‘Horses and Bayonets’: Obama Mocks Romney on Military Budget Cuts With Condescending Tone

While Monday night’s presidential debate was largely uneventful, there were still some noteworthy moments. Among them was when the president took a condescending tone and mocked Mitt Romney for critiquing Obama on military cuts.

According to Obama, Romney just doesn’t understand that America has advanced so far technologically that we now have less “horses and bayonets” just like we have less Navy ships, too.

“We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them,” Obama said smugly. “We have these ships that go under water — nuclear submarines.”

Additionally, the audience broke the rules mentioned by moderator Bob Schieffer at the beginning of the night: members laughed when Obama took a jab at Romney’s comment that important information can be found on the candidate’s website.

“We visited the website quite a bit, and it still doesn’t work,” Obama said.

It really doesn’t matter who won this debate.

I have an aunt who believes that anything anyone comes up with against Obama is a lie and comes from racial prejudice. Absolutely illogical, but yet the truth. There are many who voted for Obama last time who will continue to deny they made a mistake. We have to cancel-out such people’s votes.

I firmly believe our only hope of ousting Obama is to convince all our conservative friends to get out and vote. Don’t waste your time on the those who cannot see. I’ve helped my 3 voting age children see the importance of voting for Romney this election and made sure that each of them is registered and I will personally drive them to the polls if needed. This is not a brag, it is merely an example of what must be done.

I will be at the polls for early voting tomorrow. How many of you will be taking someone else to the polls who didn’t vote in the last election? I’ll have 3 new voters at the polls, how about you. Activate your friends now.

It may be your last chance to bring someone into the fold of sanity. In my state, tomorrow is the last day to register, to be able to vote in this election.

When debate rules are broken, why is it ALWAYS liberal Democrats breaking those rules?

I guess if you think being snarky and petulant are qualities you like in a president, Obama is your man. It’s been stated time and time again that bayonets are standard equipment for our military in 2012, but what’s even worse in Obama’s childish answer was his statement about aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. I’m pretty sure these ships have been around a little longer than the last four years. In fact, they’ve been around for decades now and no other president has felt the need to reduce the Navy as drastically as Obama. Have any nuclear subs or aircraft carriers been built in the last four years? It wasn’t Romney’s opinion that the Navy should have over 300 ships, it was the advice of the military experts in the Navy, who I think know a lot more about the needs of the Navy than Obama knows. And do the progressives know how many jobs will be lost just in the state of Virginia with these drastic cuts to not only the Navy but the military in general? Obama just lost the state of Virginia, thank you very much!

I love to see the progressives shoot themselves in the foot. They do it so well, and on a regular basis.

Obama should have attended someplace like say West Point in order to grasp the idea of why you don’t put all you eggs in one basket. The services may be highly efficient but what happens when they are overwhelmed and there is no backup or reserve. Obama is a disaster waiting to happen.

So Barry’s on-the-job training taught him we have aircraft carriers and technological advances with regard to the military? Too bad he doesn’t know what a corpsman is, or how many American states he’s supposed to protect. However, he sure knows how to deploy drones and elite squadrons of men and then take full credit for the kill. Yeah, he’s a real supporter of the military with denial of benefits to our uniformed men and women are at an all time high. Honestly, who would want this *asterd leading them in a physical or even strategic battle? No one would want this guy in their foxhole. His own wife doesn’t even think honoring our flag is necessary.

      @soy
Your president Obama has had a clear purpose to dismantle our military forces:
On 2009 the so called commander in chief stopped funding for the F-22 Raptor. A bipartisan group of congressmen sent him a letter no to do it, and I quote:
The F-22 Raptor is the nation’s most capable fighter and the world’s only operational fifth-generation fighter aircraft in full-rate production…The F-22 is a model production line and, since full-rate production began, the unit flyaway cost has decreased 35 percent”.
      But still he did it.
Now his administration is about to halt production of the only American made tank (M1 Abrams) in Ohio.
Our arm forces might be the strongest (still), but your president is doing whatever it takes to undermine it.
Not to mention the hundreds of billions of dollars his administration is planning to cut from the Defense Dept. budget.

We are using fewer bayonets than before because we no longer have the 2 major war doctrine in place. This means fewer of everything.

In these times we better prepare for a 2 front war. There is one brewing in the ME and Russia is once again testing us. Technology has shortened the ramp up phase of war fighting. We don’t have the time to build the infrastructure to wage war. I doubt we could carry off on major amphibious landing due to the lack of military and naval equipment.

So very true. These debates have been like watching a student argue his views against the professor. Romney answers each question, as though having to inform and educate his opponent who is 14 yrs younger. The student (Obama) smirks, raises his tone of voice, mocks, just like anyone who has not become of age (an adult) does. Truly it is fascinating to see an adult and child defend and debate views.

Yes very good WHACKO/HORSEDANCER/ad nauseum….Obama also said “Corpseman Rashard” didnt’ he.
He also said he’d create a “civilian security force” at home, outside the military didn’t he?
It’s even funnier when one remembers that Obama’s wife is active with “Americorps” and he should know how the word is spelled and pronounced having seen and heard it so many times. Pesky little teleprompters should be written phonetically for little Barry shouldn’t they?
But let’s not stand on semantics right?
So how about we stand on Obama’s exploitation of our fallen for some cheap political points instead? Like going against the families’ wishes and allowing himself to be photographed saluting our honored fallen returning to Dover..and then making that photo the “photo of the day” on the white house website.
Oh but it gets better little fella..Obama mentioned his trip to Israel last night as candidate Obama yes? On that same sojourn he went to Germany and gave his “I’m a world citizen” speech to a German crowd. Fine you say?
Yes but when he was given the chance to visit our wounded at Landstuhl he chose to work out at his hotel room instead because they didn’t allow his photographers to accompany him there. Landstuhl has it’s own photographers standing by..but that’s not good enough for Barry apparently and one more example of Barry using our troops for political appearances.

MERCENARY….The Chinese are a lot smarter than Obama. That’s why they’ve been commissioning all those new warships recently. They understand what a robust navy means. Romney understands it also. Obama doesn’t seem to though.

You’re a fighting man…you’ve likely read Sun Tzu and Mushashi’s Five Rings yes?

As a business man…Romney has likely read them also. These aren’t just philosophies for fighting wars and battles. These are principles for success in business as well.

I watched Romney last night and noticed he was applying some of Sun Tzu’s most basic principles. Sun Tzu says to never go looking for a battle if you can avoid it. Only fight where you’re assured of the victory. More precisely Sun Tzu defines “killing ground”. You don’t go on the ground your enemy chooses to fight you on, you avoid it. Romney did this to Obama last night. Obama wanted Romney to appear hawkish and a war monger. Romney didn’t go to that ground, instead he attached himself to Obama and remained even-toned and on message. Obama was clearly frustrated hence the “horses and bayonets” provocation.
Romney only needed two things from last night..to keep his momentum rising and to not appear hawkish and pro-war. He won on both while making Obama seem petty and churlish. Romney is the even hand we need in the white house. He impressed the hell out of me last night.

My oldest son is USAF active duty. He says they ride around in refurbished B-52′s constantly having to fix them because they keep requesting new planes but the contracts keep getting canceled. So they keep flying in planes that were manufactured before their parents were even born. Obama’s claim that the armed forces are not asking for more spending is not necessarily true. They aren’t asking for more spending, but they are asking for the equipment necessary to do the job they are being asked to do.

      CatB,

Here is something he also told me last night (via phone). A fellow Airman was trying to register to vote as a New Mexico resident, which he legally is. He was given a form to send in, and on it, it asked party affiliation he filled in Republican. When his card came back it was full of errors, so he was told to resubmit the form. Again, errors. He resubmitted the form for a third time. You guessed it errors again. Getting a bit suspicious at this point, he filled out the form for the fourth time and this time put down “Democrat”. Will wonders never cease. The card came back correctly.

No one will look into this I am sure, but how many registered Armed Forces Republicans put that card right into their wallet and never looked at it, only to be told on election night at the polls that it is an invalid card?

I know you are right on AX, My son is lifer in Air Force and cannot get parts to fix the fighters. Obummer still wants pilots flying in worn out F-15′s and 16′s that may fall apart at the end of the runway, but is willing to send MOOOOOCH and girls on vacation after vacation that cost more than people in the military make in 15 years.

Romney is our HOPE AND CHANGE for the future, Obama is the HYPE AND BLAME person for the future

Cat was the snark subtle or obvious, I skipped this debate because I can no longer stand the sound or sight of Obama. It’ll be interesting to parse the spin of the MSM over the next few days. I wonder how many will begin to abandon the crippled Commicrats ? My guess is that not one notable talking head will do so.

I would say that just like Hillary reminded men of that nasty x-wife/girlfriend who screeched like nails on a chalkboard, Obama reminded woman of that condecending x-husband/boyfriend who would rudely interrupt, was in the conversation only to proove his own ego was justified, and always had to have the last word.

Romney may know how to run a business, but he knows little about economics… Just like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates know little about economics. Romney proves this with his ridiculous views on trade with China, and his severely redistributionist policies.

Why America provides military protection for many Countries that can afford to pay, but we never charge a dime is insane. Instead we allow the Middle East sell us oil for $90-100 a barrel. Why is Japan, South Korea, Tiwian, and many other nations allowed to receive protection for free while we go bankrupt.
These countries should be paying 100′s of billions a year for our protection.

Sounds reasonable to me to have them pay for protection but a better plan would be for the US to exploit all our natural resources. We have 1.5 trillion barrels of shale oil, more than any other country and more coal and NG than any other country. We put all that on the world market and the price will fall,we kill all green energy BS programs and use what we have and we’ll be fine for many many years.

      Agreed
I could never figure out why when Iraq was asking for help we were expending billions when they had all that oil. I’m not saying we should have taken it over, but we should not have been expending our resources. That goes for other countries as well.
As far as green energy I believe it’s a good idea, but not the way it’s being done. If it was truly worth while some one in this country would be doing it on their own. We don’t need the government picking winners and losers, they are losers at it. (Americans hate slush funds)
