a full recompense for the solicitude for your welfare, by which they have been dictated.

That’s called cognitive dissonance by the way. Mental gymnastics aimed at validating your beliefs. Liberals have been treating conservatives like garbage for decades. You control pop culture and many would argue the mainstream media. The likes of Limbaugh and Beck would not be nearly as prevalent as they are were it not for said disenfranchisement. We sought out alternative media where we weren’t being vilified and were we thought we could actually get a fair shake. If you think Beck is a monster, it is a monster you guys created. Ill take it a step further. Phlosophtically liberals support large meddling government and redistribution of wealth. Conservatives just want to be left alone. Self reliance and small government. We figure if you lefties want to donate all your money to charity, knock yourselves out. However your philosophy is to be generous with our money, often spending it in ways we definitely do not agree with. Do you, or Obama, think that we, conservatives, are just going to forget the record filibusters used against Bush? Are we supposed to forget the last decade of Matthews and the rest of the liberal media calling us stupid or evil, or both? Why would we agree to any bipartisanship?
I for one won’t forget how I, and my beliefs, have been portrayed by Matthews and his ilk, and liberals in Congress and I won’t let my senators and representatives forget either. Though, for the record, I predict an Romney victory and more of the same gridlock and demonization (both literal and figurative) of conservatives and our philosophies.
Your selective memory is astounding.
