Mean or Funny? Prank Features Screens Placed in Elevator Making It Look Like the Floor Is Falling Out

The electronics manufacturer LG wanted to show customers just how realistic their screens can be. What better way to do this than to scare the living daylights out of them — and probably create a few elevator phobias in the process– by making it look like the elevator floor was falling out from below their feet.

In a new ad “So Real it’s Scary,” LG installed its IPS monitor screens as the floor in an elevator. Then it filmed the reaction of lift riders as the “floor tiles” with full on audio seemed to break and fall down the shaft.

As they ask in the video, “How life-like is IPS? We put it to the test.” Watch the ad and consider the results for yourself:

LG touts its IPS monitor as having a life-like color with smooth color change and wide-angle viewing.

Some have questioned whether the prank to promote the IPS monitor is “cruelest ad ever?” What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

If somebody had a heart attack when they saw that, chances are they were going to have one before they got where they were going anyway. It would have been better to have a rocket or something coming up toward them.

Back in the olden days people didn’t have to play pranks to scare people because real life was all the scary they needed.

Windows 8? Hell, just upgrade to Windows 7. I can’t remember the last time I had a BSOD.

Besides, even if they were running Windows, it would’ve been an embedded version that would only do this one task (it is an ad after all).

Yeah, buy a MAC, pay to much and not be able to fix it yourself. MAC=overpriced PC. Other than the OS, they are the same thing. Know why MAC’s don’t have any virus attacks, because the user base is small. That is all, not because they are superior.

      @Silvertruth,

Monastery? No Monastery on my mountain. : )

I did get rid of the satellite and had a Fiber cable run up to the cave.

      I have noticed this: Windows 95a=bad, Windows 95c=good, Windows 98=bad, Windows 98 2nd edition=good, Windows ME=bad, Windows 2000=good, Windows XP no SP=bad, Windows XP with SP=good, Windows Vista=bad, Windows 7=good, Windows 8=?.

      See the pattern?

      @ Monk

Close, but we trench techs have a different outlook on Wondows (deliberate misspell for you Mac munchies).

W3.1 = good, W95 = bad, NT4 = horrid, 98/SE = decent, 2K = meh to bad (depends on use), ME = horrid, XP = good to w00t (depending on use and patches), CE= pain in the arse, Vista = bad, Win7 = good to w00t (depending on who you ask), 8 = ???

It usually takes two meh to bomb-out tries for Microsoft to do something wildly right, at least as a lot of techs see it. And trust me, we get to see the FAIL in all its glory as we try to fix ‘em.

At least they are a little more reasonable with server operating systems. I haven’t used a svrOS from Microsoft that I did not like, at least so far. Verdict is still out on Svr2012; we haven’t done much with it yet at my shop.

I’ve been working on computers since ’86, but there weren’t a whole lot around then. i worked on medium level 8080 processor running Xenix. I worked on large printers, ATM’s, and cash registers. When computers became more prolific, I started to work on them, self-taught. Been working on computers and laser printers since then for TRW, which became ComputerLand, which became VanStar, then finally became Inacom, who went bankrupt in 2000. I work for a State office in Ohio, now. We have been using Win XP since I started in 2001 and we are just now changing over to Win 7.

When I was a teenager and too old to trick or treat. I’d stuff my clothes with rags, put on a cheap rubber mask and wig and sit in a chair awkwardly like a stuffed dummy on the porch with a note pinned on my shirt that said “please only take one candy” with the bowl full of candy on my lap. When the stupid teenagers would grab a hand full of candy I’d reach out fast and grab them and watch them soil themselves.

This is awful! I demand the Supreme Court look into the Constitutionality of creating pranks, hoaxes, or non-elevator specific functions in a elevator. We as a people cannot make people’s blood run cold or run hot with non-specific elevator related elevator functions! This will be seen as funny and could be construed as religious propaganda or gay-hate speech in its most vile form!

I just read a poll on CNN that found that 52% of people found this disturbing and anti-gay while 29% found it funny (probably all maddening Conservative’s – Bigots!!!), while 19% had no clue what was going on and passed out during the screening (obviously soon to be Conservative!), this shows that the people have spoken out against this mean-spirited attack on homosexuals and our destruction of the Separation of Church and State clause in our Constitution (I can’t remember the specific page this clause is on our Constitution but it is there! I was told in HS and College about it!)

Tongue planted squarely in my cheek as I write this drivel :-) This was hilarious loved the vid, but yet again I am an evil Conservative :-)

If someone pulled a prank like that on me, I would likely shoot them when I got off the elevator. I think people are idiots for pulling pranks on each other. Pranks are foolish, childish and cruel. There is a sickness and cruelness about people who would disturb others in such a manner and it should be illegal, this assault upon others. It is placing someone who had an unknown heart problem in great danger.
