Rudy Giuliani Tangles With CNN Anchor on Libya: ‘We’re Going to Blame This on Bush, Too?’

CNN host Soledad O’Brien often clashes with her Republican guests– most recently Romney surrogate John Sununu, who once told her to put an Obama bumper sticker on her forehead. While the exchanges are typically lively and entertaining, O’Brien and her guest usually both keep their composure, even while engaging in a verbal sparring match.

On Monday, however, with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, O’Brien appeared genuinely irritated.

After O’Brien played a clip of former Bush adviser Matthew Dowd saying it’s possible that preliminary intelligence on the attack in Benghazi was faulty, like with weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, Giuliani appeared unimpressed.

“We’re going to blame this on Bush, too?” he remarked.

O’Brien responded with visible exasperation:

“You’ve got to stop putting words in my mouth, sir. Seriously, hang on– let me finish. Because every time I ask you a question — and let me finish my point — every time I ask you a question, you like to push back as if somehow the question that’s being posed to you is unfair. It’s not. I’m a journalist, you said some things. I’m trying to get accurate responses from you. You are welcome to answer. Go ahead.”

Giuliani moderated his tone at that point, responding calmly and directly, perhaps to avoid further escalation:

“OK, here’s the answer. It sounds to me like we’re trying to blame Benghazi on Bush. It’s absurd to blame Benghazi on Bush. All [President Obama] has to do is answer a simple question: Did he know about the consulate attacks that took place before September 11, 2012? There were two of them, one of which blew a hole in the embassy wall. Also, did he know the British consulate, which was basically next door, that they moved out because of the tremendous amount of risk to that consulate?

O’Brien responded that the point of Dowd’s remarks was that it can take years to get to the bottom of a crisis in the Middle East, whether it’s in Iraq or Libya. However, the Republican issue is not necessarily that the president didn’t have all the facts (though officials have confirmed that the White House knew what happened within 24 hours of the attack), but that the administration wove a fictional story about a YouTube video prompting deadly, spontaneous protests.

  Its’ funny…little Soledad asks Guilliani to answer the question without being contentious, he begins to answer it after her outburst, he outlines the attacks since April this year on the embassy. The fact that the British embassy left the area because it was too dangerous, asks if Obama knew these things in respect to what happened on Sept 11 this year..and she races to cut him off citing some garbage about WMD’s. She’s impossible to take seriously.

  Soledad, I think the hospital made a mistake when they put down your name. It should be Sosobad. Since you didn’t graduate from the official journalism school of the media elite, Columbia, you really aren’t entitled to call yourself a journalist, however, I do suspect that you qualify as a journolist.

  There is no fog of war here, we had a drone flying over the US compound taking pictures in real time. We knew exactly what was happening because we watched it happen. The only fog here is Candy Crowley, O’brien and other media people who are overt supporters of Obama and are determined to distort the truth. How did President Obama know that Candy Crowley had a copy of his Rose Garden speech and more importantly how did Candy Crowley know that Candy Crowley would misinterpret his remarks and give the president credit for saying something he didn’t say. That exchange during the 2nd debate was no more a spontaneous event than the attack on our US Ambassador was. Both of these events were preplanned and premeditated. Crowley should be fired.

Every commentary discussion the last several weeks has been like this…..(that I have watched)…..The subject is mentioned…..the kool-aid drinkers of the prog.left have their say…then each time the conservative one starts commenting…,the other one starts their”over-talk” to interfer with the conversation !!! The best example of this is the v.pres.debate biden/ryan!!! The progressives like to “Dish it out” …. But ….they can not take it when the tables are turned !!! Why are they “Defending” the return to a time of the “Dark Ages” Like the mid-east is showing all of us at this time ??????   What nerve does Giuliani have to say anything critical. Who was on watch when the worst terrorist attack on our soil occurred? Matthew Dowd is a lifelong republican, worked for the Bush administration, why would he be giving cover to Obama?   Little Soledad in particular has been trying very hard to shift attention and blame from the empty chair for the debacle in Benghazi. She claims to be a journalist yet won’t ask the most obvious questions…both in April and June of this year the embassy was attacked, yet security was drawn down there..why?
  The State Department and the administration immediately began blaming an obscure and poorly crafted anti-Mohammed video for the attack on the embassy in Benghazi…they were both clear and repetetive about it..to the point of being emphatic about it. They did not stay silent until the evidence was presented…they immediately blamed the video. Why?
  Instead the empty headed Soledad keeps trying to shift blame or distract for the empty chair. Why?

Where are the questions about the video to Democrats? Her bias is shameful. If she’s going to give an opinion, that’s her right, but to claim that she’s a journalist? Please!
If that’s the case, so are Rush Limbaugh & Sean Hannity. THey tell you they are giving you their opinion, you have no doubt where they’re coming from and that they have an agenda, a conservative agenda. That’s why they are so POPULAR!
