Palestinian Activists Storm Rami Levy Supermarket that Serves both Jews and Arabs and Call for Settlement Boycott

While more than 70 rockets fired by Palestinian militants in Gaza hit southern Israel on Wednesday, in the West Bank (known also as Judea and Samaria), Palestinian activists and their foreign supporters stormed an Israeli-owned supermarket that prides itself in providing jobs and affordable groceries to both Jews and Arabs.

Israeli and Palestinian media report that some 100 Palestinians, along with international activists from the International Solidarity Movement, staged the protest at the Rami Levy supermarket in Sha’ar Binyamin, near Ramallah. Some entered the store where they walked up and down the aisles, waved Palestinian flags, chanted slogans and called for a boycott of settlement goods, while others blocked the entrance. Israeli border police dispersed the crowd outside using stun grenades.

Arutz Sheva reports customers and workers took refuge in the store as they feared the protesters would become violent.

Abir Kopty, a political and feminist activist with the Palestinian popular committees tells Ynet that this protest is part of a series being planned. The first one occurred last week when Palestinians blocked Israeli highway 443 during rush hour. She said:

This time we chose the Rami Levy store because we want to send a message to boycott the occupation and its products. As long as the Palestinians get no justice, settlers and Israelis will not lead normal lives.

Kopty added that protesters also want to send a message to Palestinians that they should not shop at Rami Levy.

The pro-settlement Regavim organization said:

This is a provocation by Palestinians and anarchists who are trying to fan the flames in Judea and Samaria.

The protest in Rami Lavy, which employs and serves both Jews and Arabs, exposed the simple truth – that they are acting against co-existence. We ask that they take a look at what is going on in neighboring Syria which they hold so dear to their hearts.

The Palestinian Popular Struggle Coordination Committee reports that after clashing with police and soldiers (video seen below), several protesters were injured including two who were taken to hospital. They also report that two Palestinians, an American and a Polish activist were arrested.

Owner Rami Levy told Arutz Sheva that the Palestinians intended to cause a provocation with photographers present. He told the news outlet that his staff cannot stop customers from entering after they pass the security guard who like at all other Israeli supermarkets is situated at the entrance and checks for weapons and explosives.

In August 2011 at his Restoring Courage event in Jerusalem, Glenn Beck honored Rami Levy for promoting peaceful coexistence between Arabs and Jews. Levy grew up in a one-room shack in Jerusalem and, after years of hard work, expanded from his first 400-square foot stall into Israel’s fastest growing supermarket chain employing more than 3,000 at some 20 locations.

Besides providing job opportunities, Levy offers discounted and sometimes free food to the needy of all faiths. In the past, he has provided unmarked bags to his Muslim shoppers so they can avoid being harassed for visiting a Jewish-owned store.

Beck said then, “Despite strong opposition and even boycotts, Rami remains on the path of good. It takes courage to do what’s right.”

This Thanksgiving….to all those that believe Alex Jones and his NWO theories. The man in power in America occupying the big seat in the oval room would be the orchestrator in charge. Boycott your stores selling turkeys from Butterball, or any any brand with “Halal” anywhere on the package. It means it is sharia compliant, and you are bowing to their satannic gawd of oppression and murder. They blow up our military men and women with explosives remember? Let all the stores selling these birds have rotting birds to throw away. I would rather eat a littler bird than a big fat Islame supporting fowl. Screw you: Turkey raisers…I know you have to make money…But you are “sell outs” if you sell your birds to “Halal companies. Where is your conscience? The illegal occupation of the Jewish homeland by Muslim Arabs must end before peace comes. Those Arab Muslims that occupy the Jewish West Bank must go to Jordan and the Arab Muslim occupiers of Gaza must return to Egypt and only then will there be peace. Inshallah

I find it odd that so many people, most of whom profess to be Christians of one denomination or other, seem so intent on the death and destruction of an entire race of people, and of Muslims. Seriously… Re-read some of the posts here and see if the anger and hatred don’t jump right out at you from the screen. Someone kills a Muslim, then you talk about the righteousness of the death, God’s judgment, protecting Israel, war on terror, ‘murrka… Someone kills a Jew or a Christian and the seething hatred spews forth in your posts.

I just find it strange that a non-believer can remain free of hatred for other people, while you born-agains are so filled with it.

  I am so weary of those that say “Christians” should not fight…Yes, I would like to get in a shoving match with you outside of a “megachurch” I go to a little church and we hunt with guns and play football and send our young men to fight idiots with explosive vests, just so anusses like you can type your pooh.

If Rami Levy’s shop isn’t online so the world can shop there it really ought to be. There are probably plenty of American Jews and Muslims who would stand in solidarity with Mr. Levi’s goal of what this store represents.

  I just met Rami Levy face to face for the first time tonight. I was doing last minute shopping for the Sabbath. He was outside the store with the store manager at Sha’ar Binyamin. a truly humble individual. very unassuming. a truly special man. I asked him about Glenn Beck and the award he received in August of 2011. He smiled. I told him that they were talking about this incident on the Blaze. He shrugged his shoulders.

Another piece of information. There is a guarded gate at this entire industrial center called Sha’ar Binyamin. There is far more than just a Rami Levy there. The demonstration being videoed here was actually at the guarded gate which is not right in front of the supermarket. I recognize the exact spot. They must have been tossed out of the Rami Levy, and somehow the “demonstration meant to provoke” proceeded to the guarded gate. What I fail to understand is how did this many rabble-rousers get past the guarded gate in order to get close to or inside the store itself??

Yes, there is a guard at the store that greets one with a smile. But the guards at the gate check all suspicious vehicles. Listen I am there almost five times per week for one thing or another. Yes, there is a Rami Levy there, but there is also a hardware store, a fish store, a large bakery with a restaurant, a wedding hall, a garage for fixing cars, etc. The list is long.

I will just say it simply. I shop at that Rami Levy market in Sha’ar Binyamin (Gate of Benjamin), four miles north of Jerusalem, all the time. This shopping mall was prophesied to exist at this time in the famous Zecharia 14 chapter in the Bible. So when Obmanation Makes Desolate sends UN and NATO troops along with Russian troops in his 2nd term to divide Jerusalem, I am sure that this shopping mall will be a major flashpoint. ho hum

  I was there shopping tonight around 5:30, and saw nothing of the goings on from this afternoon. I had no idea that this happened. I bought 3 boxes of Telma Shefa sugar free Branflakes cereals on sale. and 4 boxes of Fould’s macaroni imported from the US. and two bottles of Carmel Selected Moscato wine, also on sale. right there at that very Rami Levy store in Sha’ar Binyamin. I have the receipt sitting right in front of me. Yet, the anarchists must have disappeared by the time I got there.

WHY IS THIS NOT A BIGGER STORY? ISRAEL–I mean–PERIOD. ? Why doesn’t the Blaze keep the unrelenting attacks against Israel FONT & CENTER? Why only an obscure Headline now & then? What happened to Glenn? He went to Israel–seemed “concerned” for their plight……didn’t he say something like “I’m a Jew (too)? I like Glenn, but he’s not the same guy he used to be. Something is different–don’t know what exact;y–but to top it off, last week or so–the Blaze had a downright STUPID “teaser/tabloid” headline/HATCHET JOB on “Christian Networks” “going to Jerusalem in particular. WELL, GLENN–BLAZE–WHO ELSE? I didn’t read (didn’t see) ANY “follow-up” piece on THAT. That was WAY off–Glenn NEEDED all of these Pastors, Organizations, for all 3 of his big events–I assure you–Glenn had MEGA-help from those same “stations” the Blaze trashed–when HE went to ISRAEL. There is no such thing and never has been a nation called “Palestine”. Nor is there such a thing as a Palestinian people, culture, currency, language, government, military…. They are all arabs and they are being used as pawns by their original nations in a propaganda war against Israel; even Arafat was an Egyptian. All of so called “palestine” belongs to Israel period and there has never been an arab nation there. The double standard that Israel is held to is ridiculous. The FACTS are that the so called Palestinians are the real terrorists and that Israel defends itself as any other sovereign nation would. Israel goes to painstaking levels to avoid civilian casualties and arabs specifically target and hide behind women and children. Israel is a thriving democracy with one of the highest standards of living in the world; Arab nations are stuck in the dark ages. On May 13, 1948 the so-called ‘palestinians’ were JORDANIANS….however, on May 14, 1948 (a mere 24 hours LATER) suddenly they were ‘palestinians?’ Give me a BREAK! Talk about an ‘invented’ peoples.

I always admire the Jews and their ability to explain something with the simplest statements.

No truer words were ever spoken regarding the little palestinians. They’re not looking for peace so holding peace talks is useless. The only thing they want is violence, so let them have it.

Palestine belongs to the children of Abraham, the chosen people and anyone going against G_D’s will is believing Al-Takeyya, the lie. In fact, the land that belongs to Israel is MUCH larger that the amount of land on which they currently live. I support the settlements and they should build and flourish everywhere with the Blessings they were given. G_D is with Yisrael Always.

  Yep! and if Israel were ever given back the lands stolen from them by the Assyrains, Romans etc they would displace a whole lot of arabs…would those arabs then become ‘palestinians too? You know they would. Would they claim the same “victimhood” we see exhibited by the “palestininans”? My guess is yes, because that’s how they operate. We always see the stories of young (12-15 yo) palestinians boys shot by Israeli troops for throwing rocks. Or the crying palestinian mother whose son strapped on a bomb vest and obliterated a cafe full of people. They tug on the heart strings of the liberals in Europe and the U.S. whose first response to everything is always based on emotion and are willing to believe anything negative about Israel. But the news in Europe and the U.S. seldom reports on the aftermath of the rocket attacks aimed at Israelis. The arabs should just be happy with what stolen property they now possess and shut the **** up.
