Despite their team’s stellar playing record, a group of Louisiana State University football fans is less-than-enthusiastic after the public college altered a photo to digitally-erase crosses that were painted on their chests. The Photoshopped image came to the fans’ attention after the university sent out an e-mail about the Tigers’ recent win on October 13. In the picture, the religious symbol was noticeably scrubbed off of the Christians’ bodies.
The men depicted in the image call themselves “The Painted Posse,” a group of believers who are also avid fans. They are known, as CampusReform.org notes, for painting their bodies with LSU colors and crosses and attending every home game. When they saw the photo, devoid of the crosses, they were stunned.

“I was a bit surprised, because our pictures get used so frequently, and the cross had never been edited before,” Cameron Cooke, a member of the group, said in an interview with CampusReform.org. “The cross painting is important to me because it represents who I am as a Christ follower and it reminds me who I need to act like in Death Valley.”
The school wasted no time in admitting that the crosses were purposefully removed and that the action was taken in an effort to avoid offending non-Christians. Vice chancellor for communications, Herb Vincent, said that the school did not want to be seen as endorsing a specific faith tradition.
“LSU Athletics attempts not to imply any particular religious or political message in any of its correspondence with fans,” Vincent responded. “Thus the crosses were edited out of the photos.”

In the future, he claims the college will avoid using similar pictures to avoid controversy — but he inevitably defended LSU’s decision.
“Only one of the students, who didn’t appreciate it, actually contacted us about it. So next time, we’ll just choose a different photo,” he said.
FOX News notes that the Posse formed in 2003 and that the group has become very popular at LSU games, even making their way into national television broadcasts, ESPN and Sports Illustrated. While the group was surprised by the school’s cross removal, its members claim that they aren’t angry with LSU and that they don’t want to cause the university any harm.
“We’re going to be there game in, game out,” said Joel D’Aubin, another member of the Posse. “We love Christ; we love LSU. No, we don’t want anything.”

Oct. 22, 2012 at 2:18pmRegardless of the religious argument, aren’t they changing the story. Isn’t journalism supposed to tell the actual story of what happened at the event they are covering. The actual story is their is a group of Christian fans cheering. The edited story is there is a group of fans cheering. I am a Christian, my husband is an agnostic. He would be far more offended by a “journalist” doctoring a photo than a cross painted on someone’s chest. What is going on here?

Oct. 22, 2012 at 3:45pmThe picture is an advertisement, not a piece of journalism. BIG difference. Do you also get upset when celebrities are airbrushed on magazines? Same thing. I bet Glenn Beck is touched up in every single promotional photo on this site. Seems like the school just didn’t want any religious undertones in their advertisements. What’s wrong with that? Doesn’t sound like they did to support the devil, seem like they did it simply to stay religiously neutral.

Oct. 22, 2012 at 7:30pmIt is quite easy to see how many of us feel we are closer to the end than most would agree. We know that as the end draws near Christians will be persecuted as they were in the early years of the Church. Even as Pagans in Rome offered us up as sacrifices to their gods in the Coliseum, so will the Pagans and Atheists of the too near future.
One thing is for certain, end the end it will be the Christians who will defend the world from Satan and his many followers, who have sold their soul for the lies and promises of pure evil.

Oct. 22, 2012 at 1:30pmSo in campus brochures, yearbooks, etc., are they going to airbrush the head scarves from the muslim students if I say that offends me? Of course not. Only Christians face this intolerance. It is not just liberalism run amok, it is an attack on the religion, an attempt to marginalize. Notice what they say they will do next time? Simply not use pictures of the guys with crosses on their chests. So all signs of Christianity are verbotin, while other religious will and must be tolerated to celebrate diversity. Christians need not apply!

Oct. 22, 2012 at 1:33pmLikewise, too bad it’s not really about offending people (their hypocrisy in selective intolerance of Christians only proves that). That’s not why they really took it out. They’re attacking the largest religion in the country because these liberal sleezoids hate God and religion and religious people. So they attack the biggest one. In Germany the Jews bore the brunt of the attacks because they were the most visible, stand-out group of religious people in a materialistic Germany of the 1930s. Anti-God forces are always around, waxing and waning in power, and right now they have some power.

Oct. 22, 2012 at 12:50pmPeople this day are under a delusion. It speaks to the heart of man being evil and inevitably to Biblical prophecy coming to fruition.
I have said many often this is the time to study and learn, folks don’t understand that playing around the edges will not end up the way you may hope. Once you have heard the truth about Jesus, you have a choice to believe or not. You might say Ill live my life in the fast lane and IF you Christians disappear one day as you say, then I will listen and choose Christ.
Listen closely,
2 Thess 2:9-12 says, The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
Once you know the truth and decide against it thinking Jesus is fire insurance when you really SEE the prophecy being fulfilled, you won’t be able to accept Him if you beg to. Think hard and understand God knows you heart. Now this Delusion spoke of here in 2 Thessalonians I do not believe is in effect now, but I think we may be seeing a taste of it.

Oct. 22, 2012 at 9:32pmThe only way that I know that one can actively condemn oneself is if they don’t recognize (or they deny) the sinful state of their soul, ask for forgiveness and then accept Jesus’ mercy. That is part of having the responsibility of freewill. Jesus can not force His Mercy on anyone unwilling to accept it. But we can not look at another and say definitively that they are condemned by their action(s). Until the last breath forgiveness can and will be granted and received, even for the darkest of souls. As far as I understand the what the unforgivable sin is, is to say that the voice of the Holy Spirit (i.e. messages to a Prophet) is evil.
