Police: Black Woman Set Herself on Fire & Staged Bizarre ‘KKK’ Attack

The case surrounding 20-year-old Sharmeka Moffitt turned even more bizarre on Tuesday, with police announcing that they believe the young woman set herself on fire.

Yesterday, TheBlaze initially reported that Moffitt was in critical condition after claiming that she was set ablaze in a racially-motivated attack by three men in sweatshirts. But the story has now turned from a hate crime into a scenario in which police believe that she inflicted harm upon herself.

Authorities say that evidence corroborates the notion that Moffitt fabricated the story about being attacked and burned in a New Orleans park on Sunday evening. During a press conference, Franklin Parish Sherrif Kevin Cobb told reporters that forensic clues paint a horrific tale — one in which Moffitt gravely harmed her body using a bottle of lighter fluid and a lighter. Her fingerprints appeared on both items, which were found at the scene.

“This was a disturbing case for all involved. All indications show this was a self-inflicted situation,” Cobb said.

Moffitt is currently in critical condition and purportedly went in for major surgery on Tuesday. In addition to potentially falsifying the attack itself and inflicting grave injuries  if authorities are right about their suspicions, then it was also Moffitt who wrote “KKK” on the hood of her car.

The woman’s family — members of which were initially supportive of her story — has released a statement about the most recent developments. It reads:

“Our family is devastated to learn the circumstances surrounding our daughter’s injuries. While this was not the resolution we had expected, it is a resolution, and we appreciate the thorough investigation by the local and state police as well as federal agencies.

We are sincerely sorry for any problems this may have caused and wish to express our appreciation for the outpouring of love, prayers and support we have received from friends, acquaintances, church organizations and government officials.

Over the coming days and weeks, our focus will be on Sharmeka and her recovery. We ask that you continue to pray for her and for our family, and that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Police Chief Lester Martin added that the situation is “tragic” and encouraged the community to still offer support and prayers for the woman’s family.

      Yesterday I read a few black blog spots and it was unbelievable. Altough there were some calling for cooler heads and asking people to wait on all the facts most were basically ready to get it on with a race war.

      There hasn’t been anything as overtly hateful and racist as this alleged crime against minorities and gays in our country since the 70s. People keep fabricating them to stir the pot and then are found to be frauds. But there are some who will repeat this story as fact until the day they die, and never hear or believe the truth.

      The majority of hate crimes seem to come FROM those who claim to be “oppressed” or the victims of prejudice. It is a fantasy they live in, fueled by Progressives and Liberal mythos that we are still living in the last century.

      This is a dangerous game being played by some and many in the media. Our “post racial President” has done absolutely nothing but make matters worse . A powder keg is ready to explode in this country and once it begins the genie can’t be put back in the bottle. I look for riots after Romney wins the election by blacks in the cities ,I just hope it doesn’t spiral out of control . The leftwing media has blacks so misinformed and spun up that it could be the big one.

      When will black people get it that discrimination works the other way around the white people have a lack of pigmentation therefore being a deficit while black people have excess pigmentation.       and the likes, I see it this way….

      For decades now, we ‘whities’ should just

      matters is Blacks are given “equal” treatment.
      However, in many cases, they were given ‘preferential’

    What is wrong with the progressive mind that says things like this are a good thing? We see this all the time with the Gays and Minority communities staging “attacks” and then reporting falsely of the attack. When they get caught it is always to “start the conversation”. WTH?! A conservative does this and they are kicked out of most conservative organizations that I know of and the police lower the boom on them.       Me too. I was waiting for it and here it is. This girl didn’t even have the sense to know that he KKK has long since gone stealthy. No more sheets for the most part or burning crosses.     White people need to start standing up for themselves and stop being the dumbest, most cowardly people on the planet. This woman committed a hate crime against an entire race of people. Her actions could have sparked race riots resulting in the murders of innocent white people. Had she been smart enough to wear gloves and a couple of white men just happened to be exercising in the same park, they could have been arrested and tried as the perpetrators. Even though this moron was caught, her intentions to inflict emotional, financial, and bodily harm on anyone who is considered “white” are clear, which makes this a hate crime of a racist nature.
    Everyone needs to call the local authorities and demand that this crime be treated for what it is. I don’t care if she is “suffering”. If a white guy carrying a torch intended to set someone ablaze and he accidentally set himself on fire, he would still be charged accordingly (as an intended hate crime). She needs to suffer the same legal ramifications, to set the example for both herself and for the rest of society.

When you have millions of govt workers and dozens of federal law enforcement agencies looking out for and protecting the black man and woman and ZERO govt employees and agencies looking out for white people you tend to be a little gun shy.       I have the right to express myself (or I thought I had it), so no one can tell me to tolerate or “like” other race or other people.
      Look, I strongly dislike American black people for what they do to our country. NOTE: I said American blacks. Seems to me (from my experience and interactions) that black people from other parts of the world are much more friendly and likable and do not have that attitude of blacks in America.
      I also strongly dislike some white people.
      I hate muslims because I have personal history with them. They are the reason my family and I had to leave our home and run away. Otherwise we would be murdered, as many of my people were.
      Thanks to USA for taking us in.

    And yet that poor 12 year old white girl just riding her bicycle to her friends house is murdered by two black teenage brothers for her bike and were is it on MSNBC, CNN….etc. Fox was PC correct and at least mentioned police were guarding the house the boy’s lived in due to fear of a racial attack. If this had been reversed Al and Jesse would be on a plane this morning. Oh and guess what…the white neighborhood and community came together in prayer and didn’t torch and loot the town…..hmmmm…go figure. But its the white people that are racist. It will probably come out that these two boys were just a product of their environment, no father, poor mother and just didn’t have a chance and they just lashed out…and what business did that poor girl have riding her bike down the street anyway…who did she think she was….she was just looking for trouble. Thank God the boys mother had the character and bravery to turn her boys in…she will probably be vilified by the black community.

      Black neighborhood are what blacks make them. Everyones neighborhood are what the people there make it for that matter. Liberals keep making excuses about economic inequality well for every poor black in our country there are 3 poor whites…you don’t see them offing each other in record numbers.
      You don’t see the businesses in those areas having to close at sundown and pull down cages to keep people out.
      More in line with this story whites are 20 times more likely to be murdered by blacks than blacks murdered by whites. And blacks are 90 times more likely to be murdered by blacks than murdered by whites. All of this has snowball since the early 60′s prior to that things were more balanced…

      That is because white people will sit on their rears, too afraid to point out the obvious because someone will call them a nasty name. I am a Yankee, born well after the 60′s. I am not responsible for what the Southern democrats did prior to the Civil Rights movement. In fact, the only reason the Civil Rights movement occurred is because good white people revolted with blacks against an overbearing government. The only reason the Civil War occurred is because white people revolted against an overbearing government. MY heritage is freedom, yet I am labeled a “racist oppressor” simply because of my race.

      Most Americans, including many southerners, had nothing to do with the injustices of the past, had no family involvement, and no ability to do anything about it and yet somehow we, as a people, have allowed an entire race to bear the guilt, shame, and blame for what a few people did in this country and what is common practice throughout the world and known history. We have allowed our Constitutional rights to the free expression of our opinions to be squelched out of fear of being called a nasty name. Maybe we should stop being cowards and start standing up for ourselves and our neighbors.

    Did anybody notice that in the prepared statement that her family released she thanked everybody but the Pilgrims for rushing federal SWAT teams with helicopter gunship support to investigate this “hate” crime, but offered not a single apology to all of the white people she and her ilk painted as racist monsters? Anybody else notice that? Now that is pathetic, but I expected nothing less.

      Thanks for the laugh, unfortunately it’s still sad that people will go to these extremes to bring attention to their cause, Sharmeka has a mental illness and needs help and prayers. To me situation like these are a result of preaching and teaching hatred

    Yesterday I like many others expressed much doubt on this story and voila, whaddaya know, nail on the head. TODAY the left has made racism profitable and as long as it is they’ll be screaming to the mountaintops if they can get a lotto like payout for being ‘racially attacked’ and this is why “hate crimes’ are BULLSPIT. It provides incentive for people to make up stories like this.

    In fact we ‘racists’ were calling THIS A TAWANA BRAWLEY FROM THE SECOND WE SAW IT. BOOYAH. Glad she got burned and quickly.

      I knew it when I read the headline yesterday too. I wonder how much money it took to get her to set herself on fire and claim it was the KKK. Don’t forget all the stories about homosexuals that have faked attacks on themselves as well. Some people are just simply sick in the head.

      Grandma, I keep thinking at how someone could torture themselves like that, and wonder what was so horrible in her life that this is what she chose. Seems to me that this is a very unbalanced young woman. I can’t find it in my heart to hate her, I just pity her. She has punished herself more than anything that can be done legally.

      I learned this way back in 1994. Thank you Mr. Savage for mapping out the traps of liberalism so I wouldn’t fall in them during college! And Rush for being my morning alarm clock with his TV show in middle/high school! They were far superior educators than most of the unionized teachers I had growing up.
