Despite Family’s Conservative Leanings, Wal-Mart Heir Pumps $300K Into Liberal Super PAC

Samuel Rawlings Walton, grandson of Wal-Mart’s notoriously conservative founder Sam Walton, is living proof that, much like Ronald Reagan Jr., conservatism isn’t genetic and that the apple can indeed fall far from the tree.

Case in point: the Wal-mart heir in September donated $300,000 to the liberal Priorities USA Action super PAC, according to recent financial disclosures.

And if that particular PAC name sounds familiar, it should. That’s the same group responsible for the infamous “Romney Killed my Wife” ad.

“The Sept. 10 gift stands in contrast to several other 2012 donations from Walton clan members, who have spent big in favor of conservative and Republican causes for years,” the Washington Post notes.

“An uncle and two aunts, for example, gave five- and six-figure donations to super PACs backing Republican nominee Mitt Romney and one of his GOP challengers, Jon Hunstman Jr.,” the report adds.

One of these aunts, Alice Walton, even donated $2.6 million in 2004 to a group that ran ads for then President George W. Bush.

So we’d definitely say $300K to Bill Burton’s group is a change of pace for the Walton family. But you know what? This shouldn’t come as that big of a surprise.

As the WaPo notes:

… 44-year-old Sam Walton … has long leaned left compared to the rest of his family, sitting on the board of the Environmental Defense Fund and donating $30,000 to Obama’s campaign in 2008.

Still, as the report adds, the massive contribution to Priorities USA “marks a significant increase in his involvement and will help pay for anti-Romney ads that Priorities is airing in key swing states over the final days of the campaign.”

I appreciate knowing this. The Walton heir is free to support his man with his profits, just as I am free to withhold my money from him by avoiding Walmart and Sam’s Club. Canceling my Sam’s Club membership tomorrow. What a traitor to Capitalism! I guess if many of us boycott Walmart, we can kill two birds with one stone: cutting potential Dem donation money, and cutting trade with China.

After the CEO of Costco was at the Democratic Convention touting Obama , I cut up my Costco card. I really like Costco. Now Sams Club? We don’t have BJ’s Wholesale in the Houston area. Any suggestions?

Obama talks about taxing the rich but only talk. He knows to do so Congress would have to cgange the laws. Walton Heirs are afraid Romney would back Congress up to the wall and force the issue. Remember Charlie Rangle who was a Seargent in the Army when elected and is now worth over 5 million bucks. In 2009 it was found out he owed the IRS nearly $800,000 on his foreign property and condos.Romney is rich, made $ 40 million in 2011 and gave 20 million to charity. I don’t think the man can be bought. With an executive order Obama ordered colleges to buy his book and the colleges are just putting in storage.

When you are sitting on a pile of money, the best way to protect that pile is socialism. All of your future competitors will be taxed at such a high rate, that you, and yours, will always be sitting on top. The government will take 3/4′s of their present earnings.

Yep, another popular saying is “rags to riches to rags in 3 generations” (must be the english translation) It is true though. The punks that don’t work to build a business have no work ethic. They just want the money, sports cars, drugs and women.

I have to shop at WalMart at times, because Costco is too far and too costly under Obama’s gas war on Americans. To me, Walmart’s business seems to be far better under this Muslim nightmare in the WH becaue everyone is on food stamps. I rarely see people pay for everything at once anymore. Food is divided from formula, detergent, soap, etc. Walmart is rolling in the government money right now. Believe me, there are no starving poor people here in San Antonio. They know how to swipe that Lone Star card and hold up the line. They eat very well and whip out the $100 bill in order to pay for the 3 cases of beer. Why wouldn’t Walmart owners give back to the government hand that feeds them and their mega company?

You are correct about the food stamp cards. It’s obvious when they’re being used and those of us who have to work to eat are getting a little tried of seeing their buggies piled high with the best cuts of meat, frozen dinners, pizzas, cookies, chips and candy while we are having to make do.

My solution to part of the deficit is to cut the food stamp allowance in half while, at the same time, restricting purchases to lower priced cuts of meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, flour, sugar, etc. They would still be able to eat well. They’d just have to cook. Those who are truly in need would still appreciate getting what they do. Those who are gaming the system would be the ones screaming.

This solution would also appeal to Michelle since she’s so concerned about what people eat. We have the fattest poor people in the world!
