Mother Charged With Assault After Boarding School Bus & Allegedly Slapping Daughter’s 9-Year-Old Bully

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (TheBlaze/AP) — A New Jersey woman who says her 9-year-old daughter was bullied took matters into her own hands and confronted one of the students she says harassed the girl. Now, the mother is facing assault charges, even though she denied touching or hitting anyone.

The situation apparently commenced when Rebecca Sardoni and her mother boarded a school bus Friday morning bound for East Dover Elementary School, looking for a boy they claimed had been bullying her daughter on the bus.

From that point, there are conflicting versions of what happened next.

Several students on the bus said Rebecca Sardoni then cursed at the boy and slapped him and a boy seated next to him while her mother yelled at the two boys, Toms River Police Chief Michael G. Mastronardy told The Asbury Park Press.

Rebecca Sardoni, 28, of Toms River, and her mother, 51-year-old Stephanie Sardoni, of Beachwood, were arrested Friday and released on summonses. Rebecca Sardoni is charged with simple assault, criminal trespass and making terroristic threats. Stephanie Sardoni is charged with criminal trespass.

Rebecca Sardoni told The Associated Press on Sunday that she regretted boarding the bus, but she denied touching or hitting anyone.

“I was upset. I wasn’t crazy woman upset,” she said. “I don’t put my hands on my own kids. I would have never put my hands on anyone’s kid.”

Sardoni said her daughter is upset and nervous about going to school Monday. She said she’s considering sending her daughter to a new school but knows for sure that the girl won’t be taking the bus anymore.

“It’s crazy that this got blown into me doing something wrong — me and my family — when this is my daughter that is the victim,” Sardoni told the AP.

Sardoni said she took matters into her own hands after school officials ignored complaints that her daughter, who is also in fourth-grade, had been verbally and physically bullied by four students. She said her mother merely stood at the front of the bus with the driver.

School officials couldn’t be reached Sunday by the AP.

The boys were treated by nurses from Toms River Regional Schools for cuts to their mouths. One of the boys was taken by his parents to a local hospital for treatment of a neck injury, Mastronardy said.

The stepfather of one of the boys — who have not been named because of their ages — told the newspaper his stepson had a cut on his lip after Rebecca Sardoni slammed his head against the bus window.

What is wrong with the bus driver. I was bullied in elementary school for 2 days. The bus driver made them stop. Bless his heart. He didn’t hit them, threaten them, etc. He made them apologize. Imagine that! They never did it again.

The parents of those boys should be ashamed that 4 of them were ganging up on one girl! I would not have taken them to the doctor’s for “cuts on the side of their mouths”. This only shows them for the wusses that they are. I would have told them off for ganging up on the girl. Where is the common sense? I got taken to the principal’s office for beating up 2 brothers that used to tease me and threw my new white hat into the mud. My father could never get over how a the boys’ father could stoop so low as to let the principal know that his two sons got beat up by a girl and had been ungentlemanly bullying a girl. He thought that this was a great shame and I think that it is a great shame that the girl’s mother had to resort to getting on the bus to defend her daughter whether she slapped them or not. That is what is wrong with this country. People cannot recognize who is the bully and who is the victim. The girl was the victim and the boys were the bullies and the school and the boys’ parents were the enablers. Four boys picking on one girl rushed to the doctors by their mommies and daddies from a frustrated mother’s slap. Oh my goodness, whiplash! No wonder they are such a bunch of wusses.

Im putting my child in Jujitsu this spring. By the time she is in High School she will be a black belt. I triple dog dare a bully to mess with her then. I was bullied in school and used the ‘ignore them and they will get bored and leave you alone’ tactic. It didn’t work. That was 22 years ago and the kids are worse nowadays.

Why is Johnny-come-lately arresting Rebecca? They should be praising her!

Now, on the other hand, if her 9-year old daughter is as beautiful as her mother, maybe I can appreciate the boys attention to daughter? It is kinda sly how the male will do things to draw the female attention. grin, and grin.

Great analysis. So your solution for addressing “bullying”, or perhaps the girl was just being teased a bit, is to have the adult slap, hit, push, etc. two 9 year old boys. How can the issue of her striking the boys be alleged if they were treated for cuts. Deal with the facts folks and don’t project your ideology through an interpretation of the facts or situation. Stop being Belief Entitled…. meaning what you believe means very little if it is not based on fact, scientific findings and rational analysis.

Bear in mind that there is one bus driver and 70 kids. If he/she didin’t see it, the school won’t care. The bus driver most likely reported the bulling to the school. If that bus driver then reported to the police, they would be fired because there was no investigation. Plus it doesn’t help that bullying is not against the law per say.

The girl’s mother compained to the school and she was ignored.
Meaning that the school ignored the bullying along with the safety of the girl.
    So
now the school can just ignore the fact that the girl’s parent had to take the matter into her own hands.

Hopefully the little Future Prisoners-of-America learned a good lesson from this experience.

When seconds count the authorities are only minutes away. The government will not, can not, and doesn`t want to protect you. It is up to you. Better to be judged in court than to have the crap beat out of you by a bully.

send your children to school with teacher and student animals and this is what you get. So many mentally ill people have children and what do you think their children are like. We need the Marines patrolling the halls at most ghetto schools. The sane know and are outnumbered.

First, she’s a north Jersey moron. None of us know what she did or didn’t do on the bus. Second, the parent’s of the boys are north Jersey morons. “Simple Assault” does not usually result in “neck injuries” requiring a hospital visit – that is pure, unadulterated lawsuit fodder.

With that said, you can tell what kind of insane moron she is because she got on the bus and confronted children. What a real mother does is visit the household and have a nice, reasonable talk with the children’s mother/guardian, whichever one is the weaker. Nice and quiet. No screaming, nothing to rouse the neighbors or the husband/boyfriend who sleeps over/step-father. Just a nice, gentle informative talk about consequences.

I resent that racial slur about being a “North Jersey Moron”.
If there were more parents like Stephanie, these kids wouldn’t be in a messed up,
drugged up world like they are now.
Can you just see what would have happened if this scenerio happened in LosAngeles
      or Detroit ?
Instead of being bullied, the child would have been shot…..is this what you want ?

Exactly, Public schools are no place for learning they are places where children are now taught what to think and not how to think for themselves. It a primes example of why the U.S. is falling behind on innovation. government schools are design to create government tools. My kids will only see inside of one during our local spelling bees and the occational dance.

This crap happens, and I don’t blame that parent one bit. I know for a fact that schools sweep bullying under the rug. They don’t want problems to be associated with their school.

This happened to my grand-daughter when she was a senior in HS. A problem was brought (by my grand-daughter) to the attention of the V-Prin of the wing in which she had most of her classes after the start of the 2010-11 school year. The VP kept the problem to himself, telling my grand-daughter to “buck up”. Thats a quote! Can you believe it?
Things got ugly in May of 2011. My grand-daughter ended up finishing her Senior-year with a tutor to avoid the harrasment . She did not attend her graduation or prom for the same reason. The Perp was an ex-”boyfriend” who had hit her on her legs. Though he was suspended, along with two others, they were re-instated due to him being class president and a campaign where t-shirts were plastered all over the school by his agitator-friends. He has since been kicked out of WVU.
My GD was a top 10% student, so don’t even think she was a loser. When I went to the school with her mom and her boyfriend’s dad to talk to the head administrator, he absolutely knew nothing about the situation.
What’s aggravating to me is that people wrote the local paper to take sides with the ex-boyfriend without knowing any of the details. One even wrote “Though I do not know the students involved or any of the details, I think the punishment is too harsh.” can you beli

What stinks is these kids will be coddled now in order to avoid a civil suit, which will only serve to condone the initial poor behavior.

I could go so far as supporting a mother who slapped a bully to protect her child. Causing injury to a 9 year-old is out of line.
